Right now I'm reading The Talk-Funny Girl, which so far is very interesting.
I also love young adult fiction, I just finished the Maze Runner trilogy and Delirium and Pandemonium, which were all great beach reads.
I would be very, very cautious of any religious organization that compels you to formally "join" it (complete with secret ceremonies) and forces you to tithe to be a full-fledged member. It seems to me that true religion is transparent rather than secretive. The LDS organization is anything but transparent. Have you read Jon Krakauer's book Under the Banner of Heaven? If not, I highly recommend it (the Amazon reviews are also a good resource) for a very thorough and unbiased history of the LDS movement. This is another recent article about the LDS that brings up some pretty troubling dealings on the business end of things.
I spent several years out in the American West living very close to a large LDS community and I saw a lot of very upsetting things go on within that community. Most of them had to do with the mistreatment of women and children, but a lot was simply cronyism and manipulation. It is a community that works very hard to keep appearances up to "outsiders", but they weren't able to hide everything.
I'm sure you are considering this conversion very carefully and I don't mean to undermine or disrespect your personal beliefs in any way, but I'd really encourage to you spend a great deal of time reading accounts from people (especially women) who have left the LDS church before you decided to join. Their recruitment can be quite intense, but it does not tell the whole truth behind the organization.
In the context of this community, I will also say that is is next to impossible to be a feminist and a Mormon at the same time. The ideologies conflict that violently.
OK, I will shut the fuck up now. Best to you in whatever choices you make in your life!
Have you ever tried "Nad's?" They are at-home heat free wax strips. They work pretty well.

I'm part werewolf so I use these alot :)
Woman at Point Zero by Nawal El Saadawi a great novel by a great Egyptian Feminist.
Recently finished: A visit from the Goon Squad by Jennifer Egan -- read it all in about two sittings, this book is amazing!
On now: The Art of Fielding by Chad Harbach -- really enjoying it thus far, and it is not what I expected.
Next up: Against the Day by Thomas Pynchon -- Pynchon is my favourite author and I've been saving this one for a while because of how long it is.
I recently read Cunt: A Declaration of Independence
by Inga Muscio and I fell in love with it. Super empowering.
This one has a pretty good listing of angels. There's also this on someone's website, and I do recommend the Book of Enoch.
This is super cute.
My phone case has a slot for 3 cards, and this is similar.
This is also decent.
I have super thick hair too! And it's stick straight, I think mostly because it's so heavy. Mine is shoulder-length right now, but it was a bit longer in the fall -- I cut it at about spring break time, and I've kind of been growing it back out ever since.
I know just what you mean about your hair not wanting to stay in a ponytail because it's too heavy, but if your hair is anything like mine, half the problem is actually that your hair is too straight, which allows the ponytail holders to slip. If you want to try ponytails again, maybe go for the ones with the little rubber nubs on them, like these, and/or double up on your ponytail holders. Also, Scunci has a line of hair products specifically for people with thick hair now, like this and this, which I have and use constantly. It's got a little bit of the rubber nubbly stuff on the teeth of the claw to provide traction, plus the teeth go in deeper, and it opens wider.
I ordered these just recently because they're the smallest pepper spray I could find, and they're excellent! With shipping it's about $20, but you get two, and the reviews on them are good as far as spray width and pepperiness and whatnot. The key ring is small enough to actually wear as a ring, too, so you can slip it on and hold it in your fist if you go for a run or if you just want to have it handy!
Oh! You just jogged my memory, too!
Flight of the Goose by Lesley Thomas is about an Inupiaq woman in Alaska and an ecologist. Absolutely amazing.
My main field is neuroscience, so I want to recommend you everything by Patricia Churchland, but here's a nice starting place: Braintrust: What Neuroscience Tells Us About Morality
The Game of Thrones books (finally!) and an autobiography of Alan Turing called The Enigma, which is taking forever to get through, but is very interesting nonetheless.
Does she like to read? I often recommend "The Gift of Fear" by Gavin de Becker. It's kind of a life changer, and lays out how to better protect yourself in a no nonsense, very clear way.
You could offer her a copy, say you thought she might like to read it since she's going to be out on her own now, and use the date rape thing as an example of why. That way, the date rape thing sneaks in while you're giving her the book, and then the advice is coming from the book, not you. If that makes sense.
If you're going to read The Tale of Genji, go Royall Tyler or go home. It's the most recent and is more faithful to the original text than Seidensticker and Whaley.
The Quick and the Dead by Joy Williams
House of the Spirits by Isabel Allende
The Pillow Book of Sei Shonagon
Borderlands/La Frontera by Gloria Anzaldua
Housekeeping by Marilynne Robinson
