I don't care as much about the pockets inside, so I don't have much to help with on that, but as far as outside goes...

5.11 Has a nice radio pouch that fits perfectly and works really well.

Maxpedition AGR has a pretty closely matching water bottle holder, but I feel it's 1 molle too large for the GR1.

Vanquest has an awesome skeletonized bottle holder that fits perfectly and matches well.

I've been on a four work trips with my Rucker 25L and one with my GR2 40L. Each trip was flying in Monday and flying out Friday afternoon.

For the Rucker trips, I didn't take my laptop (I took a different bag the first week and left it up there), but I imagine the experience would have been the same with a laptop in a GR1.

For every trip I packed my clothes inside Eagle Creek compression packing cubes. I love these things because you can either compress them if you're not carrying much, or leave them open for big cubes.

I wore one set of clothes and packed one extra pair of pants and two more of everything else. Everything was synthetic or merino wool. I washed clothes with Dr. Bronners in the hotel sink twice (except pants, which I just alternated). The key to fitting everything is lightweight travel pants. I live by these UBTech Travel Chinos. The are super comfortable, fold down to nothing and are decent enough looking to pass for business casual. I got them at Costco for $20/pair.

For the GR2 trip, the weather was much colder, so I also packed long johns and workout clothes, and didn't use the compression zippers on the packing cubes. I also brought some extra outerwear that went into the outer section of the bag.

If you can fit everything in a Rucker/GR1, it is a great travel experience. I got to sit in a front row seat on a Southwest flight that everyone kept passing up because my Rucker squeezed into a tiny sliver of overhead bin up front. Plus your stuff never touches the gross floor of the men's room.

The advantage that a GR2 has is that you can separate "flight" items from "non-flight" items. What I mean is, I don't need access to my cubes or toiletries or most of my electronic cables at the airport (get TSA Pre-Check btw). All of that stuff goes in the main section of the GR2. Anything I might want at the airport or on the plane goes in the outer section. That stuff includes a jacket, snacks, books, battery, etc. I don't have to repack the whole bag every time I pull one of those things out.

I'll say it's not quite my wheelhouse. I think mine is pretty basic, but it was cheap.

I'm able to fit a fair amount of food in it, but I haven't ever really packed a meal in the box that had to be constructed when it was time to eat (e.g. some kind of noodle dish in the bottom with fixings in the upper compartments). It's certainly not built for liquids, and the seal is pretty reliant on the nylon strap. All that said, it fits my needs for now.

This one seems like it could pack some serious meals, but at the expense of not being as compact. I think a good box is one that could feasibly fit your regular lunches but also inspire you to think of new meal ideas.

Sorry for the long post.

I asked this question after my first GoRuck event and got multiple answers, I did some searching of my own after looking at sealgrinderpt.com they list the Top 10 boots for GoRuck events.

Well I went above and beyond. In a 2 week period I ordered 19 pairs of boots/trail shoes/hiking shoes which was about $2700 worth (it wasn't all at once) All of which got returned.

What I wanted was comfortable, light weight, and good drainage.

If you want a boot, I would go with the Oakley LSA or LSA Water. Both are super light weight good ankle support, both drain water well and the LSA water drain very well (the have holes in the bottom with screens to drain the water. A buddy of mine did a Tough/Light back to back without changing socks and had no issues. Also try the Nike SFB 6 or 8 inch very light, drain well.

If you want more of a hiking boot, I would go with the Columbia vent freak, they are light weight and drain reasonably well. You can also go with the Merrill Ventilators they are a bit on the heavy side but drain well and are comfortable but do take about 20 miles to break so get some training rucks in.

If you want a shoe, Columbia Drain Makers are awesome, light weight, drain very well, no break in needed. Also try any non gortex salomon they were once sold on the GoRuck website and it the show that most Cadre wear.

Last but not least my newest discovery .... Nike Chukka SFB flyknit. They are by far the most comfortable "boot" shoe I found ankle support isn't great but it's more than a low cut shoe. So far I've done 2 training rucks and numerous "boot camp" and gym sessions with them and they feel great! Only downside ... They are pricey!

One last tip, make sure you double sock .. I HATE double socking but I found that injinji "liner" toe socks with thin smart wool over helped my feet more than ever. Let me be clear I hated toe socks and double socking until I found each of those.

I love this topic! I’ve completely overthought this a month ago because I have the same headphones. My conclusion is it depends on what you’re using as your ruck. If you’re using any GR ruck with the GR1 field pocket attached to molle, the headphones fit perfect and is a good use of space due to built in molle. HOWEVER...

I’m using a bullet. The GR1 is a bit too big. So here is what I use.

https://www.amazon.com/Thule-3203601-Subterra-PowerShuttle/dp/B076H9HTQP

It fits the headphones perfectly but what I love is the inner pocket in the top has dedicated volume. I keep a battery pack and small charger in there. I keep my cables flat in the net pocket under the headphones. I don’t use the elastic wire keeper as it puts pressure on the headphones. Seriously, it fits the QC35 perfectly and folded while not taking up as much space as the OEM case and GR field pocket.

Edit: my bad. I use size medium. It’s dope. I love it for carrying the QC35.

I'll shoot some pictures sometime soon but I use a combination of things with my Goruck bags - tenba wraps, soft camera inserts like this https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B00YAQW0GW/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o05_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

I have the 3 Field Pockets which are great for various small camera set ups plus accessories.

