I've been studying motivation and working into my practice for the last 7 years. If you really want to address motivation you have to understand how motivation works in humans. Most SLPs take an intuitive approach to motivation, which is unfortunate because many of the things that we think improve motivation actually hinder it. It's too complex of a topic to address here. This book is one of the most clinician-friendly discussions on the topic (although it focuses on kids, the concepts are applicable to adults also)
