You probably want to go back in and clean up your lines a bit. I can see some bleed from the tunic onto the left leg, from the arms onto the bands, and a few other places. Totally normal but I would strongly suggest some jewelry goggles. I use this one personally:

https://www.amazon.com/SE-Illuminated-Dual-Flip-Magnifier/dp/B003UCODIA/ref=sr_1_15?keywords=jewelry+goggles&qid=1565111795&s=gateway&sr=8-15

Other than that good work. The wash and the dry brush on the tunic looks great. You did a great job on the wash and brush on the hands as well.

How much wasted space do you have in that file box? I was hoping a plastic portable version of a file folder would be good enough. I lugg a box like that around for my DND games and a separate one for other RPGs and they are cumbersome to transport especially when you consider the size of the main box.

My other standees etc are well organized in main box with 4 Plano boxes that end up giving me plenty of room otherwise for tiles and books. I want to have the original box plus something to hold the map tiles as the only separate piece but was hoping something smaller that could fit in my messenger bag. We use a laptop and gloomy companion to do monster cards and that works great for my group.

Something like this maybe: Smead Portable Expanding File Box, 19 Pockets, Alphabetic (A-Z) and Subject Labels, Handle and Closure, Legal, 1 Count, Color Varies (70806) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B004I2EV2O/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_HIIAzb1PF8J21

I just assembled this over the weekend. It was a little more work than I thought, so here is what I’d say to do:

Get this hobby knife (or something like it): SE 813PK 16-Piece Hobby Knife Set with Aluminum Collet Chucks https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0002BBYIE/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_FRGhAb4HDSWWY

The pieces were very difficult to punch out and several big pieces splintered in places (not to the point of structural integrity). After a couple of this (I know I know, I tried to change my technique), I used the flat chisel like piece to begin punching them out. Took a lot more time but it worked. Pressed the chisel down and lightly tapped with the hobby hammer I got from Meeple Reality.

Speaking of which, get this hobby hammer (or something similar, the light weight is important. I got big hands but it is fatiguing swinging the little bigger guys): Cousin Craft and Jewelry Mallet, 8-Inch https://www.amazon.com/dp/B001144WTE/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_SJHhAbJ83KX36

Once the glue is in, or you got the pieces together, hammer them in. Check for gaps in the joints.

Speaking of which, get this wood glue (or something like it) : Gorilla Wood Glue, 4 oz. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00HDM9I3S/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_MOGhAbT804887

The first half or so I applied it to every joint. Keep a paper towel handy or something to clean the excess that seeps out.

The last couple of intricate pieces I only glued the outside supports. The intricate pieces inside didn’t require it. I’m pretty sure it’ll hold. If it doesn’t I’ll glue it when it happens.

Ok, I think I got it down. I wrote this over 4 sessions as time permitted quick style, so if something is weird or doesn’t make sense let me know. I have so little DIY experience , so if I can do this, you can do this.

A binder with card pocket pages makes item storage and selection sooo much easier! We keep the Random Items in two separate pages, whenever the time to choose one comes, we just smack them down on the table face-down and select one. Alternatively, you can use a random number generator off the internet.

I got mine from a friend who ordered them from Amazon, so I can't be sure what brand he got, but it's something like these pocket pages here.

Edit: It should be stated, however, that the item binder does not fit in the original GH box. We're using a organizer to keep things tidy within the box, but then we keep our items separated in their own special binder, and we keep map tiles alphabetically ordered in an accordion folder, together with the party sheets, unlockable envelopes, removable stickers, etc. All of these goodies fit snugly into a large, blue IKEA bag, handy for those Grab'n Go situations.

A great place to start is the mini painting starter sets by Reaper:

https://www.amazon.com/Reaper-Miniatures-08906-Learn-Paint/dp/B00NTMC49G

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01N458GBK/

They're not too expensive, and they are a great intro to mini painting. They also come with pieces to practice techniques on, and a lot of paints to work with as well. I'd get those, and maybe some brushes.

I also would recommend a wet palette to keep paints wet between painting sessions, magnifying glasses to help see, and a mini holder.

I also got these brushes, which seem to be working well for me, and have a mix of useful ones.

I use UltraPro American mini sized 16-slot top-loading pages and they work great; fits sleeved cards pretty much perfectly (they'll stick out of the top of the slot about 1mm, but it works fine and actually makes them easier to pull out. You can fit 2-3 sleeved cards in each pouch comfortably).

>EDIT 2: I haven't yet ordered any primer. Any advice on what colour to use (White/Grey/Black?) and what brands would be best?

Army Painter is a common spray primer that a lot of people use.

