I tend to do a couple cotton blankets( you don’t have to). Eddie Bauer Herringbone Chrome Cotton Blanket, Full/Queen, https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01EHCQ88O/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_tai_eLk3CbBFS4T30 this is just an example. I prefer something with a grid design so I know I’m putting it on right. You don’t have to though. A cotton blanket with a throw on it might work better for you. Layering can be easier for summer. Utopia Bedding Woven Cotton Blanket Breathable, Cotton Throw Blanket and Quilt for Bed and Sofa, Grey https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00J82V4II/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_tai_9Sk3Cb6GQ8JKE is another option. You can of course get a fluffy comforter but there are other options. You can always put the comforter away in summer. You can also buy a bed sized throw. Also using 2 throws is an option (for bigger beds or get a say queen throw). For me layering works better. You get to choose how you layer. A friend does a cotton blanket and jersey knit throw over it in summer. You can always add a puffy comforter on top. A coverlet is also an option. Comfy Bedding Extra Lightweight and Oversized Thermal Pressing Leafage 3-Piece Coverlet Set (King/Cal King, Beige) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B072C569XL/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_tai_.2k3Cb18HFTW7 as an example. You can pick what you like and layer or don’t layer. I’m just pointing out you don’t have to sleep on the comforter in summer. You can put it up or order something for summer and see how you like it. You can add a comforter at winter. Not everyone uses comforter sets. Links are just examples, pick what you like and buy what you like wherever.

Thanks again for your advice. My wife and I went into a Sleepys today and the experience was much more pleasant, the saleswoman there was very kind and helpful and not overly pushy. After laying on several Posturepedics and Beautyrests we decided without a doubt this World Class Plush Pillow Top felt absolutely amazing and worth going a bit over our initial budget.

The woman at Sleepys was unable to price match the Amazon listing I have for it (she claims they wont match Amazon because they don't consider the mattresses brand new or something like that?) so it looks like we'll be purchasing through Amazon because it's about $500 less than she could give us, and even if it is just overstock or a 30-day trial returned now for sale online, that's something I'm willing to accept to save $500. Never the less it was very helpful to be able to go into a place where we actually felt free to try the mattresses WE wanted to try. Thanks again.

Hello,

We receive this question a lot and there are many ways to adjust your Ikea bed frame to work with Spindle's heavy latex. below is the information and here is the link to the article on Spindle's website, Supporting a Spindle with an IKEA bed frame.

Your on the right track with wanting to by new slats as well. Here is our recommendation on the specs for the slats, as well as the link. Proper support for a Spindle Mattress

  • Slats of solid wood, no less than 3/4” thick 1x3 lumber works great -- Oak, Fir, Birch, Tulip, Poplar, etc...doesn't matter -- just NOT ply- or fabricated wood
  • Slats spaced no more than 3” apart. Skimping can damage your Spindle
  • Center support[s] under slats with legs to the floor
  • Plywood is not recommended. It may flex; also can lead to mold/mildew

Most IKEA frames will not offer enough support for a Spindle. Fortunately, the critical mass of IKEA customers has provided a robust hacker community and their DIY solutions can be found by exploring Google Images, YouTube or Pinterest.

This YouTube video highlights one of the shortfalls and demonstrates one way to fix it.

There are many other postings online with pointers on how to add support to your IKEA bed.

DIY Bed Frame for $10 shows a basic solution.Reinforcing an Ikea Bed gets a bit more sophisticatedIkea makes Sultan, a leg for their center beam. You may be able to modify it to work with your bed.Bedclaw makes an adjustable height leg specifically for this type of application

To reinforce your IKEA frame, the minimum modifications we’d recommend are:

  • Use solid slats [just get 1×3 from lumber yard or Home Depot, et al], or buy a slat kit like this one.
  • Add support legs to underside of center beam [we recommend using at least 2]
  • Add support beams with legs: Universal Bed Slats Center Support System Adjustable Tubular Steel with 4 Legs

Additional support may be needed, depending on the way the bed is engineered. Thanks for coming to the Reddit community with your inquiry. We hope this helps and please contact Spindle if you need additional information.

