Hmmm 5 for $30 seems like the better play 🤔

u/sphighder-man · 5 pointsr/buildapc

Facts. It’s also not huge. I’ve seen some mATX cases that are pretty much just as big as ATX mid towers. It’s a nice case and it has a magnetic dust filter on top and one on the bottom for the PSU.

these are the fans I’m using

u/freakingwilly · 2 pointsr/pcmasterrace

It uses a proprietary controller, but you really can't beat the price. Really well reviewed too.

For sticking as much to that magic budget number, u/Parnax build is just about to be as good as you can get.

I’d also agree to go with an SSD and add any HDD storage later if necessary. Mostly for your purposes, an NVME only gives severe diminishing returns over a regular SSD when it comes to gaming or Windows load times, but there’s a 1g Intel M.2 stick that’s head to head better than every way to a regular SSD at the same price point of $95. There’s a 500mb version of this Intel NVME stick for $60, but getting double the storage for $30 more is the better value; you'll also need the 1g.

https://ssd.userbenchmark.com/Compare/Samsung-850-Evo-500GB-vs-Intel-660p-NVMe-PCIe-M2-1TB/3477vsm602553

Also upping budget, you can get a way better case for just $20 more (Shit, just sold out on AMZ where it was $45, $50 is still crazy good price though), the Cooler Master Q300L. The case usually gets the shaft when it comes to sticking to a budget. Also, for any case, you’re going to need a few extra fans, which builds seem to often neglect.

I’d also change the PSU to the Smart 80+ Bronze instead of 80+ one. This one with code is about the same cost-wise and is a Tier 3 PSU instead of a “Don’t Buy” or usually very low on the PSU tier lists. I use this tier list as a basic gauge, but use many to get an idea.

This is very close to the build I have ready for a family member that cuts no corners; just changed the GPU from a RX580 to RX570. The fans in the PCPartPicker are just a placeholder for these that aren’t in the PCPartPicker database. You won’t need them all, but are well rated and inexpensive RGB and will make the case look good. I’d get fans last so you'll have a better idea how many you'll need. They give you one, which you’ll probably replace and you may only need like 2 more. That case allows for 5 total 120mm fans I think, 1 included. If you know what you want, you could shave off $15 by only getting 2-3 fans of a specific color or no color at all.

Hope this helps.

This build features RGB, an 8-Core CPU, and a small mATX form factor for just under $700.

CPU: https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B06X3W9NGG/ref=ox_sc_act_image_4?smid=A23NVCSO4PYH3S&psc=1

This processor is still very good for multi-core performance, as well as 1080p and 1440p Gaming. This processor beats the 8400 and the 2600 overall.

GPU: https://www.newegg.com/sapphire-radeon-rx-590-100415p8gl/p/N82E16814202333?item=N82E16814202333

One of the best values out there, the RX 590 has great 1080p performance in AAA titles as well as the ability to run many games at 1440p very comfortably. The Pulse model has decent thermals and even has a $10 promotion currently on Newegg.

RAM: https://www.newegg.com/team-16gb-288-pin-ddr4-sdram/p/N82E16820331039

This price is superb for RGB RAM. This is clocked at 3000MHz, which is great because Ryzen loves fast RAM.

SSD: https://www.newegg.com/hp-ex920-512gb/p/N82E16820326779?item=N82E16820326779

The EX920 is also a great value contender. It’s only of the fastest sub-$70 SSDs out there. 512GB should be plenty for gaming. Plus, this SSD uses the TLC NAND, which is better than the 660p’s QLC NAND.

MOBO: https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B07NH5DBNZ/ref=ox_sc_act_image_3?smid=ATVPDKIKX0DER&psc=1

The B450M Bazooka V2 is fully compatible with the 1700x out of the box. This also leaves room to upgrade to a Zen 2 CPU.

PSU: https://www.newegg.com/evga-600-bq-110-bq-0600-k1-600w/p/N82E16817438100?item=N82E16817438100

The 600 BQ is a standard 600w power supply. It is enough for the system and is also semi-modular.

Case: https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B079P1VBDY/ref=ox_sc_act_image_3?smid=ATVPDKIKX0DER&psc=1

This case features a front panel with RGB as well as decent airflow for a budget case. Also has great reviews on Amazon.

Fans: https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B07DHM6SW9/ref=ox_sc_act_image_2?smid=AFRUWVWO3UJ63&psc=1

Your case will use all of these fans. I chose some budget RGB fans will decent airflow to match up with the RGB fans, RAM, and case.

CPU Cooler: https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B007JEMXYQ/ref=ox_sc_act_image_1?smid=ATVPDKIKX0DER&psc=1

This CPU Cooler might not be necessary, but I’m not sure if the CPU comes with the stock Cooler. If it doesn’t, this Cooler should be enough to provide decent thermals for the 1700x.

Scratch your build.

Much better CPU. Faster RAM. Much better motherboard. More and faster storage. Better GPU.

You don't need to pay the full price for Windows 10. Just download Windows 10 Home for free at Microsoft website and activate it by buying an OEM activation key for 15$.

if you need RGB here's a link for an RGB case fan pack. You do need another 3-4 case fans.

Thanks for trying to help this lost soul. You would think as a welder I'd have taken more of an interest in the topic before now buuuut whatever haha.

The fans have a proprietary power connector to it's own fan hub powered by molex which is why I was looking for a work around like this.

Also all (most?) of the built in case fans are wired together through two fan hubs also powered by molex.

To your last point about current draw... i had read that as voltage dropped amperage rose which would reduce the number of fans per converter. I have no idea about the ratios but having a half dozen of those through the case would be pretty lame haha. Is that correct or situational?

here they are and thanks!

case comes with 1 120mm RGB fan, but is only available in black.

one easy way to add RGB is a [RGB strip] (https://www.amazon.com/Tingkam-RGB-Attached-Controller-Generation/dp/B01HXPPUR2/ref=sr_1_4?crid=CKXYITWCVZY5&keywords=pc+rgb+strip&qid=1567206275&s=pc&sprefix=pc+rgb%2Celectronics%2C879&sr=1-4), or [RGB fans] (https://www.amazon.com/upHere-Wireless-Airflow-Adjustable-Radiators/dp/B07DHM6SW9/ref=olp_product_details?_encoding=UTF8&me=)

So for a white case, here is one option

or

I could also make some other recommendations for a white case if you want to order from Best Buy online from another retailer.

If you are going to spend that much on fans, get a better case. Your money would be better spent there. These fans aren't as good obviously but they are also much, much cheaper
