The single best resource I've found for comic writing is Denny O'Neil's
dc comics guide to writing.

Personally, I set objectives and let the organically come out over a set number of pages. Example: I need to add A, B, and C over the next 22 pages. This gives you enough wiggle room to make changes along the way.

I host the Comic Book Creator Podcast that you can check out for more tips.

This is the one I use for scanning my art HP Officejet 7612.

This was a great buy for my since it allows me to print 11x17 bluelines as well as scanning at full-size all-in-one. I used to have a separate large format printer and a separate scanner, leaving no room on my desk for anything.

Looking to write. I do a webcomic <https://www.instagram.com/internetroommate/> and collaborated with an artist on an illustrated novella for Inktober last year. <https://www.amazon.com/Sirens-Song-Andy-Nordvall-ebook/dp/B07BJCQDT4>. Hoping to get more comic book stuff going.

I highly recommend the Kaboom Dictionary book. There is a "thesaurus" section that goes by type of sound (punch, bird, explosion, etc) and lists out a ton of example words.

First thing first, buy and read Alexis Van Hurkman's Color Correction Handbook.

Then buy and calibrate a colour monitor and use something like a Blackmagic Design microconverter to drive the monitor.

Do all of the exercizes in the handbook and then find some footage to download and correct. Then get some jobs and work for 10 years. You might be a colourist by then.

Most of the time with comic pages, I go from traditional pencils with blue Col-Erase, whatever 2H/HB pencils I have lying around (mostly Lumographs, some Tombows) on prelined comic boards, scan, and digitally finish in Photoshop.

If I do want to blow up a smaller sketch to 11x17/traditionally ink though, I have an Epson Workforce 1100 printer that I bought several years ago, it was on sale at Amazon for some absurdly low price (like $99-149ish). It's not advertised as being able to do 'artist quality' prints, but for putting something on paper that's going to get inked over anyways, it worked just fine for me.

This printer may be its successor, but I don't have any experience with it.

Oh, and I remember my earliest comic stuff, I printed the sketch on two 9.5x11" on a normal printer (college's printers=all I could print, ha ha), used a lightbox to align the pages, taped them together, stuck them back on the light box, and then did the final inks on bristol over it. So there's that lower-tech way too?

Hi Vlad,

I'm a writer of horror short stories. I've written a series of shorts that are in the comedy-horror vein, which I think your and Brezgun's styles would compliment greatly. However, I've never written a comic script, (although I've read hundreds of comics!). Any suggestions? Is script writing something I could tackle myself? Do you know of a good script writer?

Here are links to a couple of my Kindle self-published stories:

I don't have much experience writing comics (I have a 12-14 page script for a horror novel adaptation of my short story My Hero, Peter Cushing), but it's something I'm looking to get into. I DO however have experience writing short stories and longer fiction. My work has been published in numerous collections (here are links, to provide a little proof: http://www.amazon.com/Horror-Novel-Reviews-Presents-Melts-ebook/dp/B00HFIIX7M/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1449972978&sr=8-1&keywords=matt+molgaard - http://www.amazon.com/Horror-Novel-Reviews-Presents-Hellacious-ebook/dp/B00GHPU3VI/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1449972978&sr=8-3&keywords=matt+molgaard), and I self-published the genre double-shot, Say No to Drugs (http://www.amazon.com/Say-No-Drugs-Matt-Molgaard-ebook/dp/B00LF43ZWK/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1449972978&sr=8-2&keywords=matt+molgaard) which has a 4.5 star rating after 20 Amazon reviews. In addition to these things, I write for Dread Central, Horror Freak News, Scream Magazine, and own and contribute to Addicted to Horror Movies and Horror Novel Review. I'm interested in seeing what you've got in mind. I'll PM you as well as dropping this response.
