Now be warned, this is just how I did it. If you have the option, try sleeving it with cover first. Also, the USB Type A connector is easiest to solder on, so cut that one if you can.

Here ya go. Newer, updated model with a new handle. To my knowledge, all SN-28B crimpers are the same, coming out the same factory in Shenzen or wherever they are, just branded differently per company w/ different colored handles.

Search for “UL1007” 16 AWG stranded hook-up wire. Here’s one example. If you look around, you should be able to find a different color (shouldn’t make a difference though).

I've used that type and wasnt too fond. The self adjusting nature means that if the wire insulation is too tough, itll fail.
Try this pair, it has specific gauges and I haven't messed up a strip since I got it. The depth gauge also works well.

I haven't used it for mid wire strips yet, but I've got 3 split wires to do this week, so I'm about to find out if it works

I don't think that you really need a spool to store that little amount of wire, but........
Odd thing is, this is the cheapest route to go and will hold whatever you want to throw on there. Or this one
