I would like a manga called Azumanga Daioh (Paperback). Used please, cheapest at $10.85 with $3.99 shipping. Totaling $14.84, which I am not sure you can do.

It's honestly just a book, but I have a friend who isn't really wealthy and would love if he read this. He's a really nice guy, so I plan to give this to him for a gift- he loves most manga.

It's probably not the most needed thing on this thread, but hey- I seriously want the guy to be happy for once.

-edit1-
You're also doing an epic thing. Props to you. :)
And honestly hope if someone who really needs it, gets the money.

What a nice offer. I am going to put in a request here for cards We are on a tight budget, but I like to give, and I like to give snail mail. These cards are beautiful, would make me happy to send them out to others to make them happy.

I just learned what a koozie is, ha ha ha, we have none, but if we come across any, I will keep you in mine. Have a great week and weekend. :)

Hey there!

I've recently taken up crochet myself and just wanted to reassure you that it's not at all as tricky as it looks! You'll pick it up in no time.

When I first started I was directed to a series of youtube videos that introduce the absolute beginner to crochet. They're really good because they're slow, show you exactly what you're looking at and you can go back and re-watch over and over until it makes sense. Here's how to hold a crochet hook, for instance. Basically, look for Bethintx1's video series 'Back to Basics' (2010), she explains all sorts of great things and gets you started on your own projects.

In general, though, it's a good idea to look for any other youtube videos on crochet and see what style and introduction works for you.

The second thing I'd recommend is this wonderful little book called: Crochet Unravelled: A Clear and Concise Guide to Learning Crochet by Claire Bojczuk. It's not very expensive, and if you get a chance to look inside it you'll find it has clear, easy to read language and diagrams and it's a wonderful starting guide for terminology as well as technique.

You can also find packs of assorted sizes crochet hooks from amazon (just type crochet hooks and similar results will come up) which again are very reasonably priced and will give you a good starting point.

Lastly, head on over to r/crochet for all sorts of lovely inspiration and guidance.

Good luck!

This is such a generous offer!

Today I found out that my application for graduation was approved and not only will I finally be graduating this summer with my Master's degree in teaching (I've been trying to complete grad school for over 4 years because of various things complicating the process), but that my financial aid has been approved for my last few summer courses so I don't have to come up with all tuition money out-of-pocket! This is a huge deal since I live in New York and most of the school districts around me require a Master's degree to even have your application for a job looked at - hopefully now I can finally get my own classroom! :)

And while gifting isn't necessary, I'd be more than happy if you wanted to gift out these awesome knitting needles so I can make some awesome hats and things!

Today I was out at dinner with some friends having a great time and laughing when some drunk guy got randomly offended and thought my friends were laughing at him. He tried to get into a verbal dispute with us but his friends calmed him down. He wound up buying us a round of tequila shots (our choice of brand) and then actually paid for our entire meal. We all wound up getting along and drinking for a bit haha. It was ridiculously generous! On a side note: As a student, its finals week....but I was informed today as an employee that I won't have to work at all this week so I can get my work done and study!!! So I'm super relived about that.

Also, I've never played this but I've been told that I must. I figured this would be a great game to play with my roommates.
You don't have to click this link and do anything for me, this is a really really nice gesture you're offering. But since you're offering...haha

Although I need mine for my own hydroponic botanical needs, I can recommend the meter I use as a low-cost solution if nobody has one for you.

This is the one I use, and it's quite cheap at $15, but will still read just fine. Just get some calibration solution and check it a couple times between uses, until you are satisfied it is keeping calibration, then you can go longer without testing. I kept checking mine and it never lost calibration, so I've been pretty happy with it. It is not waterproof though, and after dropping mine in the reservoir I had to relearn how to read it due to to LCD cells lighting up when they shouldn't (so 5.8 read as 9.8 because the extra line on the 5 lit up.) After recalibrating, it was fine, just wonky to read, testing against drops and ph buffered nutrient solution (always sets itself to 5.8ph) showed it was calibrated fine. So just don't get it wet, and be careful not to break the probe putting the cap back on, as it's made of glass and the cap edge can crush it.

Another better quality one that I hope to get soon is this one, although it is more expensive at $50, it is also waterproof and just all around better quality.

I would like to get this poster. It's not for me. It's a Christmas gift idea for my sister-in-law. She has been asking for the same poster for the last two years. I keep waiting for the price to go down so I can buy it for her, but it never does. I only make 30 a week for cleaning my brother's house or my friend's house, so it's difficult to try and get her desired Christmas present. It would be awesome if I could get it for her, so if I win, yay! If I don't, you've done a brilliant job on here. I most certainly hope I can do an offer like this in the near future. : ) Thank you! xx

Edit: They actually have a smaller one for a few dollars cheaper. I'm glad I actually found that.

I can't buy you any books, but My System by Aron Nimzowitsch is a great book I'm reading in pdf at the moment. I'd highly recommend it for any players around the 1300-1900 USCF range (or even higher)?

Also, if you order any of the ORANGE books by Artur Yusupov in the Chess Evolution/Build Up Your Chess/Boost your chess series, I'm sure he would love it. These are a tad more costly though. The blue ones are harder, and the green ones are hardest (even masters struggle in them) so I think the orange ones would be least frustrating.

I love Chess and noticed you didn't have a ton of chess books on the list, so I thought I'd make a couple recommendations. Good luck!

