Hey guys! Sorry if this is an incorrect post I just really want to get this out there. After tearing my hair trying to find a compatible USB I finally caved and did the resistor mod. The only USB’s I had on hand were 4, 8, and 16GB. The Toshiba Canvio Slim II shows to work for me. I understand not all HDD’s are equal but this was too exciting not to share. No hub, just the mod and a USB 3.0 cable. The disk runs at DC+ 5v/1.0A. I’m currently loading games onto it and will post an update of exactly how many games I can fit onto this and if it continues to perform properly. THANKS EVERYONE!

EDIT: Ok so here’s my first actual test run playing games on the drive. This is again with the resistor mod on port 2, a 1TB HDD, and a cheap 1000mA AC power adapter. So far everything looks perfect. On my small PNY 16GB drive I was getting stuttering on intro videos and even during gameplay. I think the drive was just bad or maybe had dirty contacts. It’s too late for me to try to figure that whole debacle out. So far this looks and feels great. Let me know whatever I have to do to keep y’all updated. As of right now I’m trying to get all the games and then I’ll post the final project. How much games I can fit on 1TB and compatibility of games. This is autobleem 0.6.0-b2 running on a FAT32 formatted HDD. If that sounds odd to you well it’s odd to me as most HDDs have to be partitioned to run FAT32. I used GUIFAT32FORMAT to format the drive with default settings and a ‘SONY’ drive name.

Okay so what you're asking for is very possible. Start the game you want to map controls for, open retroarch quick menu, go to input and change the dpad directions with the appropriate stick directions for player 1. However, this will cause issues for certain games. So, I would like to propose an affordable yet reliable alternative:

8Bitdo SN30 Pro USB Gamepad for Nintendo Switch, Windows, Raspberry Pi (SN Edition) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07R481CVY/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_XCW2DbRMD143Z

For $25 you can get this controller that has all the functions a PS4 controller has and works perfectly with retroarch. Its detected as an Xbox 360 controller which maps everything correctly for you. I own several 8bitdo products including the wired controller and the build quality is fantastic. Also the cord length is 6ft which is pretty standard.

I am from Canada and bought my PSC through Best Buy online. Mine came with a micro usb power cord. Not sure if others from up here in the Great White North had received power cords with theirs.

I don't use it anyway as I change power cords from my Pi 3B to the PSC using a power cord with an inline switch : https://www.amazon.ca/gp/product/B01N9SL18E/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o08_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

I am actually reusing an old 7 port insigna hub I bought from bestbuy a few years ago but this 4 port hub from amazon looks good. when looking for a powered hub make sure it comes with an AC adapter

Thanks for the info. I am infact using a USB hub for power. The exact model is linked below: https://www.amazon.ca/gp/product/B00VDVCQ84/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o05_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
The 3 dedicated charge ports provide 2.1A of power so I assume that is enough juice for the drive/PSC to operate properly? Perhaps I need a higher source of power to resolve the stuttering?

u/varignet · 1 pointr/PlaystationClassic

Thanks, will do.

Regarding following the bleemsync steps to just deploy the kernel, am I right I just need to follow steps 1-13?

Also regarding using the OTG splitter cable approach, am I right to assume this would allow *all* usb sticks to work? so no power draw issues at all?

Below the otg cable and usb stick I'm thinking of purchasing: https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B07M83762Y/ref=ox_sc_act_title_3?smid=A2CBW8FNZCDSJI&psc=1

Dex drive. Good luck finding one though.

Edit: I take that back. Apparently amazon has 7 as of this writing.

I ordered this one: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00LHR52VW/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1

It was on sale for $10 when I bought it. You can definitely find a good one for 5-10 bucks, but I would strongly advise you to buy from a reputable brand. The cheap brands, and this hold true for any piece of hardware with whatever solution you pursue, are often of poor build quality and can cause problems with your other devices. Make sure to read reviews and all that, and like I said, stay with known quantities if possible.

u/Xngears · 1 pointr/PlaystationClassic

Thanks, but will this work too? It's cheaper and I have Prime?

Also, what kind of dongle will I need? I have this one for the memory card, but I assume I'll need something like this but with two USB ports?

I got a two pack of 10 ft usb extension cables from amazon and they work great on PS Classic.

Thank you for the quick reply! If I go with a simple, externally powered USB hub such as the one I have listed below, what are the benefits of OTG? Can I use the USB hub for a second controller? Why OTG vs. a hub?

I got two wireless Gamesir G3s controllers connected to my PS Classic via powered USB and playing on Retroarch. Love them, can't recommend them enough personally.

This is the one that I got: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0744DW55H/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

It looks and feels like the real thing... just wish I could get the mapping figured out.

u/khedoros · 1 pointr/PlaystationClassic

> Brand new less than $20?

No, "if you really just want the Classic". If you'd also kind of like the PS1, then it doesn't apply.

> any way i can transfer to the classic?

Looking around, it's pretty easy to find PS2 memory card readers meant for the PS3, and I think those might work for PS1 memory too (although I'm not positive). Some of the prices for those on Ebay look a little crazy though. This would be the really old-school answer, if you have a way to get the software off of the floppy disks, and connect something with a DB9 serial connection to your computer.

how would this pen work? https://www.amazon.com/Circuit-Scribe-Non-Toxic-Conductive-Silver/dp/B00OZATJ3A

I have soldering stuff before, Mostly gameboy advances and what not but this pen seems neat.

u/FoferJ · 2 pointsr/PlaystationClassic

Thanks! I'm gonna set it up. The same adapter is on Amazon, too.

I've successfully used/tested a SanDisk 256GB, Seagate 1TB & Seagate 4TB drives, none with their own power source & all via OTG.

I had also seen this...

Is this good to buy? And can I still use the usb cables the PS Classic gave us to connect it to the hub?

u/WeededDragon1 · 1 pointr/PlaystationClassic

I use this hub:

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00TPMEOYM/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o03_s00

with this USB:

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01BGTG2A0/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title

but I think any type of USB drive/external hard drive would work with that hub. I wouldn't recommend the drive I use because it overheats when transferring games. I even power the PS Classic from the hub...

u/stjost · 1 pointr/PlaystationClassic

SANDISK Cruzer Glide Flash Drive 64GB USB 2.0 (via Target) worked for me without power mod or hub. I had it filled to about 32GB. I can't confirm if it works when filled past 32GB.

SanDisk 128GB Ultra Fit USB 3.1 Flash Drive - SDCZ430-128G-G46 (via Amazon) worked for me (without power mod or hub) when filled to about 32GB but stopped working when I added a ton of new games to it. Sorry, I'm not sure at what capacity it stopped working. I did the power mod on port #2 and now everything works flawlessly with this drive. I did not try it with a powered hub before doing the power mod.

In both of these cases, I'm running PSC Retroboot (standalone). I've never run Autobleem or Bleemsync.

FYI—None of my included links are affiliate links.

Edit: Also, I'm using this 5V 2.4A power supply.

Thank you! I've just tested a TP-Link TL-WN725N that I use on my SNES Classic, and I was able to go online in RetroArch on the PS Classic!

Here's an Amazon link to the TL-WN725N.

I've also tested a TP-Link Archer T9UH just for the hell of it, which did not work, as I expected.

EDIT: Also for the hell of it, I have just tested a Cable Matters USB 2.0 to Ethernet adapter, that I use on my Raspberry Pi Zero W, and it works on the PS Classic too!

Here's an Amazon link to the USB 2.0 to Ethernet adapter.