I wouldn't say they are all awful but at the end of the day there is no such thing as free shipping and free returns, someone is going to pay for it and in these cases it's you, built into the cost of their mattress along with their big marketing budgets and referral credits. Some are better than others but if you don't want to spend more than $200 your options for something decent online are limited because again anything you buy online with free shipping typically has to build that into their mattress cost. The best thing I can even think of off the top of my head online at that price would be the Arctic Dream mattress from Dreamfoam. It may not last you for very long but it meets your criteria however at $200 you are likely better to buy something local that you can just pick up yourself.

Reviews can only tell you so much unfortunately. Everyone is a little different in what they want.
Goods about that mattress: Uses the combi-zone coils from Leggett and Platt, which are good coils. They aren't revolutionary technology that that Voila came up with and there are some options for getting them in a mattress. http://www.mattresses.net/ulhypoco.html
Another good is that it does use some latex in the comfort layers.

The bad: I have no clue what the other foam layers are, what their density is and whether they will last. Memory foam layers should be at least 4 pounds per cubic foot (pcf) or 5 pcf density (especially if you are heavier)
Polyfoam should be at least 1.8 with 2 being the minimum for heavier people.

If they are willing to tell you more about the densities of the foams and you are ok with everything, then it might not be a terrible buy.

However, if they don't tell you what's inside the mattress, it's best to assume the worst and potentially move on to something else.

That link I included is a mattress that I got and have had good success with so far. It might be worth considering along with other options. It could also be part of your DIY project as you can order those components separate from the mattress. They also make a slow recovery latex that is supposed to be more like memory foam.

All things to think about, and good luck. It's not a bad idea to go down the rabbit hole when researching. https://www.themattressunderground.com/

Edit: DIY
http://www.mattresses.net/copocobylean.html
http://www.mattresses.net/kibawozimaco.html (the coils are 9inch, get the 12 inch to include the topper in the mattress)
For the comfort layer these are two options.
http://www.mattresses.net/puslrelato.html
https://www.amazon.com/Density-Elastic-Memory-Foam-Mattress/dp/B006QWWW5C?th=1

The advantage of going the DIY route is that you can customize if you don't like the feel. for example, say you get the memory foam, but it doesn't quite cushion or support as well as you would like. You can add a medium or firm 3 inch latex layer and have the memory foam on top of the mattress. Of you can replace the memory foam in 5 years when it starts to wear out because the coils will still be good.

Okay, understood.

If you want soft foam, something like Casper but softer, then there are basically two ways to go. Either memory foam, or latex. If you want a soft memory foam mattress, you could try the "soft" option from novosbed.com , but I would not recommend that as your best option for two reasons: (1) the soft novosbed uses 3.7-pcf density memory-foam which is below the 4-pcf density minimum for decent quality memory foam and (2) with soft memory foam you tend to sink in more than with other foams, which could result in sleeping hot.

So, I suggest that latex may be your best option. But you would need a soft latex layer, preferably Talalay because it breathes better, and a thin, stretch cover over the latex, otherwise it would not feel as soft as with latex below a thicker quilted cover. With that in mind, I recommend you try sedonasleep.com , where you can buy a two-piece mattress: a polyfoam base with a Talalay latex topper. The topper has four firmness options, and I assume you would prefer the softest ("#19 Soft").

I also suggest cotton jersey knit sheets, and (after the trial period is over so you are not forfeiting your ability to return) no mattress protector or mattress pad. You can double up the fitted sheet if you want to add a little more cotton above the latex. It is difficult to find good cotton jersey knit sheets. Here are the best I have seen:

As a mostly stomach sleeper, roughly 2/3 of the time and about 1/3 of the time side sleeper, and a bigger dude I would recommend a firmer mattress. I tried many, including really expensive mattresses ~1600$+. About 2 months ago I got this mattress in king size. It is AMAZING, I have no more back pain/soreness anywhere. I literally have never slept better. I also got a slim pillow, when I'm on my side I just fold it in half. My quality of sleep went from a 3/10 to a 9/10 overnight and I only spent $400. Good luck, stomach sleeping is super comfortable with a firm mattress, also nice sheets certainly help. Also, a California King will give you the length you need, and is less than 400$ I believe.

You can get better value. There are a lot of online mattresses that are well reviewed and won't break the bank. For your budget, esp if you want a nice stand (bed frame?) I would look for something closer to $500 than $1000.

Full disclosure - this is sold on my site: Lucid is an online mattress company that offers good mattresses on a budget. You can find one for 30% off here. That will be a good soft mattress and leave plenty of room for your frame. Coupon code is PRES30. You can look the same mattress up on Amazon if youd like to price compare or read more reviews here

Good luck!

