Edit: adding a few things from the wormhole I fell into after seeing this movie for anyone interested. Stasiland is an amazing account of life under the Stasi.

I can't find it at the moment but there is a video of the fall of the Berlin Wall where people are waiting for their chance to cross over into West Germany. Thousands of people. It's incredible.
