A blanket on the wall would help a lot, especially if you splurge a little and get one specifically for sound dampening.
I personally use one of these. If you have room and don't mind talking into a foam box this thing is amazing. It isolates your mic from ambient noise (like your roommate) plus it'll eliminate audio reflections which will improve the quality of your recordings.

Also if his voice coming through on your recordings is the only real issue you may be able to eliminate it using a noise gate in post production which is free.
