Okay, info dump! (Some of this might sound…familiar, but there are some important distinctions, particularly in the pre-order bonuses!)
Rock Band Rivals — Coming October 2016
Okay, so pre-order bonuses!
There’s a lot going on, so I made this handy-dandy chart:
http://i.imgur.com/3aMKzzz.jpg
We’ll be running through the first show in Rockudrama this afternoon on Twitch, starting at 4pm! Tune in to http://twitch.tv/harmonix to check it out (And see a peek at some in-progress new UI!). /u/HMXCrisis and I will be around to answer questions as usual, and we’ll also be hosting an AMA here at 2pm ET on Thursday to dedicate some time for any lingering questions you may have!
If you'd like to pre-order on Amazon, please consider using these links to support AbleGamers!
Xbox One Jaguar Bundle

PS4 Band Kit
It most likely just works with Rock Band 2 & 3. But realistically RB3 is all you need. You can load up to 1000 songs on the game via a SD card up to 32gb (or use your emunand if you know what your doing with a modded wii).
Let's go though it step by step of what I think you should do. We'll leave the drums while last.
Firstly the mics. Rock Band 3 supports up to 3 at one time, RB2/Guitar Hero support only 1. The Wii ONLY supports the basic logitech USB mics, they are multi-platform and a dime dozen on eBay and can be had for under $5 each. Here's link for a valid eBay search.
Next the Guitars. I'd recommend getting 2 Guitar Hero World Tour/Band Hero/5 guitars as they are quite common, well built, work with all Guitar Hero games as well as Rock Band 2/3 and do not require dongles as they use the nunchuck port on wii remotes.
If you want to pull the trigger now, the Red GH5 models are your best bet as they are the newest of this style of 'axe' and have improved touch sensors for slider (for solos on GH games World Tour and newer). I've took the liberty of finding you 2 these that are complete 1/2 ($30 for the pair).
So far that's $45 for 3 mics and 2 guitars (possibly even $40 if you shop around on the mics).
Now onto the drums. Firstly buy a RB3 Midi module and a GH5/WOR/BH Drum module. I've found one of each for you at a good price (about $40 for the pair). These two adaptors will let you use a real ekit with every Guitar Hero game World Tour or newer as well as Rock Band 2/3. (Only RB1 and the track packs would be off limits, but those are pretty crap on the Wii anyways).
At this point I'd recommend saving up for the Alesis Nitro drum kit at $300 new. It's great value and very popular with the RB community if you ever needed support with it on here.
For drumming the in the mean time I've found you a band hero kit that's incomplete but only missing the adaptor I linked earlier to make it work for $35. Not ideal but would serve you well whilst you saved up for an electronic kit.
So to sum up, a full band kit for about $120 with all the equipment required to upgrade to a real kit at a later date. Hope this helps :)
You can create setlists, and he'd just need to whack the green after each song to start the next song in the list. Drums are great for kids. They seem to pick it up very quickly at a young age. You can start with autokick on easy and let him move up as he's ready.
The drums are linked are the ones that shipped with RB4 and are known for having problems. I'd recommend RB2 or 3 drums instead. The RB3 cymbals are also pretty good. I have a Beatles set (essentially RB2 drums) with RB3 cymbals on my Xbox 360 and they still work great.
Here are the RB3 pro drums:
https://www.amazon.com/Rock-Band-Wireless-Pro-Drum-Pro-Cymbals-PlayStation/dp/B0040795IC/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1479508298&sr=8-3&keywords=ps3+drums
Hopefully you can nab them cheaper on eBay or Craigslist.
Dunno if you're still looking, dunno if you're in the US, but Amazon is running a couple deals on the original (NOT Rivals) band in a box bundle for XB1 for Cyber Monday:
https://www.amazon.com/Rock-Band-Band-Box-Bundle/dp/B00Z9HS664/ (black guitar)
https://www.amazon.com/Rock-Band-Band-Box-Software-Bundle/dp/B01C6YT8EQ/ (white guitar)
After that, grab the digital version of Rivals from the XB1 marketplace (I think it's like 10 bucks right now?) and you'll be up to date, software-wise
Edit: Hope you saw this and got one, because it looks like the deals are gone now.
I did not realize I failed to respond to this beyond that. I apologize for that.
In terms of capturing game footage, you need go for a capture card. I would personally recommend one that is PCIe-based if possible. Could be any of these (all are Amazon US listings, check your local country or elsewhere if applicable):
If you are on a laptop, these obviously won't work, so you are stuck with this.
Then (assuming you have a webcam), in order to reconcile game footage with you and your friends playing, using a streaming software like OBS (or other variants like OBS Studio and Streamlabs OBS) means that you won't have to go back and do it in a video editing software like VEGAS Pro or Adobe Premiere, but it's good to have those to splice and export videos in the preferred format for places like YouTube.
I can answer that first question for you. Amazon has a bundle that comes with the new blue Jaguar guitar, Rock Band 4 with a Rivals DLC code included, a mail-in coupon for a free microphone (while supplies last) and the 12 pre-order bonus songs. It's $89.99 or $71.99 if you have Amazon Prime. There's also the $199 band-in-a-box bundle ($159.99 with Prime) with all the new instruments from PDP plus Rock Band 4 with the Rivals DLC code and all 12 pre-order bonus songs.
Replacement pedal deals

