It depends on the look you want to go for. My room started off looking a lot like yours with the beige on beige carpet and walls, minus the ummm..... unique drape. ;) I repainted and added some chair railing but that may be more than what you want to do.

LED lights are an easy, inexpensive addition. They allow you to change the entire look of the room at a moments notice and when you don't want them, turn them off. This is a great set for the price that allows you to turn them off/on and go through lots of settings with your phone. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07PLNDJ2N/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o05_s01?ie=UTF8&th=1

If you want the neon lights look of an 80s arcades, there are a lot of options on Amazon. You have old fashion neon signs and more modern LED based "Arcade" signs. A search for "Arcade Light" on Amazon gives you lots of options. https://www.amazon.com/s?k=arcade+light&i=tools&ref=nb_sb_noss_1

The Arcade1up Pacman and Galaga ship lights are fantastic for the price, especially if you find them on clearance (I got them for $8 each) just be prepared to run some mini usb wires for power to them and they eat batteries fast. Their light up Marques they recently released are also pretty cool but at $60 each, there may be better options.

Personally I'm going with game themed artwork that matches some of the cabs. I have this TMNT and I have a 4 panel Mortal Kombat piece that should arrive this week and a 4 panel Infinity glove piece coming in next week that will go over the Marvel Limited Edition cab when it arrives. https://imgur.com/AQNFxhe

These can be found Beeshop and Mojo Canvas. Just keep in mind that these come from China so expect a near month wait for them to be delivered.

While the $75 WalMart clearance deal is great if you can get it, the online price of $165/$175 isn't necessarily a bad deal either since it will save you a ton of time compared to designing and bulldog your own cabinet and you get some graphics on the cabinet w/o having to spend $100-$200 to buy graphics for the side/front of the cabinet.

It's a great and relatively inexpensive way to get started on building a custom arcade cabinet, figuring out how to get things working, and learning what you like and don't like about different configurations.

For myself, one of my top priorities was being able to play vertical-screen games on a vertical screen and horizontal screen games on a horizontal screen. For a screen that is 17", having a horizontal game squished into a vertical screen or vice-versa is really annoying. It looks so much better when the game fills the whole screen.

Having an Asteroids and Centipede cabinet lets me have both screen configurations, and my idea is to have quick-swappable control decks (and corresponding microSD cards pre-configured for those control decks) for any control deck variations I need for certain games.

For example:

  1. Horizontal screen fighting game control deck (2 8-way joysticks with 6 buttons each) for games like street fighter, MvC, Mortal Combat, etc. and any other games that need an 8-way joystick. These are games that have 2 simultaneous players.

  2. Classic vertical games (1 4-way joystick or easily switchable 4/8 way joystick, 1 spinner, 1 trackball and 3 player1 buttons) for games like Tempest, Centipede, Galaga, Pac-Man, Donkey Kong, Dig Dug, etc. These games typically alternate between player 1/2, so only one joystick and set of buttons is needed.

  3. Non-Figher Horizontal games (1 8-way joystick, 3/4 buttons, trackball and spinner) for games like Missile Command, 194x, Zoo Keeper, etc.). This will work well for games that support alternating players.

  4. Other configurations that require uncommon control deck configurations (2-player Marble Madness with dual trackballs or simultaneous 2-player scrolling shooters on vertical screens).

My idea is that by using buckle latches like these: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00O9Y9KE0/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o04_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1, all I need to do to switch configuration is to shut the raspi down, unbuckle the two side buckles on the control deck, unplug 2 usb cables, swap decks, swap SD cards, and reboot. Shouldn't take more than 1 minute to do everything and be running with a new control deck configuration.

The eventual goal is that when I build/customize a full-size cabinet, I'll have a really good idea of exactly what I want to build and how I want it laid out. And in the meantime, I've got these A1UP cabinets I've been able to play an experiment with.

i got this android box with 4gb ram a few months ago on sale for around $50. i hooked it up and it plays great. eta prime has several videos of android mame and emulators. its nice to be able to add bluetooth controllers and play across the room. i can also use it as a youtube video jukebox. plays android games and just about anything that you can do on a phone. added some new l.e.d.s i found at walmart that blink to the music. its pretty awesome. https://www.amazon.com/Android-Remote-RK3328-Bluetooth-Ethernet/dp/B07FHYFP5C/ref=sr_1_6?ie=UTF8&qid=1541723335&sr=8-6&keywords=4gb+android+box

just used https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07WGK99X5/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o03_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 and its super easy. This is the easiest of easy and everything seems to work pretty well.

The buttons I used are a "EG Starts" kit. Cheap and cheerful.

The little dot in the middle is only picked up by a camera. Unnoticeable when playing games etc. They do feel better than the stock buttons. Joysticks are the biggest improvement though. Honestly the stock buttons that come with the SF cab aren't that bad, I just didnt like the concave design

Yep. I'd also recommend some of these screw hole covers if you want it to look super clean.

One of the reasons I jumped in here is because there was a post in r/RetroPie yesterday? where someone wanted to have an 8-way and a 4-way. I was thinking that was you.

I'm not sure what you mean about pulling pins out. I would do this in the most "non-destructive" way possible -- in/with the wires -- but that's just me and my preferences.

EDIT

I would use "single pin JST"? connectors on the wires. I've never used them before so I'm not sure I'm using the right terminology. Neither am I sure the best place/way to obtain them but this is what I'm talking about:

https://www.amazon.com/KINCREA-Housing-Connector-Adaptor-Assortment/dp/B07DF9BJKH

The "single" / small one in the upper right corner of the pics. Not sure if there are different sizes of the "singles" either and if they'll fit on the pins coming out of the 5-pin joystick.

Sure, hopefully this works, as I'm pretty new to posting on Reddit, but here goes:

https://live.staticflickr.com/65535/48789763852_3820598c89_k.jpg[/img]IMG_20190924_152512807

I used these: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B071RRPJ56/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Probably overkill, but I wanted to have plenty of length to ensure the light would show up, as it's indirectly reflecting off the surface behind the cabinet. I also wanted to ability to change the color, giving me options to experiment.

Hi there! New to the subreddit. I'm going to be purchasing a Street Fighter machine shorlty. I have a Pandora's box, but it's this unit. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B075WT8BNV/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1

I know I can use the CPU from the Pandora's box, but I assume I could also use the sticks and buttons from this set up and use them on the Street Fighter Machine. I then need the hdmi adapter for the monitor and I should be good to go right? Has anyone used the parts from a similar unit to mod an Arcade1up machine?

the on/off with cana kit is just a power off, I made a simple button that connects to pi GPIO 5 and 6 ..

https://howchoo.com/g/mwnlytk3zmm/how-to-add-a-power-button-to-your-raspberry-pi

There was a better article I found that I was able to make it both a power down as well as a wake button. Two wires, one button. Ill take a picture of the top of my cab, its not pretty, but it is neat, organized and functional

If you were asking about the spearkers: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B001ES8X9M/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o05_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

After modding my cabinet (ETA Prime Mod). I didn't want to use the stock speaker so I ended up buying this wireless Bluetooth speaker.

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B010OYASRG/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

I plugged it in with a standard aux cord into the HDMI board and it works perfectly. I have it mounted on top of the cabinet low enough where it is not visible.
