If you don't have root access, the best you can do is force stop all apps besides Kodi that you are not using.

A handy app someone made and put on the Amazon app store is called Background apps & process list

It has the ability to cycle though the app info screen for all running user apps, so you can click on Force stop on each one quickly.

This will give you the max amount of memory possible for Kodi, and hopefully it's enough to keep it running when it goes to the background.

I had the remote you linked, and I threw it out. I found it awful, which surprised me because in so many ways it was almost awesome. But the keyboard is missing many of the keys I would need for the command line on the linux OS that kodi is running on, it was fussy abut picking up keys unless I was very close, there's no way to turn the mouse off and so it comes on every time you touch the remote and puts a cursor in your screen, and there's no stop button. How does someone make a media remote with no stop button?!

Anyway, this isn't an empty rant, I found this very similar remote for a very similar price that fixes all of these issues. The two problems it has is that the "back" button doesn't map to the right button, so doesn't work in all cases unless you remap it, and the first button you press wakes up the remote instead of actually sending the command. So it isn't perfect, but it worked for me a lot better than the other one you linked.

As a bonus, it can be used as a game controller if you run emulated game consoles launched from Kodi.

Yes you take up 1 port but on the bright side it does come with a spilt for charging + reciver

The Plus model just came out recently so there actually is not many bluetooth ones around. They only have the Blue colored (heh) bluetooth i8+ it also it a bit more at 27.99.

Honestly what I would do, if I wasn't using an rpi3 which has 4 usb slots, is get the RF for 21.99 then get a 4 way usb splitter for your other port for 6.49

Here's a dope ass chrome rii i8+ lol

Buy a wireless mini keyboard, they sell some that look like controllers and have a keypad. Search Amazon and you could find one for like 15$.

Edit: found one: iPazzPort Wireless Mini Handheld Keyboard with Touchpad Mouse Combo for Android TV Box and Raspberry Pi 3 and HTPC and XBMC KP-810-19S - Black https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01CE70TZC/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_wxgDAb6ET6TY0

FYI , you shouldn't use "range extenders" , they can really kill and much up wireless bandwidth and cause interference .

If you need better range , you should wire up a Wireless AP to the router with a cat5 cable and put it in a central location .

I love Ubiquiti products , rock solid ! https://www.amazon.com/Ubiquiti-Unifi-Ap-AC-Long-Range/dp/B015PRCBBI/ref=sr_1_5?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1543440302&sr=1-5&keywords=ubiquity

I've been using this remote for years now and it works great right out of the box, however it looks to be out of stock everywhere. Possibly discontinued?

Also look into small factor PC's I use this

With a keyboard/track pad combo it makes working on it simple. Plus you get the benefit of a full fledged PC. They make the combos smaller, I like a full sized for typing.

2TB hard drive with 800 or so movies, still has space, PC and DVD(r/w) with BluRay.

The drive and DVD are optional addons obviously.

>Do you use a vpn on the cubes?

No, but these aren't the cubes. It's this thing: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01N32NCPM/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_aZg3Db6RGZ2XR

They were only on the market for a year or so until the 4k sticks came out.

>Are you using Ethernet or WiFi?

There is no ethernet option.

>Do you use rd or pm?

I use RD. I also tried PM for a couple months.

>Tried restarting you router?

Of course. And cable modem. I also tried using 5g mobile hotspot through my cell provider.

None of these things made a bit of difference.

Thanks for digging this up. In addition to the "buffering 0%" i mentioned, i had all of those same symptoms from that thread as well with this device, even though mine isn't a cube.

I setup a raspberry pi with exodus and trakt for my computer challenged parents. They do pretty well with it.

Edit to add: they use this remote -Rii Mini Wireless 2.4GHz Keyboard with Mouse Touchpad

Ohh okay, that's what the tab button does for me. I have one of these remotes with a full keyboard.

Can you show me a screenshot of what that option looks like? Then I'll see if Auramod can do something similar.

u/DrummGunner · 1 pointr/Addons4Kodi

Interesting. I have this keyboard/mouse and since my set up is in the living room, I'm not sure i like the look of a keyboard on the table. Mine does have a home button though but it just takes me the top of the page, ill look around for a linux driver and see if that fixes it.

If you know of a smaller profile combo than mine, please share

An OTG Y-Cable was the best thing I bought for my Amazon Fire Stick. Connecting a USB hub opened up so many possibilities. Everything I've connected to it has worked so far: wired keyboard, wireless mouse (with dongle), wireless keyboard (with dongle), USB thumb drive.

I would def reiterate that he is getting ripped off, tell him he can get a much faster PC for the same price or even longer sub to RD

or if he is deadset on a prebuilt save almost 50% for something beefier