Another tip that I have is to not forget the model base. You will often see photos were people didn't even bother to fix the random blotches caused when painting the figure, which is distracting and makes the whole model look worse. It's very easy to just paint the base black, but it's also very easy to glue some junk on there and take your model up a level. Even just some dirt/sand, bits of leaves or bark & small rocks. You don't need to buy stuff. Just go outside with a couple baggies. Get some glue put down and stick the stuff on, maybe with some tweezers. The stuff won't stick where you didn't put glue. Here's a good example of basic sand & rock basing which is very achievable by a novice.

I couldn't find many options. Most were either too big or too small so I went with these. As you can see I have some spare room but I really like how the miniatures fit perfectly

After seeing the various customizations out there I decided to take a shot at my own. I'm not a crafty sort (as you can probably tell) but I am pretty happy with the outcome.

This setup lets you see enemy number, HP, and status without having to look at a computer screen or sleeves. How to do it...

  1. Stands from SpielPro, though frankly the existing ones probably work fine.
UPDATE: Don't buy them- the yellows are defective and you can't easily insert your standees without scuffing them.

  2. A labeler. I used this to print and attach the extra numbers in the middle.

  3. Some mounting putty. Never used putty before but this seemed to work fine. You don't need much- if you look at the far right stand, that is plenty.
    https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000BQMFEC/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o03_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

  4. Small dice. Any color or whatever will do. I used these.
    https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00MDU77YW/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o03_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Even if you aren't very crafty this is pretty easy to do and it makes updating combat results a breeze. Just rotate the dice and attach status as needed. I'm always looking to optimize, so if you can think of any further improvements, let me know!

Basically, I knew there was zero chance of fitting everything in the box. One day during a random run to Michaels for supplies, I saw these interlocking storage containers shown on the right side of the pic. They work phenomenally, and have 3 different sizes of trays that are removable. All but the smallest have room for the monster square-shaped inserts. I have them organized closely to how the pictures were taken in my other album. The idea is, you pull out what trays you know you'll need for a given scenario, and the rest can stay on the shelf.

I was able to find these on the Michaels site, but it looks like they are in-store only. I also go them for much cheaper than this listed price.

Beyond the mini storage, I bought some baseball card boxes for lots of various in-box storage, I'll take some pics of those tonight. They can be found here:

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01JPGNZXS/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o05_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Also, I picked up an easel based on another user's suggestion, and tonight we'll store the Gloomhaven map on it.

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01CQ9318A/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

A side bonus of this easel is it has a little storage drawer that can fit most of the stickers in it.

Oh, and finally, I use a a smaller storage tote to hold the terrain tiles, and a medium-sized one to hold all locked content and unused characters. Those can be seen in the main pic on the shelf above the actual Gloomhaven box.

Sounds like you already bought coins that you like, but I figure I'll just make a quick plug for the ones I got and really like: https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B001CICTZS/

Looking at the other options in this thread, I guess these are a little on the pricier side at $10 for 30 coins. I like them because I think they fit the "rough n tumble" theme of Gloomhaven!

Wizkids has some. They come primed and ready to paint. Pretty sure Reaper has some, too.

Here are some fucking awesome fantasy metal coins.

yes, i super wish i could find a box of miniature d10s, but I have not been able to find them. i'm not doing anything like base-6 math as others here have suggested, and the person i'm playing with certainly isn't either. the only small d10s i have found come in sets, like these: https://www.amazon.com/Transparent-Mini-10mm-Dice-Chessex/dp/B00NH1TJ4M

u/MyNamesMikeD75 · 1 pointr/Gloomhaven

This is what you need, but be aware because a lot of places are starting to price gouge these, probably because of the popularity of gloomhaven. I pick these up at my local game store for 2 bucks for 50 and they're $6 on Amazon. You might want to try a local place first, especially since you need I believe 975 of them.

Since no one has actually answered your question, I used grey Rust-Oleum primer for my Gloomhaven minis (Amazon link).

Now, I'm not 100% sure if this is the exact same one that I use, but it looks awfully similar. All I know is that it goes on smooth, doesn't obscure tiny details (as long as you don't heavily spray a single area), and dries nicely. I also have a white can of Rust-Oleum primer, but I'm not too impressed with that one. I'm thinking about giving the white Tamiya primer a try. Maybe that'll be better.

I tape the bottom of my figures to a paint stirring stick and then spray the primer on to them in quick, short bursts, spraying about 6 inches away from them and moving in a lateral sweep. Turn and rotate the stirring stick so that you hit all angles on the mini. Once finished, set aside in a dry room for at least 24 hours before you begin painting.
