this is in a dedicated room. Its my room, not a dual purpose room. I work from home 1-3 days a week dependenton the week. I also spend innumerable hours here after work, doing my own stuff. I've had this set up for three years now and still enjoy it as much now as when I first got the room set up.
edit: walls look purple from teh lights on my reef tank in my office. It's a small space (9x13) and is in my basement, thus unfortunately, no windows. I needed to have some source of light in the room that wasn't from a desk lamp. So, naturally, I went with a fish tank.

Its ugly but durable.
I put a piece of a 2x4 on the desk as well to provide a little extra height.
This dual monitor stand. Solid and fully adjustable. When I bought this a couple of years ago, most of the higher rated ones were in the $2-300 range, and I was hesitant to go with the cheaper, no-name brand with fewer, though still solid ratings. I have no regrets.
DESK DETAILS
Off the Top of my Head:
I use this one for 2 x 24" monitors. It's pretty cheap, it's very adjustable and it works great. It sure opens up a lot of desk space. They also make one for 4 monitors.
http://www.amazon.com/Dual-Monitor-Stand-clamp-monitors/dp/B002R9HQLI/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1302887570&sr=8-2
EDIT: If you're going to buy new monitors, make sure all the buttons are on the front if you're going to put the monitors tight together.
I think your best bet is to get a monitor stand that swivels along with any nicely specced monitor with VESA mounting. You can get 24" monitors at 1920x1080 and a LED backlight for around $170 if you shop around.
You need to get a stand that rotates..
If you want a dual monitor setup you might want this and maybe get 22" monitors to save some money.
Of course these are just suggestions and I'm sure with some compromise and shopping you can easily keep it between $180-$200.
Here's a link to Amazon. I ordered mine from there. :)

While this might be better suited in /r/AskBattlestations/ I'd suggest a corner desk. People around here [myself included] have a strong affection for Ikea desks, especially the build-a-desk system. While it can get pricey, it makes getting your perfect desk incredibly easy.
If you don't get a glass top, then you might also want to consider a dual monitor mount to get back some extra desk space. you can find them pretty easily on Amazon and the like, but I've had good experiences with this one.
You also might want to get wall hangers for your instruments, it'll simultaneously free up floor space and get some personality on those walls. Just a thought.
This is the mount he has. I got the same mount over summer, and so far the thing is wonderful. Only downside is that you cannot individually adjust monitor height, but I enjoy my two monitors at slightly different heights.
Not trying to hijack at all, but I just went through all the research and ended up getting the Tyke http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B002R9HQLI?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_detailpage_o01_s00
I think it is superior as it has dual screws at the base and also you can take them off and just bolt the thing right do your desk if you want, and it was 39.99 shipped. I have two 22 inch monitors on it and it works great.
I’m not OP poster but it looks like the same one I have. This one: Dual LCD Monitor Stand desk clamp holds up to 24-Inch lcd monitors https://www.amazon.com/dp/B002R9HQLI/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_fAiZzbPVW414Y
I can vouch for it. Sturdy and solid.

