From what I've read, the cans aren't pressurized, at least to the extent that tennis balls are. You don't get that "pop" when you open a can.

There is, however, this ball pressurizer that you can get for about 10 bucks, that claims to add pressure back to the balls, and give them more life, even balls that have lost their grippiness. I've never used these, but the device does seem to get good reviews.

It makes sense from a physics perspective, at least intuitively if not in actuality. Say the balls are originally pressurized to 1 atm of pressure, or even a little bit more. Every time you hit the ball or it hits a wall, the ball is being compressed, meaning the pressure inside the ball increases, and since the rubber is semi-porous, some of the air will leak out to the lower pressure atmosphere. So if the ball drops to .9 or .8 atm, it won't bounce as well, and the pressure gradient with the atmosphere won't "fill it up" very quickly, if at all.

My guess would be that there won't be a tangible difference of 4-6 months, but you'd have to actually test that.
