Honestly you can build your own, this way you can get a warranty on a good performance drive and if it fails, just swap it out. Though here are the two options I would recommend:

Option 1 build your own: Buy a 2-4TB WD black gaming HDD (5 year warranty) or a 7200rpm 2-3TB Seagate Barracuda it is much cheaper but has less warranty offerings. I say up to 3TB with the Seagate as its 4TB model is not 7200rpm. Finally buy a USB 3.0 cooling enclosure, I use this one. Though you can find numerous ones all over the internet. With that enclosure you need no tools except a screw driver to open the case, then its simply insert/snap and close, total install time is 1 minute. This is the route I would take for performance and warranty offerings.

Option 2 retail versions: If performance is not an issue then really any drive will do just make sure its over 300GB and USB 3.0. A good cheap retail one is Seagate

I own 5 games and its half full. So 500Gb gives you room for about 10 games. Another Tb gives you room for 20 more. That is $1800 worth in games. If you can drop $1800 in games the SSD prices seem extremely reasonable. And also, hard drives can be external...

Edit: if you REALLY need space too, not all games need to be on an SSD. A lot of games wont benefit too much from the SSD and I'm sure some games you will play less frequently. For those gams you can buy a 4Tb HDD that is 7200Rpm instead of 5400rpm that is in the new consoles I believe and get a minor speed boost for only $250. http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B00FJRS5BA/ref=redir_mdp_mobile/185-0456694-3433360?keywords=WD4003FZEX&qid=1402080801&ref_=sr_1_1&sr=8-1#productDescription_secondary_view_pageState_1416430633818

And for another point, the internal HDD (on xbox one atleast) uses 138 Gb for OS and stuff like that, you will not lose that on a external drive. Thats an extra of 2-3 games for every 500Gb! If you total it all up a 4tb + 1tb SSD + internal HDD you have 5,326 GB which is enough room for 106 50Gb games! That equals out to be ~$6k in games. Im sure that is plenty, no?

3 TB for $90?

Too good to be true. The rate of DOAs suggest that the drives are probably refurbished old drives or plain duds.

Furthermore, I'd suggest you get a 4 TB drive as that's the sweet spot for capacity/performance these days.

Would definitely get a 7200rpm. Considering your hardware a 5400rpm may be a bottleneck (if you plan to run games off of it). I personally would always go black especially if you are planning to run games off of it as it is more of a "performance optimised" drive. Also, the warranty on a black is 2 years longer than a blue, which in my eyes is always worth a bit extra, this page gives a bit more info on the warranty info http://support.wdc.com/warranty/warrantypolicy.aspx#group2

Here is a page on amazon with a black 4tb, it appears to be on offer too which is never a bad thing :D

I would replace the 5400rpm hard drive with a 7200rpm one like this:

This is 4tTB and a little over your budget but since Black Friday is near you might be able to get a good deal on it.

Actually, thanks for pointing out the rpm. I had a 2tb Seagate 7200rpm as my HD choice before last night, but then I found out that Seagate has a bad rep, so I switched it around and didn't really check the other stats. Just changed it to http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00FJRS5BA (WD 2tb 7200rpm). Thanks again.