Monitor Mounts- 10/10
I believe this is the one everyone recommends:
http://www.amazon.com/Dual-Monitor-Stand-clamp-monitors/dp/tags-on-product/B002R9HQLI
Save some of your money and get an ever better one: Tyke Supply Dual LCD Monitor Stand.
I actually had that Mount-It! stand that was mentioned above, and my monitors would sag after a while. Overall, it wasn't all that great. The Tyke, however, is one of those gem products that is cheap, and very well made (except for the crappy cable clips, but I guess you gotta cut somewhere). No monitor sag at all. And it comes better packed than most expensive things I've ordered too (like REALLY well packed).
Since I'm in Canada I bought this one. But if you're in US this one is pretty similar & lots of people on this subreddit seem to have it.
http://amzn.com/B002R9HQLI
https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B002R9HQLI/ref=mp_s_a_1_35?ie=UTF8&qid=1494238887&sr=8-35&pi=AC_SX236_SY340_QL65&keywords=monitor+stand+dual&dpPl=1&dpID=31RqXT0UIoL&ref=plSrch
Computer desks/tables can get real expensive if you need more space especially if you're using dual monitors. You should just go to IKEA and look at their table tops they have a pretty huge selection and you can just buy the legs separately there. That's what I did and then I got the tyke dual LCD clamp.
http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B002R9HQLI?pc_redir=1412570916&robot_redir=1
Its not super fancy but it wasn't that expensive. I just went to IKEA and got a big rectangular slab of wood in black, some legs and that's it. Its nice and simple looking.
Edit: http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/10251352/
It's this:
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B002R9HQLI/ref=oh_aui_search_detailpage?ie=UTF8&psc=1
I picked up apparently the exact same thing from Amazon for $47 last year. I ended up using it at work for 20" and 21" monitors. Pretty solid, but the tilt was a bit loose on mine. Ended up just living with it, but if I cared enough it could probably be tightened with the appropriate sized hex wrench.
If you often rotate your monitor vertically, I don't think it would be a good buy, but otherwise it's exactly what I was looking for.
If you bend the arms, you can, but it bring the monitor a little bit too close to me. You can see how it's done here
I got this stand
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B002R9HQLI/ref=oh_details_o03_s03_i00?ie=UTF8&psc=1monitor
to hold 2 24 inch dell monitors and affixed it to the back part of one of the ikea desks that you kinda build from different top and legs. It seems to be holding up just fine so far, have had it like that for one month now.
I did something similar, but used vesa mount laptop holders as shelves. I then used the arm sections from 2 of these to get the length I needed to make it around my ultrawide. The monitor is on its own separate single arm. Has a little shake if you smack the desk hard, but having LSR308's floating in your face is pretty sweet.
I'm using Tyke Supply Dual LCD Monitor Stand. It's solid quality and I got it for 50 USD so I'm happy about it. Also, thank you!
Non-mobile: http://www.amazon.com/dp/B002R9HQLI/ref=mp_s_a_1_2?qid=1426271875&sr=8-2&keywords=Vesa+dual&pi=AC_SX200_QL40
^That's ^why ^I'm ^here, ^I ^don't ^judge ^you. ^PM ^/u/xl0 ^if ^I'm ^causing ^any ^trouble. ^WUT?
I originally purchased this dual-monitor stand which supports screens up to 24" and rotates easily. A few months later I added a third screen with a single-monitor variation of the dual stand. I usually work in portrait but sometimes I'll pull the middle screen forward and rotate it for videos/games (when I don't feel like using Eyefinity).
If you don't mind having separate stands then I highly recommend these, the quality is excellent.
This one
Just a tad small for the 32 haha
I have something similar to that, and while it works, it causes the center of my desk to flex. I had to get rid of it.
You may be able to find something cheaper. that seems a bit overpriced.
heres what i had. http://www.amazon.com/Triple-LCD-Monitor-Stand-Monitors/dp/B0023ED22Y/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1346890313&sr=8-1&keywords=triple+lcd+monitor+stand
dual LCD version if you insist on this type of clamp mount.

You wouldnt happen to stock Monitor mounts like this one would you? http://www.amazon.com/Dual-Monitor-Stand-clamp-monitors/dp/B002R9HQLI
been thinking of buying that for my workstation. If so Id like to buy local as Im sure shipping is pretty bad on something that size (also, yay local stores).
http://www.amazon.com/Tyke-Supply-Dual-Monitor-Stand/dp/B002R9HQLI
This one from amazon. Great price, awesome product!
I know you said you wanted to build, but this is only 40 bucks and is fantastic. I have a 24" and a 19" attached to this, it's then clamped to an Ikea build your own desk, can't recall model though.

I like the idea but not the cost. I applaud the execution and I am totally a fan of DIY, however I just ordered this

