If you're interested in continuing to talk with him about this, ask him how weight impacts tire grip, and how the force needed to turn plays into that.

You see... more weight does mean more grip from the tires. The problem is, the added grip provided by the weight is less than the added grip needed to control the weight. So more weight means less grip:force for the same move. Adding weight to the car means its maximum cornering speed is lower.

If you're interested in more, Think Fast has a good breakdown, without being overly heavy or technical. Speed Secrets is another good book on the subject of performance driving, but my memory is that Think Fast does a more effective job of succinctly explaining technical/engineering realities in an easy-to-understand fashion.

  1. I wouldn't as I've never lost a key. I'd suggest you buy a key finder instead https://www.amazon.com/Tile-Gen-Finder-Discontinued-Manufacturer/dp/B011HT9AL2?th=1.

  2. They are too expensive for what they are. Given the price of the car, I'd say not worth it.

  3. Depends on how far you want to go. If it was my car I'd do the following (all of these are fairly cheap and easy):

    MT/diff oil

    brake fluid

    PS fluid (turkey baster method)

    oil

check the coolant condition and if it is out change it

check the cabin filter and pollen filter and change them if they are disgusting

clean the leaves off of radiator to clean it up a bit

    change the timing belt

If you want to go farther, change the spark plugs as they are likely overdue (not sure I'd pay someone to do that unless the idle was rough). Change the front engine mount and you will likely get a better ride. If you are really scared about being stranded at the side of the road, change the water pump (if not, just change it when it fails).

  4. The OBDII scanners are dirt cheap, buy one off ebay for like $3 and run one of the free Torque alternatives (e.g. Dr something?). I don't think you will get much out of it, however.

  5. Not that I see. I'd be worried the rear window will look ghastly, that was my experience with early 986s.

> What did you film with?

I used a Panasonic HC-V770 camcorder mounted to the lateral metal bar just behind the seats with a Ram Mount system. The angle of view is very good but it's still a bit shaky and it's a bit strange that the camera tries to stay horizontal all the time. I'll see how I can improve that. I also have an external mic that clips on top of the camcorder but it was too high (not enough space with the roof) :-( The camera sound is not bad but the external mic is much better.

I forget exactly which bazooka I got. I got it used on ebay many years ago but this seems close:
http://www.amazon.com/Bazooka-BT1014-10-Inch-4-Ohm-Bass/dp/B0007WW4XW

I would look around to see which one is best for your needs.

As for the amp, same deal, I bought it many years ago and cant remember the specs but unless you're going for a ton of bass, any cheap amp should do the trick just to give your sound a bit of decent bass so it doesn't sound so "trebley" .

Yes, most dashcams use a 1 amp mini-USB power input, same as most car GPS units. I bought a long GPS power cord intended for hardwiring a GPS on Amazon and a fuse tap and tapped into an accessory fuse in the fuse box in the driver's kick panel. Ran the wire under the A-pillar trim and stuffed it under the headliner. I like this because it does not require cutting any factory wiring.

GPS hardwire kit similar to this: https://www.amazon.com/Compact-Hardwire-Charger-StreetPilot-receiver/dp/B007WN4RL6

I used MCS frames, they are available at amazon.com for $3 each, and then I printed the posters myself using my HP 3700 color laser printer.

I actually bought the frames from B&H, they were a little more $3.29 each but offered free shipping to Canada.

If you want copies of the poster jpg files let me know, I can put them into a zip file and upload them somewhere.

Got it off of Amazon: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07QPFBVFL/ref=cm_sw_r_other_apa_i_WeyYDb04M99XF. Does the trick quite well! I also got a 5pc set of various pads. Since the pads it came with are quite cheap and tore very easily.

I got this one for my 911 and it works great BarksBar Pet Front Seat Cover for Cars - Black, WaterProof & Nonslip Backing https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01GDGGC6A/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_y1pCybKYN9Y4Z

I have a cheap one from Amazon in my Cayman. It's worked great for my iPhone thus far.

I think the Conti has a DIN/ISO antenna plug and the original is a Motorola style, so you need an adaptor probably like this

AMMO NYC wheel soap, wash mitt, wheel brushes, and lots of manual labor. I have a separate bucket just for wheels because I don't want that stuff getting anywhere near my paint when washing. When finished I coat with Armor all brake dust repellent. It actually works.

I use this little wheel brush as part of my kit: https://www.amazon.com/EZ-Detail-3001-BP-Brush-Mini/dp/B007UTN60K/
It's amazing for getting in all the nooks and crannies of Porsche wheels.

I use Aerospace 303 . I've seen some stores carry them but I order mine online.

I use it for my interior leather and plastic bits with Microfiber towels and exterior with a few sprays into the wash bucket. I also apply on my door/window seals to prevent doors from freezing up during the winter.

I've heard some stories of this being true so take it with a grain of salt. I don't live in a city where it will freeze up too often, but I apply it during the winter anyways to just be safe.

No kidding!

But there are some ways to mitigate this risk:

  1. Park in a remote empty area, and put orange cones in the adjacent parking bays.
  2. After parking, place fake security cameras on top of your car.
  3. Bring a spousal unit or significant other to keep watch while you shop.

    I usually go with option 3 ;-)

The Complete Book of Porsche 911: Every Model Since 1964 (Complete Book Series) https://www.amazon.com/dp/0760365032/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_b5uxDb3YVFF02

Not a bad price. I added it to my wish list and maybe I’ll get it for xmas

u/G35 · 1 pointr/Porsche

Yeah, I hear you. I'm considering this.

Can you share which one you went with?

Right, the Nav is $650 USD all by itself.

u/TX50BMG · 2 pointsr/Porsche

If you daily one of the cars then I don't think it's really necessary. If they both sit for a period of time, then for $65 it's worth it IMO.

The Porsche version is literally a rebranded CTEK, though the model I posted has more charging modes. The Porsche version comes hardwired with a 12V outlet plug, but you can add that to the CTEK as well for ~$13:

u/UnicornPumaShark · 3 pointsr/Porsche

Lemme channel my inner /u/M0b1u5. Bro: You can afford a Cayman and not afford to have a 12V pump? Get something like this: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01AYQJGN6

u/gcm6664 · 1 pointr/Porsche

This http://www.amazon.com/Lisle-61570-76mm-14-Flute-Wrench/dp/B00AKA6NUQ?ie=UTF8&psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_detailpage_o01_s00 is the exact fit for the housing. Get a long extension and a ratchet and you should be able to take it off. Universal filter wrenches don't work if your filter housing is too tight.

I got a 30 pin stereo Bluetooth adapter to use on the iPod interface, works like a boss. No issues being paired to this and the car at the same time.
