Earliest known depictions of Jesus show a curly-haired, smiling, boyish figure, with not particularly Semitic features, often carrying a magic wand.

Then he was often portrayed as a type of hermaphrodite, only later as a man, typically in scenes of suffering.

If you want to learn more this series of documentaries is really fascinating:

And I feel the need to say it's just art history, and I don't care what anybody thinks.

I honestly didn't know or see, I'm not usually a reader of r/funny or r/jokes. I read it in a very clever philosophy overview like 48 hours ago. Judging by the karma you got for your attempt, it would have been foolish on my part to steal from you. I thought it might be amusing to some, as I laughed out loud a little at the Starbucks I was reading it in.

Please tell me you're not picking fights over a meaningless and imaginary currency on a website that is designed for the discussion, not for the points. That'd be quite low and worthless.

I know many, many jokes. As a child, I had (well, this wasn't it, a super old 1960s one) this book and the Borscht Belt humor was my THING. That was brand new to me, I cannot stop laughing. Thank you, /u/yserbius, Thank you.

I remember a while back, I had to read 1776 by David McCullough for school, which, if you haven't read it, is a really detailed historical account of the American Revolution. I mostly remember that, like most international political issues, I had trouble following everything that was going on at once. Very interesting and informative read, though.

In KING OF THE JEWS By Nick Tosches, the author, while appearing to write a biography of Jewish mobster Arnold Rothstein, offers the hypothesis that Jesus was just another Jewish false messiah.

I don't know if the author's name is genuine or a play on the Yiddish word for backside.

Curiosity. Found a book full of jokes for adults. I didn't really get some of them, like I didn't know what a blowjob was back then, but I knew what they meant when the shop owner said he could get both in one shot.

A non catholic author, contains both praise and criticism, and includes as source actual interviews with her. Balanced and reasonable.
