Alien: Out of the Shadows is a full-cast dramatization that takes place between Alien and Aliens, and feels like really well-done fan fiction. Laurel Lefkow sounds exactly like Sigourney. It's got some contrivances, but it's fun.

Bird Box by Josh Malerman, narrated by Cassandra Campbell is about a young mother trying to survive in a world where something outside will make you suicidal and homicidal if you see it. The characters spend much of the story blindfolded. Bird Box does a great job with tension, but the explanation and resolution are somewhat thin. Cassandra Campbell's narration is one of the best I've ever heard. It’s a great book, but don’t expect a ton of answers.

The Dinosaur Four by Geoff Jones (me), narrated by Nick Podehl, is a time-travel dinosaur thriller about ten everyday strangers in a cafe that gets sent back in time.

The Fireman by Joe Hill, narrated by Kate Mulgrew is about an apocalypse where people burst into flame.

The Girl with All the Gifts by M.R. Carey, narrated by Finty Williams is a take on the zombie apocalypse that focuses on a relationship between teacher and student.

Horns by Joe Hill, Narrated by Fred Berman, is about a guy who basically becomes the devil.

Infected by Scott Sigler, narrated by Scott Sigler is about an alien disease that drives people mad. Lots of body horror.

JAWS by Peter Benchley, narrated by Erik Steele, is about a New England fishing trip.

Jurassic Park by Michael Crichton, narrated by Scott Brick, is about a lizard zoo that loses power.

Misery by Stephen King, narrated by Lindsay Crouse, is one of his scariest books. It's about a writer who is injured in a car accident and "rescued" by his number one fan, who holds him hostage. The sense of fear and helplessness is overwhelming.

Mountain Man by Keith C. Blackmore, narrated by R. C. Bray is about a loner who drinks his way through the zombie apocalypse. There is a short story prequel called The Hospital you can try out for free.

N0S4A2 by Joe Hill, read by Kate Mulgrew, is about "collector" of souls who picks the wrong kid to abduct. Mulgew's narration is terrific.

Origin by J. A. Konrath, narrated by Luke Daniels. Scientists dig up the devil. It's a bit pulpy, but it's fun.

Pines (+ two sequels) by Blake Crouch, narrated by Paul Michael Garcia, is about a secret service agent investigating a small town where everything seems too good to be true. It feels like a mixture of The Twilight Zone, The Fugitive, and Twin Peaks.

The Road by Cormac McCarthy, narrated by Tom Stechschulte is a very bleak book about a father and son trying to survive in an apocalyptic wasteland. McCarthy's prose is very stream-of-consciousness, and imo works better as an audibook than a standard book.

Run, also by Blake Crouch, narrated by Phil Gigante, is rougher around the edges than Pines, but it's also darker and grittier.

World War Z by Max Brooks is an oral history of the zombie apocalypse, with narration by damn near everyone.