Microphone that works for both PS4 and Xbox One
http://www.amazon.com/Wii-U-Microphone-Nintendo/dp/B009AFLXZM/ref=sr_1_1?s=videogames&ie=UTF8&qid=1453650810&sr=1-1&keywords=microphone+wii+u
Now, the question is if you are Xbox or PS family. Xbox One game + adapter hard to get under $80, PS4 you can find for $40.
So if you're PS4 it's $65+shipping. Most of the concerns that people have right now is exports and legacy dlc entitlements. RB3 Export works just fine(another $15 though). RB1 is rolling out and the other soon follows(except Beatles).
I would wait until all exports are out if the main set list is your concern and you're not willing to dump another $40 for DLC out of the gates. I'll also wait to see if any sweet band bundle deals comes out. The RB4 guitar is easily the best guitar made imo.
Although I play it daily, practicing those drums at least 30 minutes each day.
You need to understand what the cables are for.
The MIDI OUT cable is to be connected to your device's MIDI OUT - this is where the device is sending out signals from. The MIDI IN cable is to be connected to your device's MIDI IN - this is where a software or another MIDI device send signals INTO your device. Most MIDI keyboards will have both IN and OUT. The RB3 keytar only does MIDI OUT. So you connect your adapter's MIDI OUT cable to it. Then you connect the USB end to the PC. You might need specific drivers for your adapter.
Then you need software that is capable of accepting MIDI input over USB, and set it to do that. REAPER will accept it, that's the only one I've used. Then you can play on the keytar and record in REAPER or play back the audio as you're playing.
Note that you can't play something on REAPER or another software and send to the keytar, since the keytar doesn't have MIDI IN.
You can also use this method to connect to even a cell phone. This is an old video of mine showing the process: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oIoik4aLByE
For reference I use this adapter: http://www.amazon.com/M-Audio-Midisport-Uno-MIDI-Interface/dp/B00007JRBM
For the drummer, you'll want to get a boom mic stand. I got one for $20 at guitar center. Those can bend at the almost 90 degree angle you need to get it in the drummers face, but they work for standing up also!
Edit 2: Doesn't come with mic clip. Buy that one the other guy suggested. The Q & A led me astray.
Edit: This would be perfect for your needs and comes with a clip that I think would fit Rock Band mics: On Stage Stands MS7701B Tripod Boom Microphone Stand https://www.amazon.com/dp/B000978D58/ref=cm_sw_r_tw_awd_YvfEwbDDJ4FM3
They had something like that in RB3. If you had the Green Day Rockband Export (or I guess just having Welcome to Paradise would work too) there was a goal you could beat that would unlock this guitar for use in game.
Amazon has them new: https://www.amazon.com/Rock-Band-Track-Vol2-Xbox-360/dp/B001F04T8I
You can always try finding a used one and hoping the code is still valid, but if it's new you should be good.
I know the Metal Track Pack has three delisted songs as well (Nazareth's "Hair of the Dog", I Mother Earth's "Levitate", and Hawkwind's "Master of the Universe") if you're looking for tracks you can't get any other way.
Heh. Well then.
I'm apparently blind. Sorry about that.
Edit: This is what I have: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B000978D58/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_AiXGxbB7X7NN3
Don't know why I didn't post it sooner.
Edit: Edit: yeah, I'm just going to shut up now. :P This is the same link the other guy posted. Lol good luck searching for a mic stand though!
Here's the set up my wife and I use so we both can play with headphones. The TV only has optical out so we need a few adapters and run the sound right from the TV.

