So the suit battery holds 200 MJ, and a personal laser defense uses 200 kJ per shot. So a single suit battery would hold enough power for 1000 shots.
1000 shots would be overkill. 20 shots is more realistic, so something 1/50th the size of a suit battery.
Even with current battery tech we've got portable 100 kWh batteries, which is a little bigger than the suit battery.
So assuming the power for the laser defense is correct (which seems unlikely) a battery powered laser pistol would be fairly realistic.
Also keep in mind that the tech used on the planet is probably far less than the tech the society would have. Metal-acid batteries don't have to be the only type of battery.