Actaully I have one of these: Geek Desk and I use this:monitor mount
http://www.amazon.com/Tyke-Supply-Dual-Monitor-Stand/dp/B002R9HQLI/ref=sr_1_1?s=pc&ie=UTF8&qid=1421891478&sr=1-1&keywords=tyke+supply
Had one for years (still do tho it's not worth to sell and ship)
Excellent build. Best of luck on monitors. Consider getting two, for sure. That way you can play eve and do work, facebook, gmail, reddit at the same time, more efficiently, and without alt tabbing every 2 seconds.
Also get a dual monitor desk mount it creates a ton of desk space for paperwork's sake.
Way cool project!
I was thinking that if you still have money to spend of this project, some sort of monitor mounting system might help the overall aesthetic, then you wouldn't have to worry about the screw heads messing up the levelness of the monitors slightly either, and you could remove the bases.
Something like this x2 might work and look very nice. I found a pair of something similar called a space arm on ebay for under 80$ for a pair.
The make ones like this too, but i dont think those look quite as nifty, and wouldnt work as well for 27"ers.
PS: i love that you decided to tie some wood in with the legs and speakers, makes it look more inviting and less monolithic.
Yes, there are mounts that mount directly to the desk.
https://www.amazon.com/Monitor-Stand-clamp-24-Inch-monitors/dp/B002R9HQLI
Something like that just clamps to the desk, but I didn't check to see if it is compatible with your just just so you know what they kind of look like.
Probably this one. There are a bunch of brands that use the same basic design.
It's all manual adjustment with a hex wrench, but it's very sturdy and cheap.
Recently I saw a related thread in /r/battlestations.
For me is all about comfort, nevertheless to say that invest in your equipment you will use 8 hours a day, 5 days a week pays off.
The basics are:
Go for the wireless stuff. Wireless keyboard, mouse, speakers, headset and printer.
You should get something like this :)
http://www.amazon.com/Dual-Monitor-Stand-clamp-monitors/dp/B002R9HQLI/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1331039190&sr=8-1
we all have the same mount. lol
You dont wont to be cranking your neck upwards while using your computer. You want to be looking slightly downwards.
I would personally recomend getting an arm to attach both of your monitors to. This will free up a bit of space and you will be able to use the desk under the monitors without their stands getting in the way which is nice. Something like this:: https://www.amazon.com/Monitor-Stand-clamp-24-Inch-monitors/dp/B002R9HQLI
(Shop around for yourself for prices)
Also, Id consider putting your PC tower on the floor. Thats by far the biggest thing you can do to open up space. If you have carpet, buy a cheap plastic mat or simply put textbooks under the tower and it wont suck up dust.
I personally put my tower on the ground and now my table/desk feels like a legitimate workspace. Ive done a lot of electronics projects since freeing the space up.
Dual LCD Mount
2 of these - they were a bit cheaper when i bought them
and this stand
I have one of these: http://www.amazon.com/Dual-Monitor-Stand-clamp-monitors/dp/B002R9HQLI/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1319067618&sr=8-2
way cheaper than the Ergotron stuff. Maybe that's also available in the UK
Here is the one I have currently: http://www.amazon.com/Tyke-Supply-Dual-Monitor-Stand/dp/B002R9HQLI/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1396376898&sr=8-2&keywords=monitor+mounts
There are a bunch more on amazon that are height adjustable.
Prepare to have your mind blown...

I got a desk mounted dual arm VESA mount for my 27"s for $45 on Amazon. There are clamp and stand varieties, I prefer the clamp.
Found it: http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B002R9HQLI/ref=mp_s_a_1_2?qid=1426271875&sr=8-2&keywords=Vesa+dual&pi=AC_SX200_QL40
Just a suggestion for those two monitors. Check out http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B002R9HQLI/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o06_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
I bought one of these a while ago and it freed up the space where the stand usually is for the monitor. Sounds kind of silly, but I really enjoy the space underneath the monitors now.
I have it clamped on my desk. It used to be on that black "shelf" that the Slave 1 is on right now
I just ordered a mount that looks like the same thing (s)he has.
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B002R9HQLI/
If you wanted to free some desk space, you could try monitor arms (if your monitors are capable of this, some lack the holes on the back to screw onto the arms). A single arm for either or both monitors or a double arm mount for the two. I have one of these supporting 2 24" monitors and it works lovely. Very stable and the space of 2 of the bases freed.
I've had this one for a couple of years now and it's been great for the price. Using it with an IKEA table.
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B002R9HQLI
Take a look at http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B002R9HQLI/ref=mp_s_a_1_4?qid=1453855990&sr=8-4&pi=AC_SX118_SY170_QL70&keywords=dual+monitor+mount&dpPl=1&dpID=41oKJHVotHL&ref=plSrch it has worked great for me.
I bought this one ~4 years ago:
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B001MS70Z2
Put on monitor arms for 2 monitors:
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B002R9HQLI
and have been happily using it since. I also have a tall bar stool to sit down when tired.
Thanks for the link - been looking for something like this for work. For anyone else looking to buy, shipping was cheaper for me directly from the website ($12) than through Amazon ($16).
I have a similar mount that I've used at home for a couple of years. Very, very sturdy, but lacking in in the cable management department. Hopefully this one will be better.
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B002R9HQLI/ref=oh_details_o04_s00_i00
The single screw latch seems not enough to hold two monitors without some wobble here-and-there and the plastic knob looks a bit weak. Does anyone have actual experience with this? I own a Tyke stand that is built with 2 latches and all-steel but I'm looking to buy one for my wife. Not sure I want to save $7 on this.
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B002R9HQLI/ref=oh_details_o00_s00_i00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
Since I had no desk lip to mount it to I had to reverse the screws to drive into the desk and bolt the bottom of the mount into a 2X4 I had bolted into my wall.
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B002R9HQLI/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
I use a dual mount. It has all the adjustments I need and I only have one part secured to my desk. The only real downside I see to using two singles is that you are going to have to move them to get the monitors closer or further apart. My dual mount allows me to make these adjustments on the fly without moving the part that bolts to the desk.
Get one of these. Then you can do whatever you want and get a bunch of desk surface back in the bargain.