Works great and we control our own volume.
I think people are down voting because you spelled mic "mike" (and they're being pedantic to a self proclaimed newbie like jerks.).
Any mic stand should work, but I've seen this recommended for its convenient guitar stand use: http://www.amazon.com/Universal-Guitar-Mic-Stand-Xbox-360/dp/B003NSLFXM
Happy birthday!
Rock Band and Guitar Hero drums work differently, and aren't cross-compatible. So if it's a GH pedal it won't work.
Rock Band drums from RB2 on have a black drum port in addition to the orange port. You can try the pedals in that, to check that it's really the pedal that's the problem, and not the port. The black port only works during songs, not in the menus, so you have to play a song to test it.
Edit: Looks like this Guitar Hero pedal. This Rock Band pedal looks the same, except for the stripe color, so I'd guess the stripe being purple is important.
Only problem for me is I own a 1 ms ASUS monitor that works great already, BUT, I wanted something bigger, so I purchased a 27inch 1 ms monitor by ASUS and The input lag is quite noticeably different. I can’t hit any solos like I can on my smaller one. I’ve been tweeking with the calibration settings for a couple of days now and I still cannot find the sweet spot. Notes are either not getting hit, or even when It does seem like I’m hitting notes okay, There is a large amount of ghosting going on with notes passing the hit window, and that really messes with my head when I’m playing. I bought the ASUS VG248QP, it is a 75 HZ 27” monitor with 1 ms response time.
https://www.amazon.com/Asus-27IN-1920X1080-1MS-VP278QG/dp/B0768N21RY
You can also get a 5-pack of RHCP songs with specific RB3 bundles. Good luck with that, though. Your chances of finding one of those brand new at a reasonable price are essentially nonexistent.
https://www.amazon.com/Universal-Guitar-Mic-Stand-Xbox-360/dp/B003NSLFXM/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1482868319&sr=8-2&keywords=rock+band+guitar+stand
This one is the best for me because of all the guitars I have, as it holds 4 at a time. Its a little expensive at $50 but i have bought it before at 20$, well worth it
You can buy a few yourself for rather inexpensive prices on Amazon. eBay has good prices on some as well. Country 1 and 2 are more expensive though.
Rock Band Track Pack Vol. 2
Rock Band Metal Track Pack
AC/DC Live: Rock Band Track Pack
You can use a wireless RB guitar for clone hero. Just make sure to get a genuine Microsoft controller adapter for it if you want the wireless route.
Link - https://www.amazon.com/Microsoft-Authentic-Wireless-Receiver-Windows/dp/B00FAS1WDG
You need to buy a physical disc, which comes with a code. You can insert the disc in the respective console to play the AC/DC songs and nothing else. However, you can also redeem the code to export the songs to any other RB titles.
https://www.amazon.com/AC-DC-Live-Rock-Track-Playstation/dp/B001KAMZ8E
More specifically, this is what you need. Appearently, Amazon is only selling used copies so the codes might already be used.
I have anti vibe sticks, they're amazing. Definitely try them! Zildjian makes them - https://www.amazon.com/Avedis-Zildjian-Company-Z5BA-Drumsticks/dp/B078LX18R9/ref=sr_1_3?s=musical-instruments&ie=UTF8&qid=1538127883&sr=1-3&keywords=zildjian+antivibe
Do these not work? I know you would have 2 buy 2 sets (and have an extra) but better than $125!
https://smile.amazon.com/Rock-Double-Cymbal-Expansion-Xbox-360/dp/B001G56I86/ref=sr_1_1_sspa?keywords=rock+band+cymbals&qid=1558060207&s=gateway&sr=8-1-spons&psc=1&smid=A1MTMP1LZL4FAB
This is the cable I use. While I don’t remember if I’ve tried it with the RB keyboard, I have gotten it to work with the Pro Guitar and a different midi keyboard. It’s worked on both Mac and PC, so it should hopefully fit your needs.
Also wanted to mention that if you buy a RB4 bundle make sure you buy a Rock Band Rivals bundle since they have improved instruments and also include the Rivals expansion.
The guitar bundle and band bundle are even currently on sale for 50% off.
There's optical which is supposed to be better than HDMI, I just don't have anything to connect it to at the moment.
Now that I look, this thing is cheap enough and sound like it's what I should get: http://amzn.com/B005DIRI6I
Okay noted! Well here buy this then:
https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B01IANW0HY/ref=mp_s_a_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1482205538&sr=8-1&pi=SY200_QL40&keywords=rock+band+rivals
This comes with a brand new guitar and the Rock Band Rivals expansion which is typically $30. There is no better deal available.
Amazon has plenty of all 3 band-in-a-box bundles.
Black/White Stratocaster Band-In-A-Box Bundle
White Stratocaster Band-In-A-Box Bundle
Rivals Jaguar Band-In-A-Box Bundle
I would personally reccomend buying a bundle with a Black or White stratocaster, even though you get the rivals expansion with the Jaguar bundle, the jaguar is a peice of trash because it's impossible to activate starpower easily, and the whammy is terrible if you play with it inverted and use your pinky to whammy like I do.

