And I need to exit this sub immediately. I just realize that the WDModel I paid in Nov is no longer the top dollar product. They got something else, before I empty my wallet for it.

Bye everyone. Take care!
I bought the WD Blacks last year and have not regretted it. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07BRCLMTS Just keep an eye out if they go on sale for the holidays.
I upgraded mine to the Western Digital Black 1 TB NVMe drive, but it's made in 250 and 500 GB too. It's extremely fast and current prices look pretty affordable too.

I'm in the market for a 1TB SSD with a budget of $500. I will use the SSD only for gaming. The motherboard I'm using is Asus Z170 Pro Gaming. Which SSD offers the most bang for the buck? One
Two
Three
No, M.2 can handle both SATA or PCIe (or a lot of other stuff not used by ssds). But even if you got a PCIe ssd that does not guarantee an NVMe controller. Some PCIe SSDs use a normal AHCI controller. Both SATA (~560MB/s ) and AHCI (~1GB/s) are limited in their maximum speed. For the faster speeds (often 2-3GB/s) you need to make sure it uses NVMe.
Here's the NVMe variant if you want to try to return it: https://www.amazon.com/Black-High-Performance-NVMe-PCIe-WDS100T2X0C/dp/B07BRCLMTS/ref=sr_1_1?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1526801877&sr=1-1&keywords=wd+nvme+1tb
If you want to keep it: It seems you already got 3 SATA controllers. The M.2s SATA connection will end on one of them. You could try to pass it through and shift the other drives to the other controllers. Alternatively you can add the whole drive (i.e. /dev/sde) as a raw drive. Just make sure not to mount it on both guest and host at the same time (windows automounts).
Keep in mind that some boards link the M.2s sata ports with 1-2 normal sata ports (on the same controller). Disabling the other when one is in use. Check you boards Manual.

It's one SSD slot and one HDD slot, right? I wouldn't replace a 1TB HDD with a 128GB SSD. I had a 1TB WD Blue SSD on my desktop and it was plenty fast. Load times for Division 2 was waaay faster than my PS4.
$110 regular version. I have this one. I don't think you'll notice a performance boost in comparison with the NVMe model unless you do video editing. Click Here
$160 NVMe version. Click Here
I don't think so. In this post people mentioned the SX8200 960GB and that it has gone on sale for 174 and 154. You're better off getting this one.
Hey, i have a short question about SSDs:

I want to increase the storage on my laptop. I currently have a Lenovo branded Samsung 512GB NVME SSD and I'm looking for 1 TB.

I'm pretty sure i want NVME again, but not sure which exact model I would want to go with.

Samsung, WD and SanDisk all have them at about 230€. The Curcial P1 is only 150€, so what gives?
> Also the game is not on an SSD
This is 100% the problem.
Especially since:
> Ram: G.Skill - Ripjaws V Series 8 GB (2 x 4 GB) DDR4-2400 Memory
8 gig is not a lot of RAM these days for a gaming machine. I'd recommend 16 gig for the sweet spot in terms of price vs performance. 32 gig is nice to have if you're like me and leave up 30+ browser tabs open.
But you'd see a greater performance bump with an SSD. These days, it's crazy NOT to have one as they're relatively inexpensive. You can get a 1 TB SSD for under $100 now. If you want to save a few dollars, get a 500 GB SSD for $65.
If your motherboard supports it, and you've got some money to blow, I'd recommend the 1 TB WD Black NVMe for $220. This thing is blistering fast, with read/write speeds of up to 3 gigaBYTES per second. They also have a 500 gig model for $100.
Seriously though, hard drives are very slow. Even under ideal conditions, read speeds are typically very fast, and their latency is really bad compared to an SSD, even on a 7200 RPM drive. Those stutters can easily be caused by needing to load some data off the hard drive and the game pauses while fetching it. Or, because you only have 8 gig of RAM, it needs to page some data in or out. An SSD would vastly improve both scenarios, an NVMe more than doubly so.
