oystagoymp's advice is really worth listening to. I can vouch for keeping a journal. I bought the Self-Esteem Journal and it's really helped.

I'm still in what I'd call the 'first stage' where one identifies the reasons and events that caused the low self-esteem. So, for example, if you didn't like your ears or something, and you thought about why you didn't like them, you might have memories back to when you were young and someone teased you about it. It's nice because it's a way of realising what happened, and a way of externalising the feelings, so that you don't feel like you are to blame for how you feel.

So yeah, not really helpful generic advice, but this is what's working for me at the minute so I wanted to share it with you, in the hope it may possibly help. There's no quick fix to fix self-esteem that has been damaged for many years. It'll take time and effort but can be possible. I do suggest seeking help from self-help books, and then therapy if the feelings persist after trying to improve your confidence for a while. There may be some deep-rooted reasons for why your confidence is low, that therapy might help dig out. As you said you're still in education, maybe you could contact a counsellor that works within the establishment - they'd be happy to help.