I have a Pelican 1520 case and the complete loaded insert drops nicely in to a GR2 40 L. https://peliproducts.co.uk/1510-divider-set.html

On the outside I use ThinkTank 'Red Whips' to hold a lightweight carbon fibre tripod or the big Gorillapod.

I've had a few regular camera bags fail on me one way or another and I love using my rucks for photographic use - swift and easy to customise depending on the job.

I have a relatively large amount of stuff that I want to take with me everyday. I'm still experimenting with it, but this is the best solution I've found if I want to keep using the GoRuck as EDC.

I use this insert in the bottom, which sits flush. I have my lunch in those metal cannisters in the middle, my water bottle on the right, and small snacks/food accessories on the left. On top of that, wedged to the lid of the pack, I have my notebook.

In the top zipper pouch, I have chargers. In the Echo pouch that I added to the top of the MOLLE attachment area, I have a grab bag of small electronic accessories. Of note, headphones.

In the laptop area, obviously I have my laptop (not shown).

It's pretty tidy and mostly provides easy access to everything. The only downside is the lack of room for much more. If I want to throw my sweatshirt in there, it reduces my organization and is a very tight fit. I should probably look at some exterior attachments for these things I'm trying to put on the inside. The problem is that exterior attachments are awkward on the GoRuck because there're only three MOLLE rows on the front (not to mention, at the bottom). I could add some stuff to the sides too, particularly for my water and food, but then it's not a slim profile.

Anybody else go through these struggles?

My GR1 is one of the best pieces of gear I own, flawless for my needs. Here's a comment I left a month or so back with a few pouches/organization stuff I use inside my GR1. I plan to do a video of my setup, been perfecting it over the years and some may find it useful. Here's the list of stuff I use inside my bag:

Toiletry kit (I love the mesh top and little handle) - https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00F9S8DK2/

This is what I keep my portable battery and charging cables in -
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B014PM4AL8

I use several of these amazing Kifaru pullouts (the large mesh for my rain coat, the ultralight small for my vape and extra cartridges, the 500d small for my "possibles kit", and I keep a xlarge ultralight tucked in the little inside pocket for wet clothes or shoes to go in) - https://store.kifaru.net/500d-pullouts-p185.aspx

Ultralight pullout here - https://store.kifaru.net/ultralight-pullouts-p22.aspx

I use a Tactical Tailor Fight Light Admin Pouch in the upper molle area for my pens/notebook/sunscreen/hand sanitizer/small screwdriver..etc - https://www.tacticaltailor.com/fightlightadminpouchenhanced.aspx

This is what I use for my first aid kit (perfect size imo)- https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01LZWEIQE

And I use one of these amazing quick clips from Alldayruckoff to clip gloves and a small fire kit and my keys if I need to clip them inside - https://alldayruckoff.com/store/gear/hk-quick-clip/

Hey guys!
This is my 34L GR2, EDC and Travel bag, and I LOVE everything about it.

I used 1 set of these as compression straps. They are very sturdy and work perfect with the GR2's additional MOLLE row evenly distributing the pulling force. My bag was pretty full and with these straps I managed to compress it nicely with an aesthetically pleasing look.

I made the cord net with this 1/8" shock cord, this zipper pull and this cord stopper. I ended using this shock cord net a lot to hold my hoodie or my jacket. Highly recommended, and these cord stoppers and zipper pulls are the sturdier ones I could find, they grip on the cord really hard.

And finally my favorite patch so far! :).

Okay, I'm going to screw this up but the link is below. I bought mine several years ago and used red (which looks super cool in the ruck).

ABS Plastic Sheet 3-pack 12" X 24" X 0.0625" (1/16") with Resource Kit for VEX Robotics Teams https://www.amazon.com/dp/B016PESTJS/ref=cm_sw_r_other_apa_i_OXQ1CbZ4JCDE5

If you search around a bit you can find multi thickness packs, especially if you go off Amazon and are willing to wait a few weeks for delivery.

If you use multiple sheets they are thin enough to easily bend making them very easy to get in and out of the ruck. One sheet isn't very stiff. But multiple sheets are quite stiff and comparable to kydex.

If you like I can dig around in the workshop and find my stash and snap a few pics.

Good move. I've been rucking around with my GR1 for about 2 months now. I love it, and will never use anything else. I thought I would regret it, but I don't.

I got the kit too. Everything is pretty useful. I did upgrade my reflective to these(the 9" ones fit perfectly in the molle).

I also got these to hold my hydration in place. I wasn't a big fan of the little bungee tie that came with the kit.

If you want a bite valve for the hydration bladder this one is the one you're looking for.

Ordered these from Amazon on Friday night, May 17 and they arrived at my doorstep on Monday, May 20. This is super fast considering I am in Hawaii and also that shipping was free (good luck finding any fitness supply that will ship weights free of charge!). Weights were shipped via USPS. The 20lb arrived in a USPS flat rate large box while the 10lb arrived in a USPS padded envelope. The 20lb box arrived heavily beaten but sufficiently taped. Inside the box was a ton of cardboard rolled up to protect the weight and the Yes4All branded box. Within the Yes4All box was another box and within that was the weight wrapped in bubblewrap. The 10lb arrived just in the padded envelope and then the Yes4All box with the weight wrapped in padding.

Unlike the Rogue fitness ruck plates, the Yes4All has the weight engraved in rather than raised which creates a smooth, flat surface.

I did a super scientific weigh in on my consumer level scale and the 20lb came in at 19.2lbs and the 10lb came in at 9.5 lbs. Will weigh again when I have a more precise scale.
