> We are not talking about a starting earth, but a starting universe.

Well, Universe Prime, Earth Prime, the idea behind my reflection is the same.

> "Could" - so none of them did

We don't know anything about that.

> 1+1=2 no matter how many times you try to redo it.

I beg to differ. There are way too many variables for us the reduce the universe to a flip of a coin. It's not a switch, it's not binary, it's beyound us. Hell, we don't even know how big our universe really is, how could we know for sure how it started and how everything would play out if we started all over again?

I'm sorry, but I just don't see how you can be so sure about this when everything is just speculation. Don't get me wrong, I respect your opinion, but it seems really too simplistic, too "black or white" to be practicable.

It reminds me of a book I've read a long time ago... Lemme remember... Improbable, by Adam Fawer. It's not about parallel universes, but about everyday probabilities. There're so many things happening everywhere, so many things that could change in the blink of an eye...

Anyway, let's agree to disagree ;-) And check this book out if you find its synopsis interesting, it's a good read! And now I better go to bed because it's already 1AM here... Dammit.

See you around!

I really liked this post, a really awesome concept. Reminded me of the graphic novel Revolver Thank you for sharing.

u/TriumphantGeorge · 2 pointsr/LucidDreaming

Yes. Sounds like you are giving yourself a hard time about everything, and this is crossing over. Be compassionate and forgiving to yourself, firstly! :-) And, the magic: try to give up your thinking habit. Not, suppress all thoughts - passing thoughts are fine - just stop deliberately thinking. Whenever you find yourself doing that, go do something constructive instead.

Lucid dreams are a cool way to explore yourself and unfold things, but they also reflect your emotions back at you. Meditation and relaxation daily will work wonders.

I'm not completely sure right off. The one I bought (not just for this project) is a Blue Snowball. But that was because I wanted the extra options and range it has over other cheaper models to catch more "realistic" sounds. It's a $70 mic but I checked around and picked up a lightly used one on eBay for $37. But I don't think you'd need something like that to capture the type of voices we're going for, and no way I'd ask you to go buy something like that.

I'd have to suggest first giving it a shot with your webcam's microphone or your phone with a recording app and see how it sounds. Depending on the brand and model of the computer / webcam it might not be bad. I'd hate for you to have to go spend money for this.

But if you do decide to get something... I had looked at a couple in the $20 range before I crapped myself over the Snowball. The one I was originally planning to buy was this one which has pretty good reviews for it's price and intended use. And coming in at $13 is this one which looks like it might be just fine for speech recording. But whatever you do... Stay far far away from the "Connectland Gooseneck Tabletop Mic", trust me it's freaking terrible.

Great list! You may also enjoy my film OTHER MADNESSES. It's about a tour guide in New York City who is haunted by nightmares that he believes are actual premonitions of crimes that only he can stop. Lucid dreaming plays into the story, as well as the Tibetan Buddhist philosophy that all of our experiences are dreams, and that we should seek harmony between the dreamworld and our waking life.

OTHER MADNESSES is on Amazon Prime: amzn.to/2wbYy4Y

Most likely this is the case. Do you wake up naturally or with an alarm?
I experienced over Spring Break when I slept in that I couldn't recall dreams as well because I wasn't waking up immediately. If you wake up in the middle of the night, try to write everything from the dream you can remember. After a week or two, your dream recall ability will be greatly improved, you just have to make it a habit. I allow myself a couple mins after I wake up every morning to write down a couple keywords for each dream, shower and think about each one and try to process it, come back and write down as much as possible. I've been able to recall 4+ distinct dreams some nights.

I sometimes have trouble staying asleep so I drink a sleepy time tea that gives me more vivid dreams and I sleep deeper. You could look into this or Melatonin. For some reason, I just can't take Melatonin because I sleep deep for 3 hours and am then restless for the rest of the night.

Here is the tea I drink, there are many different kinds of sleepy time teas. http://www.amazon.com/Triple-Leaf-Teas-Relaxing-Herbal/dp/B00014E114/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1331561790&sr=8-2

If you want to drop that much money I would suggest a better tested product like:

https://www.amazon.com/REM-Dreamer-Dreaming-Induction-Device/dp/B003EH4V8I

While I have never used this (too poor lol) the reviews are decent and I remember Dr. Stephen LaBerge saying these masks are very helpful in his book. Keep in mind that nothing is guaranteed to give you lucid dreams as everyone is different, but I'd say this is the best bet.

I got a free copy of Lucid Dream on Command by Jamie Alexander and it outlines a really excellent method that worked first attempt after reading it (immediately after). Its only $3.75 on amazon for a kindle copy right now, I think it's worth it.

Sounds like awesome advice. Thanks man,ill look on amazon, and I think this work. It won't complicate any other meds (zoloft, etc.)? How would this work? http://www.amazon.com/Now-Foods-Soft-gels-1200Mg-180-Count/dp/B0007O1OHW/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1370282011&sr=8-1&keywords=omega+9

u/rickywoo · 1 pointr/LucidDreaming

YES - Save this resource because you will eventually forget. Just writing a few keywords about a dream give you a mental bookmark to go back and retrieve that memory again. I've been using Field Notes notebooks as my non dedicated dream journal.

I also recently read it in the book "you are not so smart" by David McRaney. Very, very enjoyable read.

