Yeah definitely. To expand upon what I was saying is basically powers are transferred via brands. For example, a king could pay one of their vassals for their metabolism and have his staff take care of them for the rest of their life. By the end of one of the books this hero had so many of his servants attributes branded onto him (in order to match the power of his rival) that he was doomed to live in a standstill world. Essentially by the time a normal person took a step 10 years would have passed, so he basicallly sacrificed himself. Not sure if you cared, but in the story once the receiver of the power dies, the giver received their attribute back. It was a very cool fantasy concept.

Edit: I believe this is it: http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B00FO74WIK/ref=mp_s_a_1_1?qid=1420265565&sr=8-1&pi=AC_SX110_SY165_QL70