i got this one about 6 months ago does what its suppose to and have had no issues with it
Yes, they both have VESA mounts. I picked up [this monitor stand] (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B002R9HQLI/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1) when I bought the second monitor. It's a world of difference when you have multiple monitors and limited desk space.
The monitor arms are these, and they are amazing for a dual monitor setup. Nice equal free range movement for each monitor, and they are very sturdy too. My monitors are a bit heavy (both touchscreens), and I've had the stand for almost 2 years of constant movement and virtually no sagging.
Anyone else have a dual monitor setup?
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B002R9HQLI/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
I picked this up and I'm finding that one arm is slightly taller on the other side. For the price I probably can't complain but is there a guide for adjusting similar monitor stands?
How do I determine what monitor to get? I know I want dual 21-24inch 60 hertz and 1080p. I'll be powering them with a r9 280 and will be used for gaming. They also will be mounted by something like this mount
I'm hoping to get both for under or close to 320usd
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B002R9HQLI/ref=oh_o01_s00_i00_details
zero complaints, works great, very sturdy, only slightly more expensive than building it yourself, and WAY less expensive than some of the alternatives on the market
I'm using This I would definitely recommend it, as long as your desk is compatible. It's rock solid, once you get everything on and tightened down, you have the option to either lock it up so nothing can move or leave a little flexibility to swivel them around.
Here you go - stand is VESA compliant and very well built. I'm thinking of getting another one to hookup smaller flanking monitors for me raspberry pi projects.
Link: http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B002R9HQLI
Also the description says it holds 2, 24" monitors but it easily holds 2, 27" screens.
This would be helpful.
Ill check that out.
Would something like this be good? Dual-monitor desk clamp
I mean, its $45 bucks and has great reviews!
I'm guessing that's a no on the graphics card?
The mount is
http://www.amazon.com/Dual-Monitor-Stand-clamp-monitors/dp/B002R9HQLI/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1375575296&sr=8-1&keywords=dual+monitor+stand
Just make sure you don't buy something insanely cheap. I have a $40 dual-monitor mount that works absolutely great:
https://www.amazon.com/Monitor-Stand-clamp-24-Inch-monitors/dp/B002R9HQLI
If you want to spend hundreds of dollars, you can get a mount with stainless steel joints and stuff so it looks like it came off the space shuttle, but you're never going to see it because it's behind your monitors.
The big thing to make sure about is that the C-clamp that holds the mount will fit onto your desk where you want it to. The one I linked needs about a 4" x 4" flat area on the desktop and a thin piece of desk to clamp to, otherwise you have to bolt it onto the desk.
Got mine HERE
its pretty sturdy. Only con is that the arms aren't adjustable separately so I cant have the bottom of my monitors level like I would prefer, but for $46 shipped you cant beat it
Pretty nice. For more desk space consider one of these.
http://www.amazon.com/Tyke-Supply-Dual-Monitor-Stand/dp/B002R9HQLI (though of course make sure to find one compatible with your monitor type/size)
I'm not exactly sure how monitor mounts work with glass desks though, could be some risks. Wall mounting would also clear up space if that's an option for you.
Can I wask what audio interface/mic combo you have there?
Lol it's one of these monitor arms. They are great because you don't lose all the desk space for your mugs :)
Are you looking for a VESA mount for all three? or do you already have your current two monitors on a mount, and are looking for a single monitor mount?
Are you looking to have all three in a linear fashion?
or have them in a semi-quad fashion like this mount?
I have a four monitor setup (1 - 23"; 1 - 24"; 2 - 27" ; all linear) and I have two of this.
Really like these mounts, pretty solid and sturdy.

