There are dozens of books about the few women featured in the Bible (and by few, I mean there are about 50 notables in all 66 books). Here are just a few. The thing is, most of these characters are known for one or two actions (Ruth's loyalty to her mother-in-law, Esther's appeal to the king of Persia) and more often than not warrant a few verses each.
It's not wonder, then, that I got my personal heroines from fiction. Aerin from Robin McKinley's The Hero and the Crown is a better role model than the best that the Bible offers, since she was more moral, more dedicated, risked more, and gained power and precedence through her own efforts.
