Youth In Revolt by C.D. Payne. (Ignore the movie.)
Is it a classic? Nope. But you're looking to get back into reading, and personally, I would think that the best way to do so would be to read something entertaining. I read it when I was 18 and thought it was funny as hell. Laughed out loud multiple times.
If you want something with a bit more fantasy, try The Princess Bride by William Goldman. The only time I ever faked sick in high school was because I wanted to keep reading this book.

When I was 17, my two favorite books were 'The Catcher in the Rye' and 'Cat's Cradle'. But as you've been reading since you were three, you've probably read them both.
If you want to have a lot of laughs, I highly recommend 'Youth in Revolt' by C.D. Payne.

I just read the title and Ready Player One came to mind first. If you liked that style you should check out Youth in Revolt
Brutally funny, not video game related per say but Ready Player One reminded me of it.
What kind of things do you like? If you want to read something hilarious then I'm going to say Youth in Revolt because I lost my shit when I read it. The movie doesn't even slightly do it justice and it makes me sad because they left out so much amazing shit.
Maybe Youth in Revolt by CD Payne? It's one of my favorite books!
Please don't judge it by the Michael Cera film version.
Youth in Revolt is an excellent, laugh-out-loud book that I loved when I first read it many years ago. I must mention, however, that many people consider it to be an inferior regurgitation of the older British Adrian Mole series.
