I always assumed this type of lens was just called domed because of its shape. While I can't help you much more beyond that i have found the watch for you on Amazon (1, 2, 3, 4) and they are slightly above your price point of $500 but hopefully an extra $50 isn't too much for you to get the watch you want. :)

I got it on amazon for $599 two years ago, the price is a little higher now

The movement is a little loud but it’s a great piece and I’ve gotten quite a few compliments on its style.

I'm afraid you'll have a tough time getting a brand new one at that price point. The power reserve indicator is a surprisingly expensive complication and hand-wound watches tend to be pretty simple and minimalistic generally.

Orient makes a few automatics with power reserves for ~$600.

For a hand-wound, though, I think your best bet is The Graf Zepplin Hindenburg. (And a
Worn&Wound review.) Be warned, it lives up to its name. It may look positively huge on your wrist.

Tissot, Hamilton and Seiko are good choices for this price range. The Visodate is definitely a classic and I think it can be dressed down as well if necessary.

Something about the phrase mid-century vintage makes me think of a Zeppelin 7060-4 which is also a solid choice in your price range.