I have this mount. I have had no issues with it. I am not sure if it will work for your monitor but if you want new ones you can check here one of my friends has this and has nothing but goos things to say about it.
Hey! I have the same monitor layout and I use one of these bad boys. Love the stand and it's on mega sale!
I'm fairly sure that it's this one
Can you adjust them much? I'm looking at doing a similar setup. I was going to buy the Tyke stand, but what you have going on looks real good
Very similar to http://www.amazon.com/Tyke-Supply-Dual-Monitor-Stand/dp/B002R9HQLI
Bought mine a few years ago, not from Amazon, and it was really expensive then. 150+ euro
https://www.amazon.com/Monitor-Stand-clamp-24-Inch-monitors/dp/B002R9HQLI these are a lifesaver
This mount was actually in another thread from today.
Amazon Dual Monitor Tyke Mount
Just make sure both of your monitors can actually use a mount!
If you already have the motherboard you may as well keep it. The difference between the 6600k and 6500 isn't very significant in games. I put the 1070 in as it is very capable at 1440p in case you wanted to upgrade plus I'm not sure how VR is going to advance. It is very possible that games will get more intensive and end up going beyond the 970/290 minimum spec, but we won't know for sure until it happens. The monitor recommendation is the Asus VE247H and this stand.
http://www.amazon.com/Tyke-Supply-Dual-Monitor-Stand/dp/B002R9HQLI?ie=UTF8&psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_detailpage_o01_s01
The monitor arm thing? Its something like this:
http://www.amazon.com/Dual-Monitor-Stand-clamp-monitors/dp/B002R9HQLI/ref=sr_1_4?ie=UTF8&qid=1312157900&sr=8-4
I have the Ikea Galant with these dual monitor stands and it's great.
And rig something up so that you aren't looking down/straining your neck. Maybe prop it up on a stack of books and buy a mouse/keyboard.
I switch from two monitors sitting on my desk to a dual monitor stand last month, and I couldn't be happier. It definitely helps ease the strain on my neck
Im getting a dual monitor stand.
How would you guys layout my desk to get the most estate as possible and maintain an ergonomic posture?
I think Imight move the monitors over to the right and place the printer in to the corner.
I plan on buying a second 23" monitor, along with this stand, but I feel like it needs something more.. Not sure what, though.
As long as they're monitors with VESA mounting holes on them, get one of these.
Quite nicely.
If the mount is anything like my old mount was, I had to use thin steel cables to hold it up on the ends. It sucked but worked.

I don't really know how to describe how I did it. I'll try lol.
I hooked a steel cable to the end of one arm, and up to the top post of the middle of the mount. This was the mount. http://www.amazon.com/Tyke-Supply-Dual-Monitor-Stand/dp/B002R9HQLI/ref=pd_sim_pc_1?ie=UTF8&refRID=012CRCFVZPMV0FBS8VF6
Sticking out of the top post I had a bolt that the steel cable wrapped around to raise, or lower it. I was using pretty old and heavy Dell 2405 monitors so the sag was about an inch.

Cheers. The stand is okay, kind of finicky to adjust. For the money it's really decent.
Nice! Check out a dual monitor stand to really clean up that setup. The stand I got has built on plastic fasteners for cable management too. You can find some great deals on Amazon. Take the programs you're using into consideration. Imagine a program with a large GUI, tons of toolbars etc. Having one larger screen might be preferable in this setting. Other than this somewhat specific case, I'd argue for multiple screens.
If you do get more than one, then try to make sure that they end up at the same hight. I got a dual monitor stand and really appreciate the regained desk space.