Holy cow, OP, you generous soul!! One thing I was hoping for this holiday was a guitar so I can finally start learning again. The one I've been looking at is this one but honestly as long as it has 6strings and is acoustic it's fine with me! Picks would be great too as I don't like fingerstrumming.

Alternatively, I was hoping for Pokemon Moon this holiday as well.

If this is out of your budget I 100% understand but I do want you to know that you are a kindred soul and have made a lot of people very happy. :)

I stumbled onto this subreddit earlier today. It's pretty amazing what you all do for each other - beautiful.

I am currently out of work (but desperately looking,) in between college semesters trying to make ends meet - mostly by donating plasma and doing odd jobs. I live without air conditioning and normally use a fan. However, my fan crapped out on me last night. It has been so hot and I could barely sleep. I ended up laying on the kitchen floor to keep as cool as possible. I will not be able to afford a fan until late august at this rate. Today, I was shopping around on amazon and it seemed like this fan was the best deal but I still can't afford it: http://www.amazon.com/Lasko-2521-Oscillating-Stand-Fan/dp/B0014IDZOU/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1374805534&sr=8-3&keywords=fan

It's only $25 including shipping.
I can understand if someone else is more compelling to you but I'm sure imagine how I would feel if I got a fan during this heat wave! I promise that I would pay it forward.

Thank you for reading and I hope you have a wonderful week.

This is so kind of you. Thank you so much for doing this!

I'd love to have a Christmas gift for my "mother in law." I call her that because I was engaged to her son for a long time and we live together, but we are no longer engaged. His mother is the kindest, most selfless person I know. I love her so much. I'm not working right now though, and times are really tough. I can't afford Christmas gifts for anybody, but /r/SantasLittleHelpers and /r/RandomActsofChristmas has been so wonderful with helping for my children. I really want to be able to get something for his mom, though. She loves Laurel Burch prints and really needs a new purse, so I put this Laurel Burch purse on my wishlist for her.

Thank you again for the lovely offer! :)

I'll copy this to you. Just a bit of information on requesting games here.

>Unfortunately, it's incredibly likely that you're going to be shot down. /r/RandomKindness allows game requests, but people very rarely grant them even when they're cheap and about half the people here wanted to ban them. You can try /r/GiftofGames too, if you've not yet, but requests are rarely granted there either (though you likely won't be attacked for asking there at least, which people sometimes do here).

>If you really want it, I suggest checking out /r/Postloop (check the guide which I wrote) and/or /r/beermoney. They're both aimed at getting some extra spending money for things like this.

Also, I wonder where did you find Payday 2 for $20? It's $30 everywhere I've seen. [Example: Amazon]. I really want it too, so I've been looking into it too, for when I can save up enough.

It is pretty awesome. I played the beta and it's a great game to play with friends, with headsets and all.

These are sort of simple pleasures, but I woke up for the first time in two months not in pain from a rheumatoid flare up, and next to someone I love in a house that I can call my own. The sun is shining, it's spring, and my puppy is dozing at my feet. I don't have much, but I'm grateful for what I have.

Something I'd love for my bedroom:

A bit more than ten, but something super cool that's been living in my wish list for a while:

I'm a bit of a geek myself when it comes to headphones and iem's.

There are a few pairs out there that many consider the greatest bang for the buck:

  • I got a pair of Sennheiser HD25-1 II myself. They work great, sound nice and will probably outlast me in quality. They've been recommended by most parts of the audiophile community for ages.
  • V-MODA Crossfade M-80 was very recommended when I was looking for a nice pair myself. The build quality is superb and so is the audio.
  • Sennheiser HD 600 is one of the most well knows and well recommended pair of open ear headphones out there and they are for a reason.

A tip is to check out a few big reviews on Head-Fi
(full size) to find a pair you'll probably like (but remeber to take peoples personal opinions with a grain of salt). I find that finding a personal pair is half the fun.

The horrible (and wonderful) thing though, is that there is not "one size fits all" when it comes to headphones. The best you can do is get out there and try them out. You should also realize that a nice pair of headphones is only half of the equation. If you're only using them with your iphone, you're missing out.

    Happy hunting!

First: Woo Random Acts of Kindness! Congratulations on getting Sub-Reddit of the Day! You make the world a better place. :D

Second: Oooh, a gift for $30 or less? Well.. if you insist..

I own three laptops, and none of them work properly. They're all pretty old by computer standards - one is even pre-wireless Internet, which probably makes it a candidate for a museum of some sort - but, if I had all three up and running the way they should be, it would make my life so much easier.

Here's my humble request, in order of priority, as I realize I may be stretching the limits of the budget.

My son loves to play on the computer. I basically gave him my IBM Thinkpad (vintage 2005), loaded up with games, but after a few months the power supply broke down. Too much manhandling from the kiddo, methinks. There are a number of important work docs on the hard drive I need to reclaim, as well. But this problem can be solved!

I use my HP Pavilion (vintage 2008) every day for work and play. For the past year it's been hooked up to an external monitor after the inverter went bad. Now it's much less mobile, and on top of that, I'm arm-wrestling my kids for the chance to use it. A new inverter would fix the monitor problem..

Finally, back in the Dark Ages, my ex bought me a Compaq Presario (vintage 2002). If I had it up and running again, this would be my novel-writing machine: no distractions and a keyboard that can take a beating. All it needs is a power source.

Thanks so much for your consideration. I appreciate your time. And Merry Christmas / happy winter gift-giving to you and yours!