Heads + Feet up combine to create the Zero Gravity position, which there's a bunch of science studies on the health benefits of. Basically, they sum up to - Head up helps you breathe easier at night and helps alleviate snoring, acid reflux, sleep apnea. Feet up relieves pressure held in the lower back area, putting support behind the knees frees up the ligaments and muscles from the tips of your toes to the base of the neck. Both combine to make the Zero Grav position which is the optimal way of sleeping.

If you want the Head + Feet only use this to drop the price of the MF 300 base

If you want Head + Feet plus expanded presets and sweet massage, plus the ability to more easily move the base in the future (damn thing folds in half!), use this to get a better deal on the MF 600.

Both have a feature known as Zero Clearance so they'll fit exactly within the dimensions of an existing bedframe, or you can remove the legs entirely to put them on a platform bed or one with slats.

The salesperson won't be happy losing out on their commish but if they're decent folk they'll be more than happy you'll be sleeping better.

Not sure how it is for heavier guys, but as long as you don't get super hot at night, the following worked amazingly well for my 9 year old, she loves it and I love napping in it (185 lbs.)

Your budget is not bad, but, I would recommend you go down a size to full size in order to get something better.

To start out, you will need a foundation to place the mattress on.

This full size one is 85 dollars shipped: http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00ENRBD8O

On a 300 dollar budget, that's 215 left over for a good mattress that will last you 5-8 years.

For the mattress itself, at your price point, coils are always a better deal than foam. There might be places that will sell you memory foam or regular foam mattresses, but those will start wearing out much quicker than a coil mattress.

So for about 200 bucks, you can easily get a decent full size mattress.

Specs to look out for are as follows:

8" Thick Coils - Anything less than around 8" means that you're more likely to bottom out and wear out faster. Make sure to get Medium Firmness, Soft coils won't last long at this price point, Firm coils are actually about 100 bucks more. You can actually feel them through the side. Image: http://i.imgur.com/AKuEW1u.jpg

About 1/2" to 1" High Density Foam - Usually at about 2.0Lbs to 2.5" Lbs density rating. This is usually found on the mattress spec sheet, a lot of internet retailers lie about this, btw.

Done.

If you want to add additional padding, get a duvet cover.

u/kcahmadi · 1 pointr/Mattress

Why does it have to be on the floor? Just get a platform bed frame like this:
https://www.amazon.com/LUCID-Foldable-Platform-Mattress-Foundation/dp/B00ENRBMK8/ref=sr_1_1?s=furniture&ie=UTF8&qid=1520914609&sr=1-1&keywords=platform+bed+frame

With this you don't need a box spring, works with any mattress thats the same size and is easily foldable for storage. Plus it looks much more respectable than a mattress on a floor.

From what you wrote (slept on a roll away bed for a while and are sleeping on foam pads now) super high comfort isn't that big of a deal for you and you're on a very tight budget. I'm assuming you're in college or something and you probably don't care that much about how firm or how soft the mattress is but probably something in the middle. From all this I think your best bet would be a slightly used mattress on craigslist. You can get comfortable mattresses that have been used for under a year off craigslist for under $100. New mattresses from stores are usually at least 150$. You can also go on amazon and just order one of the cheap twin sized mattresses they have there that says is medium firm or medium soft depending on what you're personal preference is.

If what I guessed and assumed here is all wrong..... then sorry for wasting your time hahaha

I recommend checking out the Japanese shikibutons. I had one for about a year and it worked out great for my small bedroom. There are models that can fold up into a couch when coupled with a special frame. There are ones you have to roll up every day to keep it from flattening too much.

I used a fake bamboo picnic mat to keep the bottom of the buton clean. It ran me about $80 US but well worth the money. I recommend, if say you buy a twin size, to buy the next size up for the fitted sheet. It will help keep the sheet from undoing itself.

I hope this helps! https://www.amazon.com/Futon-Furniture-Traditional-Japanese-Mattresses/dp/B003VQNM2I/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1505107924&sr=8-2&keywords=shikibuton

I agree with zzonkers and ask the AirBnB hosts as well. If they're unaware - this isn't blue, however, companies do change design colors and it says "organic cotton" .

¯\_(ツ)_/¯