Green Day used for $6. Xbox. I’m sure they have PlayStation versions also
Be sure and click other buying options.
I found it pretty easily-in the first search when typing it in Google-https://www.amazon.com/Mad-Catz-Rock-Band-PRO-Guitar-Bundle/dp/B006603V4U
I bought this stand which was pretty cheap, and although no clip is pictured, I'm fairly certain mine came with one in the box.
You will need to buy [this] (https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00409SOEG/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_0qqyzbSC3S0ZJ), a [MIDI cable] (https://www.amazon.com/dp/B000068NTU/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_DxqyzbANWA7P9), and your ekit of choice. Personally I use an [Alesis Nitro] (https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0187KO8X4/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_Ouqyzb3MWEEWY) because I had budgeted about $450 overall (I also bought a nice [drum throne] (https://www.amazon.com/dp/B000UJE6UG/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_5wqyzbNYC90S3)
). I'm using the $450 because on Xbox One I also had to buy the $30 adapter.
Yes you'd need a kick trigger, there are cheaper ones like http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B001R2RA4E but IMO nothing beats the KD-9, it is mesh not rubber http://www.amazon.com/Roland-kd-9-KD-9/dp/B004KPB9X8

Buy either new- back of the manual has a code for exporting the track pack into your digital library. Then, the songs will be entitled to your account. These codes can only be used once, so ensure you buy a brand new and sealed copy. The disc can also be used as a standalone, if you don't want to use the songs digitally (therefor you could buy used).
Shoot, I'm sorry, it turns out the PS3 version of the drum kit is $330: http://www.amazon.com/Rock-Wireless-Pro-Drum-Pro-Cymbals-PlayStation-3/dp/B0040795IC
It's the Xbox version that's $199. Sorry if I got your hopes up. :(
The cymbals can be purchased separately, but I don't think you can find the cymbal-less drum kits new anymore. You may be able to find them used, though. You don't have to have or use the cymbals (they're not required for the basic drumming mode), but they do make drumming more realistic, especially when you are ready to try Pro Drums mode.
I already bought these and they turned out to be the same exact part with different labels:
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B005DIRI6I?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_detailpage_o09_s00
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00EDSQ45K?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_detailpage_o07_s00
They definitely helped some with my setup, but not enough without a patch.
Hopefully this will make it usable.

Hey guys, I think there's a mistake in the PlayStation Guitar Bundle on Amazon. Says "Officially licensed by Microsoft for PlayStation."
If you're good enough to notice the notes you hit get dropped, you're gonna upset pretty quick. They've improved since release, but they're still terrible. I'm almost failing songs with lots of red/yellow or bass pedal because the kit can't handle the songs. I struggle to gold star 0 and 1 difficulty songs because of the dropped notes.
If I have to pay more money for the fix or for a better kit, I will never buy another thing from them.
Buy Rock Band 3 and forget this exists for now. If there is another release in the future... maybe it will be better. For now, stay away. I literally bought a PS4 JUST to have Rockband 4... but I could not be more disappointed.
Edit: I'm a drummer and don't care about the guitar. I don't hear many complaints about the guitar anymore.
Edit 2: lmao, who are the turds that keep going and down-voting all the negative information on the game. Is this how you justify the purchase? I bought it and I accept that it was a waste of my money.

I haven't played in years, but just saw this bundle for $49.99CAD on amazon.ca. I ordered, but it's out of stock, is it bad enough that I should cancel that order?
