I use one of these at work. (I'm a designer at a branding agency)

All I can say is: Try it and you'll never look back. I'd never used one before and asked if I could have one to try it out, a few hours later I was wondering how I'd used a mouse for so long - and using one now feels really weird. It was a bit frustrating at first (Excel especially, had a couple of rage moments) but now I'm a whizz at it.

One comment, the Intuos M is slightly too big for a 24in display (and in general, I think), it's a bit of a stretch from top to bottom, so I have the active area shrunk slightly.

With that, and your budget in mind, I would recommend the Bamboo range. My creative director uses and Intuous at work and a Bamboo at home, and swears by the Bamboo. I asked him last week about which to buy for home (work paid for the Intuos), he said not to bother paying the extra as they are comparable to use.
