Generally your going to want two layers. An outer layer of a light windbreaker/water resistant shell. To me these always seem to have that bit of a plasticy technical fabric feel to them. Under that I recommend a lightweight down coat. The packable down ones are really nice for those chilly mornings but arent huge and bulky like a full winter coat. It's it's just a light breeze and dry, just the down jacket does good for me. I only add the outer shell if it's really windy or misting/light rain.
