This is coming from a dog groomer. Spend a few bucks and get a tick spoon. It's one of the easiest little tools to use. While you can get them off with tweezers or hemostats, I've found tick spoons to be the quickest and easiest thing to get used to.

As far as the head, it's most likely not still inside your chest. The human body rejects the head and will push it out on its own. Granted, the head being inside can cause infection and all sorts of fun things like that.
