Your plans for this phone are anathema to everything I hold dear in the cockles of my geek heart. ^Maybe ^even ^the ^sub-cockles.

Since there's, like, two apps that are exclusive to Nexus 5 that don't need root to function well, I think you'd get better traction and a wider array of app selections from /r/android. Not trying to be a dick ^okay, ^maybe ^just ^a ^little just saying, other than people suggesting replacement applications for stock apps, I can't see this discussion going anywhere. Speaking of, I find the stock camera app to be a little too basic, and prefer Camera Awesome. But I'm sure there's something better. Otherwise I'm pretty satisfied with the rest.

In the mean while, Wakeup Touch Nexus saved my sanity when my power button broke.

I also really like the Nexus Media Importer app -- but you'll need an OTG cable for that... it's nice to transfer stuff over. The cable is also pretty awesome since you can get a mouse or keyboard and have it work as well. But I heard that after 4.4.2 Google killed the ability for USB OTG? Which means less function with said cable and Nexus Media Importer if that's true. Haven't tested personally, or thought to check up on it.

If there are other Nexus exclusive apps, I'd actually be curious to find out as well though.

I agree with this 100 percent, i had a Nexus 5 before and returned to it for price reasons, i honestly cannot believe how smooth this device is. I mean it does have a good cpu, etc, but i absolutely love this phone. I can't lie i went to the r/Nexus6p and the photo shots have me seriously jealous, but besides all that i will definitely have this device for the better half of 2016, i love it. As for case, i got this one for little under 5 dollar and LOVE IT.

side note: i now understand why everyone wants a sort of replica of the Nexus 5 with updates specs having revisited this device, the soft touch and overall form factor is so pleasant.

Awesome, had a couple wipeouts, but with a thin caseology(?) black minimalistic case combined with:

So far survived well, never fell off. Make sure to get a good screen protector. This, combined with a good bluetooth speaker in a small mec backpack will make you excited to get Bach on your bike.

Let me tell you. This one - Montar. It looks cool. It sucks to not only glass but also other surfaces, even a bit uneven. This is not marketing trick, it actually sucks because of something like a soft sticky cushion, like a gummy bear but like 3 times softer on the bottom that sticks to surfaces, plus there's the suction cup/handle. It never moves.

The red grip takes getting used to a bit - to get the phone in. But then it grips the phone, you don't ever have to worry it might move or drop out. I had one for my car and then bought second for my beloved wife (she has an iSomething), and she's happy, too.

There is no charger integrated.
There is no inbuilt wireless charging.

Nothing except suck, grip and rotate. But what it does, it does good. This is a good video.

I bought this after having tested like 5 different of cheap mounts of this kind that all had various faults.

I never could have imagined I'd express such satisfaction with a phone holder but Montar have done a good job.

here's what I've been happily using & recommend:

  • this car charger. It will fully charge your phone while using navi with the screen-on at all times, if the charging cable is plugged in the NA-marked port and no other device is being charged at the same time. I've been wanting to experiment with a charging-only cable such as this one to see if it would help with better/faster charging and the possibility of charging a second device at the same time.

  • kenu airframe car mount. very simple, small, well-made, and works pretty much universally on all types of air vents. i frequently rent a variety of cars and have yet to stumble upon a model where the kenu wouldn't mount properly. holds the phone perfectly and takes a couple of seconds to mount.

as far as actual navi, GMaps has been unreliable for me during the last couple of roadtrips. I only used it because I knew I had a backup (standalone navi). it would crash silently and I'd have to pull over, and set it up again (and hope there is data/coverage because if there isn't, i'm SOL). this happened at least 4 times during a 6-7 hour drive. for this reason, have either a standalone navi backup, or another app that you can rely on, such as nav free or CoPilot, both of which i've heard good things about.

    have fun!

Just my $0.02 after years of fiddling with electronics and various gadgets. This goes for a lot of cleaning questions and tips here.

DON'T use a toothpick or compressed air unless there is a route/path of egress.

Sure, if you're careful you may be able to brush out some of the dust and grime, but forcibly doing so (using a toothpick or compressed air) is also very likely to push dust and dirt into areas where you really don't want it.

Unless you've disassembled your device and are cleaning it from the inside out, you are pushing junk into the device.

If you have some loose-ish stuff that won't come out by gently tapping the device face-down against your palm, for example, then you can try a soft-bristle brush. Again, though, this introduces a force that can push debris into the device.

You can try something called Cyber Clean , which is a putty that is specifically meant to lift stuff off/out of surfaces and crevices.

For prevention, the best option is probably a case (that wraps around/covers the gap. This will still introduce a little 'nook' between the front panel and the front edge of the case, but this is much easier to clean. Just take off the case and wipe away the 'frame' of grime left behind. Make sure not to wipe it over the gap between the front panel and the phone body, though.

This Nilkin, very basic but it's actual leather and pretty solid; worth a try for ten bucks. There is no closure flap, which I prefer. Autowake works well for the N5.

I will caution readers that this coverbot, also ten bucks and also pretty well made, does NOT have an autowake magnet. The AMZ description is wrong. The case was okay otherwise and note it does have a latching flap.

u/GuptaGrip · 2 pointsr/Nexus5

Thanks, that one looks awesome and definitely more useable on strange surfaces, but at around $30 all-in, that's an expensive stand.

I found [this one(http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00BFIHGO4/) which is around $5 and looks like it should work with the easy scenarios. Breffo is the big guns in case this one doesn't cut it

Pro: easy and worry free.
Con: not as fast as a good adapter.

