FYI,

I got the one mix 3 (base model) and this USB c hub from Utechsmart (Note that this hub is rebranded by multiple companies using VL817 and LT8712X chips. the port layout and triple display advertising are exactly the same, find one that you like: Hiearcool, YXwin)

https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B07PRJJNGF/

In windows:
I am able to drive 3 monitors , independent extended mode (laptop internal + 2 HDMI, or laptop internal + 1 HDMI +1 VGA). The external displays are 1080p (don't have anything higher)

The USB C female port on the hub is power only (it does pass through power to the laptop. A lot of these mini hubs only does USB C power pass through, which means you cannot plug a USB C flash drive in the hub

Manual for hub says it passes through 14.5/20V, which is fine because the factory included laptop charger supports 5v/3A, 9v/3a, 12v/2.5a, 15v/2a, 20v/1.5a. not sure if hub is able to support just 5/9/12V power input

Still looking through your Linux testing to see which Linux distro I want to use, will test the hub and display out probably with KDE Neon

Edi: tried different Linux distros (kde neon, Ubuntu 19.04/18.04). Only able to drive one display from hub (even if I plug in 2x HDMI or 1x HDMI 1x vga). Both displays mirror the same content. Need to investigate. Can still drive triple display by doing internal+usbC hub+miniHDMI from laptop

I have not tried the stock charger at all.

I actually own two of those:

https://www.amazon.com/Anker-Charger-PowerPort-Multi-Port-Samsung/dp/B00VH958F0/ref=sr_1_cc_1?s=aps&ie=UTF8&qid=1504123386&sr=1-1-catcorr&keywords=anker+40W

They are charging with about 2.8 A at 4.8V which gets the device fully charged.

There is also a thread I just stumbled upon about charging which mentions some USB-C PD chargers that might be worth a try:

https://www.reddit.com/r/GPDPocket/comments/6krvz8/official_charger_specs/

Regarding the stock Ubuntu: I would get rid of that as soon as possible as the guys at GPD seem not to have any real clue about porting Linux/Ubuntu properly.

There are several options to switch to a better distribution that most likely causes less trouble as Hans did a great job working on an awesome kernel.

If you're still in the lookout for a storage solution, I've been using Sandisk Ultra Fit 256GB. It's the only one I've found with this size with the super small form factor. So far so good. Amazon link

There are already telescopic gamepads like iPega 9023 and flydigi WEE but one designed with the Pocket in mind would be great.

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B06XKSNCTM/ref=twister_B06XKFYY7W (supports only up to 6.3in)

Wow thank you so much for all of this!

So if I’m reading you correctly: with the hub shown here you were able to get all of the accessories and HDMI runnning while charging on the default charger that came with the GPD2 with no problem?

EDIT - - above was the hdmi model, currently looking for the displayport one that you used to confirm.

And the by selecting the HDMI 2 output, you were able to transmit audio to the TV (or whatever device was connected) through the hub /displayport cable?

EDIT 2 - - It appears only the HDMI model is available on amazon in Canada - not the displayport version that you tested with. Would you be willing to bet that the power draw on that format is not what was causing the issue on the previous hub? It looks like the closest thing I can find to a solution so far. Thanks again. I think this is my best bet but I'll wait for you to weigh in.

I haven't tried it, but this looks like the smallest one with the required profiles.

This is the fifth USB-C device from GPD (and the third I own) and they still can't get the C port right. You have to find the particular hub, the particular charger, the particular powerbank... And it looks like it wasn't an oversight, but a deliberate decision not to bother with a current limit. Max has 15v profiles disabled to make it work with its own charger, so they knew all the drawbacks of that decision, but still released the device as-is.

I wonder if one mix owners have to deal with that bs.

Purchased. Thanks! This should work well when I want to travel with the thin mini mouse I bought for my Pocket.

This one, if you're curious: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B06ZZJ6C3P/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o03_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Did you happen to get a USB joystick working in retroarch under arch linux? I'm trying to use an ibuffalo snes style controller (https://www.amazon.com/Buffalo-iBuffalo-Classic-USB-Gamepad/dp/B002B9XB0E) and I'm running stockmind's mint mate 18.3, but retroarch doesn't recognize my controller.. it's weird because it works perfectly in mame.

Thats still a pretty big reader to shove in there. Wouldnt something like this had been better if you only wanted microsd?: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0028R3NCU/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o06_s01?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Cool job getting it working, although id be seriously worried about the potential for shorting pins given the tight tolerances there.

For those who want a case with an extra pocket for the charger, I bought this one and it fits the Pocket perfectly and has extra padding inside: https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B0118M837A/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

This will work perfect right
https://www.amazon.com/AmazonBasics-High-Speed-Micro-HDMI-HDMI-Cable/dp/B014I8TZXW/ref=sr_1_5?ie=UTF8&qid=1518858712&sr=8-5&keywords=amazon+basics+high+speed+micro-hdmi

I need it for tomorrow and that exact one is on amazon prime now so can add have that delivered in the am rather than go to bestbuy and pay 3x the price. I assume it will just want to double check.

u/elfanbro · 3 pointsr/GPDPocket

This evecase fits it just about perfectly. I used it for pocket 1 and am using it for pocket 2 now. It even has a little pocket on the front for extra micro sd cards or a cable or two.

Kind of.

I've had a pretty good experience with the Aukey one (HDMI+USB3 A+ Charging) https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B072Q1SKZR/ and the Juiced Systems hub (HDMI+USB3 A+Ethernet+Charging) https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01NAAZ0E0 kind of works too.

The Aukey one is more consistent so I can have everything plugged into the hub (power+HDMI+devices), then plug the hub into the pocket and everthing works. Usually if things don't work, unplugging the hub and re-plugging it in gets all the devices to rescan and everything works. The downside is there's no ethernet or card reader built in, so you would need to use up some of those USB3 A ports on the hub.

The Juiced systems one (despite being much more expensive!) frequently has glitches. I think this is due to how power delivery works on it. It will power devices with just the charging cable in without being connected to a host. So if you keep the charging cable in and then plug the whole thing into the pocket, my experience is that the pocket will only detect charging and some devices will not work (no display output). If you don't have th power cable in, everything works but then plugging in the power cable does not charge the pocket. The only way I could get this to be somewhat consistent is to: (1) Get a larger wattage charger (2) have the power un-plugged with only the HDMI plugged in (3) plug the hub into the Pocket then (4) plug in the power and (5) at the very end, plug in any other usb devices. Even like this, the last step is still sometimes inconsistent and sometimes I have to use a separate USB hub on the USB A port on the Pocket as no devices would detect on the hub.

I imagine any of those neoprene sleeves for the Kindle would be an alright fit.

Such as https://www.amazon.co.uk/Red-Neoprene-Sleeve-Wireless-Universal/dp/B008MXQ67S/

The GPD Pocket is 18cm x 10.6cm, and these cases are 18cm x 13cm
