You're repeating my path. Now I have a DS418J with 4HDs in RAID5 and a DS218j with 2 HDs in RAID0 for regular backups.
As a pure storage device the 418j is pretty sufficient if you're sure that won't need Docker, Plex or any service that needs more memory or a Intel chip. If your pocket is deeper than mine go for a + model or invest in having 3+ disks (with the same size) in order to enjoy SHR/RAID5.
Moving from 1 disk to 3+ redundant disks is a big step. But don't bet your media center experience in it. Losing big data is a sour experience. Go get an external HD for regular backups (in our case a file sync software is OK).