I use these, and I have three. They're a great balance of cost and durability.

there's a bunch of amazon and such like this that all seem to be rebrands of the same OEM unit.

i mostly came here though, to say don't get the bezalel ark. holy crap, what a hunk of junk. that was the first one of these i saw, and i watched a friend of a friend spend like 20 minutes trying to get his phone to actually start charging with the thing, then it drained pathetically quickly.

note that these are consistently REALLY overpriced. Like, $50+ for a <5000mAh pack, when you could get a new trent or a xiaomi or something 10kmAh or more for ~$20. How much is wireless charging worth to you?

ebay and amazon have plenty, though. just searching "qi wireless battery bank" or "battery pack" or whatever worked.

Hello there, I would like to know what is the best Screen with frame to buy. I have found it with 65$ on Amazon. I wonder if this means it's of a less quality
Thanks

Get at least one google stock wireless charger to use as a car dock. Just superglue the sucker to whatever mount option you want. Holds the phone like a champ and you just have to slap it on there when you get in the car.

Also, if you plan on using the wireless chargers you may want to get a bumper case, which leaves the back open and gives a bit of a lip to protect the super fragile edge-to-edge glass.

Keep that glass feeling like new! But seriously, this stuff is the shiznit. It makes all my glass surfaces feel like I just took off the first screen protector.

Edit: My phone has been totally naked (save for a case to protect it from drunk me on the weekend) since I got it in March. One impossible to notice scratch. Overjoyed with the quality.

u/juice-digital · 2 pointsr/Nexus5

If it doesn't work out, you can grab a $60 screen/glass replacement from Amazon.

It's super easy to swap out yourself!

I use the Cruzerlite Bugdroid case and I haven't had any problems with it. Looks good and keeps it protected. I'm not one to drop my phones so it hasn't been drop tested, but I'm not willing to test that out for you =)

u/beermit · 14 pointsr/Nexus5

If you have access to a 3D printer, I recommend this one.

It's compatible with this qi charger. This is what I've been using for the past 4-5 months. It's a great little dock.

u/Gnomelover · 1 pointr/Nexus5

I bought this one: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00F1SHFJA

Its working very well. Same size as the phone, charges just fine with a Spiggen case on the N5, charges my N7 as well, is easy to position, etc. Not the cheapest but I have been pleased with it.

u/tjk911 · 2 pointsr/Nexus5

I'm typically super careful with my phone, so I just wanted a scratch-protection minimal case to avoid additional bulk.

I got the BearMotion "sandpaper" case. They go by various names, you can get them on eBay for $2 or so.

It adds enough of a lip to the front so that you can put it face down without letting your screen come in contact with the surface, and there's enough thickness in the back to protect your camera from contact.

u/nilleo · 1 pointr/Nexus5

The magnetic mount that comes with this one holds an N5 quite well. It holds mine much better without a case, but it still manages to hold it even with my Ringke slim case on.

The little magnetic disc has a ball style mount receptacle like some GPS mounts so you can remove it and use it with another mount style that doesn't take up your CD slot.

u/buffayolo · 1 pointr/Nexus5

My current case is
http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/aw/d/B00G9FXCKK?cache=3d44875bdaf4f3f465db4347eb096303&pi=SY200_QL40&qid=1407710629&sr=8-3#ref=mp_s_a_1_3
I think it looks good and it has saved my phone on at least 2 occasions after only having it for 1 month

u/calpaully · 1 pointr/Nexus5

It doesn't look or feel as nice because the factory-applied oleophobic (oil repelling) coating wears off over time. I just tried this stuff and so far I love it. It cleaned the screen and restored the slickness that makes new phones so nice.

u/Mikuro · 0 pointsr/Nexus5

I have a Ringke Fusion (this one, to be precise), and it works with the two chargers I've tried it with. Those are the Nokia charger and a PowerBot charger which I think is the same as the colorful circular one they show on that site (just rebranded, I think).

The PowerBot also works great with the Nexus 4 (in its own Ringke case), FWIW.

u/ignorancepower · 1 pointr/Nexus5

I spent $10 on a case and it's probably saved my $250 in potential repairs. That's not a bad ROI.

I picked up this:

What magnetic car mount do you have?

I am using this now, and I love that it isn't using the stupid suction cup that inevitably falls down. Unfortunately, it's not a charging mount.

u/canyouhearme · 1 pointr/Nexus5

If you are worried about the 'sweet spot' then one like mine might be in order:

http://www.amazon.com/Panasonic-QE-TM101-K-Black-Wireless-Charger/dp/B0051R4ECM

Not easy to find any more, and only ever sold in Japan originally, but it moves the charging coil to the phone, so you just slap it down and walk away.

I ordered one off Amazon (http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B00HKL3DEM/) and it worked well for me.

They sent me 2 by mistake actually. I don't know how much it costs to ship to you (from US) but if you want to pay for the shipping I'll gladly send you my extra.

As a more expensive alternative to chewing gum: Cyber Clean Putty?

Relevant user review here.

u/chanoelmano · 1 pointr/Nexus5

I have this case in white. I think they have all the Nexus colors. The case is lightweight and the waking feature works great. The adhesive on the back wears after a few months but it is cheap enough to replace.

My screen cracked and nothing was working. I ordered this part from amazon and got it working under 20 minutes:

So, this means when I read reviews on amazon and someone says "This charger does not stop at 100 percent and makes the phone hot" or something like they, that isn't true?

SO like this for example:
http://www.amazon.com/TechMatte-Wireless-Included-Qi-Enabled-Charging/dp/B00F1SHFJA/ref=cm_cr_pr_product_top

Will be fine, but can be expected to charge slower than a wall charger because of the low output?
