Yeah, I kinda already knew I was screwed, just was in denial I guess. I appreciate your response more than you possibly know, thanks for taking the time to write all this out. And no, talking about this on Steam would be awesome, thanks for offering that, I'll PM you my account link. As for the stuff I use I was wrong about the brand on the cleanser:

Cleanser: Neutrogena Oil-Free Acne Stress Control Power Cream Wash

Toner: Green Stridex

Moisturizer: CVS Pharmacy Moisturizing Cream

And these are all links to the exact products I use so you can refer to the ingredients on these. Thank you again so much for the help, I'll be on Steam a bit later and hopefully I'll catch you.

Basically everything has been a skincare fail for me lately.

  • Fresh Black Tea Essence. Fail. I didn't see any results at all.
  • Stridex green box. Major fail. I broke out all over and got an actual cyst, which has never happened before. This is at the 0.5% concentration so I can only imagine how bad red box would be.
  • Konjac sponge. Not so much a fail, just had to stop using it after I wrecked my face with Stridex.
  • Garnier Micellar Foaming Face Wash. Too drying.

    Some wins:

  • CosRX 96 Snail Mucin. SUPER WIN. It's so hydrating!
  • Radha Beauty rosehip oil. My friend let me try this and it's amazing! I have learned after 27 years I have combo skin, not oily, not (strictly speaking) dehydrated, so I'm quadrupling down on moisturizing.

My goal is to go 30 days without introducing anything new into my routine, which is hard as I still have lots of little closed comedones and the occasional hormonal zit I want to zap with something harsh. But literally every acid I've ever tried (outside of glycolic, which I stupidly didn't think was working well enough so I quit using it, and azelaic, which I've yet to try) has devastated my face. After 30 days I may try glycolic again or order a low concentration azelaic. I quit r/skincareaddiction. It was too much.

For me:

  • I always save the crazy moisturising for overnight as it messes up my foundation. Anyone else find this? I lather it on and put vaseline over the really dry areas.
  • I also exfoliate dead skin away GENTLY in the mornings with Stridex SENSITIVE exfoliating pads
  • No brushes! So you don't cause micro exfoliation (Like this Goss Tutorial, which saved my life)

You need two things. Accutane (low dose) and Salicylic Acid pads (0.5% only). https://www.amazon.com/STRIDEX-PADS-SENSITIVE-SKIN-55/dp/B000NURPIW

You have used way too many products and many of them are harsh. Try the SA first and if it didn't work, continue to use it but try to get accutane as well - insist on it when you see your dermatologist.

Wash your face with warm (not hot) water and a gentle non-drying cleanser morning and night. Immediately after dabbing your face dry with a clean town, apply Salicylic Acid to every part of your face. Remember to only use the 0.5% version. Salicylic acid is extremely effective against oily skin but takes a while to work, but it is far less irritating than benzoyl peroxide. Not only that but Salicylic Acid thins sebum and breaks up keratin. It takes a while but it does work. Leave this treatment on and it'll absorb into your skin and don't wash your face until evening or before bed - when you then reapply it and leave it on. The aloe vera in it will calm your skin and help recovery as well as preventing irritation and therefore making it less likely to kick out more oil in response.

How's your diet? Consider making some changes there. Contrary to what some people believe, diet does indeed play a huge role in skin condition and can have a huge effect on oil production.

I have sensitive, slightly oily skin, and I love the Stridex wipes for sensitive skin (with aloe!), and Cereph moisturizing cream for moisturizing. I cleanse, exfoliate, and moisturize twice a day: one first thing in the morning, and once before bed (or when I get home and I wanna take off my makeup before I forget)
