I'm Canadian and car seat blankets are a pretty standard thing here.
They stay attached to the seat and the straps are threaded through specific holes. They also make them for some strollers. Add some mittens and a toque and you're good for keeping warm in a car seat.
Oh yes, it was a very scary situation for a 7th grader! I sure was one sick kid at that time. If you buy your own binder something like this is what I had. Nothing fancy, but it got the job done and aided tremendously in my recovery. Hope all goes well for you!

I saw them at Target yesterday too.
They're sour hard candies meant to curb morning sickness. I guess sour things are supposed to reduce nausea? I can't tell if they really work but the tangerine ones are a delight. Haven't ventured to the other flavors yet because I am a baby.

I just bought one of these maxi skirts on Amazon based on a recommendation in /r/BabyBumps yesterday. I will probably by more just waiting to see how this one is. I love maxi skirts cause they are stretchy and can wear after pregnancy also. Plus you can tie to the side if you want or hike up when you sit down. I like H&M Maternity - cheap and trendy. Otherwise ill probably live in maxi skirts/dresses.