Apparently the human tendency to create memories out of thin air is huge. Therefore, suppressed memories often are more the result of guidance by the psychologist, counsellor,... than they are based on the truth.

I've had both experiences - lucid dreams and astral projections, and they seem to me to be different experiences altogether - they feel different, the physics are different, the things you can and can't do are different, etc. That's just my observation, though, and seems to be corroborated by others as well (although they could, in the end, be just two facets of the same thing).

"The following is an excerpt from an article by Dr. Tart which was published in the Journal of the American Society for Psychical Research. In it, Dr. Tart documents the out-of-body experience of a young woman who was one of his research subjects. What makes this particular out-of-body experience remarkable is that she was able to leave her physical body and read a 5-digit number, which was at a significant distance, and correctly give it to him upon return." -- http://www.near-death.com/tart.html

This is one of many, many examples of research that has been done on this subject, specially with focus on trying to gather objective data while "out-of-body". The question is what serves as proof to you, as well as who you would believe or not, considering that there isn't a lot of parapsychological research being done by big name universities - but there are some (Dr. Tart being one of them).

Notably, The Monroe Institute has done a lot of research (also with focus on validation) over a few decades. You might want to check out a book called My Big TOE from one of the early TMI researches, Thomas Campbell where he goes about how they started exploring this phenomena and ultimately how they came to the conclusion that it was a "real" thing (not just imaginary) through several tests & experiments that they managed to replicate time after time.

For example, the first experiment they did that really hit the nail on the "it's real" issue for them was this: in their laboratory, two researches (Tom and Dennis) were in two isolated, sound-proofed chambers with no means of physical communication between them. They had to get "out of body", meet and go out exploring together - talking to beings, going places, etc. Then a third person (Bob Monroe) would compare their notes (that were being voice-recorded during the process - they were so proeficient at it that they could "go out" and talk at the same time with their mouths, to tell what they were experiencing) and after analyzing the session, he would get the two together physically and show them the result. It turned out that during the two hours they were out, they did experience the same things, talked to the same beings, etc. Eventually he also talks about how he was able to travel together with his his 5-years-old son while APing and go places, then in the morning they would talk about their adventures over breakfast.

I'm reading it myself right now, so I can say that it is definitely a good read.

I learned about lucid dreaming about 6 years ago, I had already been doing some of it without knowing what it meant. Then I read some books like dreamgates and a book by Robert Waggoner that really helped a lot.
For me, if I set my mind to do it, it happens, but if I'm too caught up in day to day life, or even to desperate to see a lucid dream it doesn't happen.
When I'm focused I can have one or two lucid dreams a night every night. When I'm not (currently I'm not all that focused) I have maybe one a month or maybe every other month.
As far as control over the dream itself, it depends on how stable my state of mind is. Desperation and too high of expectations always kills my ability to control my dreams.

Could you recommend a brand of DXM?

http://www.amazon.com/Creomulsion-Adult-Cough-Medicine-Ounce/dp/B006KXSOA4/ref=cm_cr_pr_product_top this is the one I'm looking at now. It doesn't have any other active ingredients, and the inactive aren't anything bad, so I think it should be good.

u/Garth_Lawnmower · 1 pointr/LucidDreaming

No the glasses are orange. Make sure they state what part of the light spectrum they block. I got these: https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B003OBZ64M/ref=pd_aw_fbt_469_img_2?ie=UTF8&psc=1&refRID=G0BYQQ5Z5198F4W4Q462 because they fit over my glasses. If you don't have glasses the brand has a pair that are probably more comfortable: https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B000USRG90/ref=cm_cr_arp_mb_bdcrb_top?ie=UTF8 Seems to be one of the more trustworthy brands.

u/thefishinthetank · 2 pointsr/LucidDreaming

It sounds like your sleep is really not good. The fact that you are going to bed late at night is likely part of the problem. If you spend this time staring at a screen or in a lit room your melatonin production will be suppressed.

You can try orange glasses. Put them on a few hours before your bedtime. They block blue light, which inhibits melatonin production. If you can get your pineal gland working you will have a better natural supply of melatonin and DMT. Also try to get sunlight while the day is on. Here is a link to the glasses I use. Good luck!

It has a lot of different names, but i'm sure this is it. Found it under the name Guayusa on Amazon.

u/benprowde · 1 pointr/LucidDreaming

While night shift mode does help (and f.lux for computers), it doesn't block a lot of the blue spectrum light that is emitted from your screen. This spectrum will still harm your melatonin production. However, you can trick your mitochondria into thinking it's still nighttime by wearing blue blocking glasses. You can get some really cheap ones for $9 on Amazon. It will make you look pretty stupid but you're in bed anyways so who cares.

u/zalo · 3 pointsr/LucidDreaming

Actually there is a thing called the retinohypothalamic pathway that is activated when a specialized chemical in your retina called "Melanopsin" is degraded upon exposure to blue light. This is a chemical that activates specialized neurons that bypass the visual cortex and go straight to the hypothalamus to degenerate Melatonin (waking you up in the morning).

Solution: Wear orange tinted glasses to block blue wavelengths http://http//www.amazon.com/Uvex-S1933X-Eyewear-SCT-Orange-Anti-Fog/dp/B000USRG90
