Hmmmm yes. One more. The GreaseNinja will make all your chain lubrications a breeze. I use that with Motul Factory Chain Wax.

For even easier chain cleaning once every 1k miles like I do, get a Tirox 360 brush and a chemical-resistant spraybottle and fill it with kerosene. Kerosene is amazing. It doesn't damage paint or anything and is totally safe on your chain, wipes away wax and lube fling in seconds, it's great, just make sure you have ventilation so it evaporates away quickly. Put the bike up on rear stand, put an oil catch pan under the chain, throw on some disposable work gloves, wrap the 360 around the chain, turn the rear and slide the 360 along the chain with sprays of kerosene. After some scrubs, wipe it down with a rag'll you throw away later. Your chain will shine like new in about 2 minutes. Let it sit for 5 minutes to have the kerosene evaporate, and then wax, let it sit for 5 minutes for the wax to set, and you're done. Clean, lubricated chain in 10 minutes.

Stole all of this directly from Canyon Chasers and they were absolutely fucking right about the GreaseNinja, the Tirox 360 and the kerosene. Chain cleaning went from chore, to breeze.

certainly.

  1. wash bike from to to bottom, after that use a clay bar on the paint! cant stress that enough. It removes all the embedded contaminants that the wash doesn't remove.https://www.amazon.com/Meguiars-Smooth-Surface-Clay-Kit/dp/B00063X7KG

  2. grab your buffing wheel (witch I used) or apply by hand some compound this is what I used https://www.amazon.com/Meguiars-G17216-Ultimate-Compound-15-2/dp/B001O7PNNM?th=1 use medium pressure with this, its super easy to put on and off. Just follow the instructions.

  3. after your done compounding the paint apply a polish, let it dry to a haze and wipe off. I used something like this https://www.amazon.com/Chemical-Guys-GAP-106-16-Polish-Sealant/dp/B004LPAP2I/ref=sr_1_10?s=automotive&ie=UTF8&qid=1486936548&sr=1-10&keywords=car+polish

  4. and final step, apply your wax to protect all your hard work, same application as the polish https://www.amazon.com/Meguiars-Ultimate-Liquid-Wax-oz/dp/B004HCM9H4/ref=sr_1_4?s=automotive&ie=UTF8&qid=1486936678&sr=1-4&keywords=car+wax

  5. also clay bar your wheels if they have a clear coat on them then apply a wax, don't get too crazy on them, but get the protection on so they stay shiny

  6. in between washings/ waxings use a quick detail spray

also see r/AutoDetailing for the noob questions/ info. Its a huge help. so is Youtube! hope that points you in the right direction!

I went to the iron pony in Ohio recently and purchased this ram mounthttps://www.amazon.com/dp/B006X387ZS?psc=1&smid=A2XENS8LQP1A6D I really didn't have much knowledge of these but I figured there was a place I could mount it. It turns out that theres really not, i moved the clutch and brake levers all the way in an attempt to gain a little room for the mount and I probably could have squeezed it in with a Dremel but I really didn't want to do that.

Anyway after fighting the U bolt version for about 45 min i eventually decided that i was just going to mount it on my mirror, which...worked, and honestly worked very well. I tightened the mirror screws about a quarter turn more to ensure tightness and mounted this mount. It works very well. it doesnt vibrate much and its almost at eye level which is really nice.

Im only posting this in case someone was wondering which mount to purchase. I'm not telling to to buy this mount this is only what ive discovered using this. hopefully this gets archived until someone eles has this question.

  1. Get JIS screwdrivers if you don't have them already. The carbs are brass and it's easy to strip the screws.
    https://www.amazon.com/Hozan-JIS-4-JIS-Screwdriver-3rd/dp/B00A7WAHTU/ref=mp_s_a_1_2?crid=13IVJB32CWN3L&keywords=jus+screwdriver&qid=1555384541&s=gateway&sprefix=jis+&sr=8-2

  2. YouTube Shane Conley. He's an automotive teacher and posts some incredibly informative videos

  3. for the valves, finding the right feeler gauge was a pain. Here's what I landed on.
    https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B0039LBDK8/ref=ppx_yo_mob_b_old_o0_img?ie=UTF8&psc=1
    Here's the shim kit
    https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B000UKM6LG/ref=ppx_yo_mob_b_old_o0_img?ie=UTF8&psc=1
measure the shim before you put it in. You will be doing extra work if you replace a shim only to discover it's the wrong size after install when you're double checking everything.

  4. I've got a post around here from me doing shims, I'll try to find it because there's other good stuff in there.
Found the link, looks like I got most of it. There's other good stuff though.
    https://www.reddit.com/r/SVRiders/comments/an7gab/you_guys_rock/?utm_medium=android_app&utm_source=share

  5. drop the radiator before doing shims, it's so much easier.

  6. if you have manual tension adjusters, grab a set of socket extensions and flare nut crows feet
    https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B0002SRJF4?psc=1&ref=ppx_pop_mob_b_pd_title

  7. measure and record everything, draw your own pictures and diagrams

  8. telescoping magnet and good lighting because you WILL drop something, somewhere

  9. check float height since you're in there already but you may not need to clean much on the carbs if there's not a power issue. The bowl gaskets do leak sometimes, might as well replace those. Definitely check the float needle.

  10. when cleaning, remember the needles are brass which is soft. Don't abuse them because they're easy to scratch.

    Edit

  11. grab a torque wrench for putting it back together and be very careful not to cross thread, the aluminum in the head is easy to rip out if you over torque or cross thread. Especially the bolts for the valve covers.

For anyone who is interested, I used VHT Gold Caliper Paint.

I kept the brake lines connected but removed the calipers and pads. Then washed/scrubbed them with soap water, followed by a wipe down with denatured alcohol to remove any oils.

Then I masked everything off, as you can see in the first pic. After three coats I was happy with how they looked. Next came a heat gun to cure the paint. About 20 minutes on each caliper.

Reassembled and was done! I'm more than happy with the stock brakes on the SV but wanted a bit more color. I'm really pleased with how they turned out!

First off, do not be afraid. I just did mine for the first time a little over a month and a half ago. All you really need is a socket set, new valve cover seals(just do it. makes things way easier), black RTV silicon, moly paste, good set of blade type feeler gauges, and this shim set. A in/lb torque wrench would be ideal but i did mine with out it and i have put on about 2K miles since and have had absolutely no issues. DOUBLE CHECK YOUR WORK(such as turning the motor by hand a couple times after reassembly to push the oil out of the shim buckets and so you get a more accurate valve clearance measurement). go slow and zen that shit. it is hectic at times, very relaxing other times, and when you are done it feels amazing.

Second, this link is for all the 03+ manuals. I just studied that manuals, printed out all the pages referencing each step and part (taking off gas tank, air box, valve covers, cam shafts, timing chain tensioners, etc) and just put everything back together the way i took it apart.

enjoy.

The rear ones look pretty much like the set I got off of amazon, which double as lift points (edit: spools I think?) for a rear wheel lift and fit perfectly:

Car Rover H4 Projector Lens Mini Lossless HID Bi xenon Hi/Lo Retrofit HID Bulb Built In 6000K With 2 Ballast and 1 Harness Realy https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01E79JMMQ/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_tai_7g9fAbDB9RVSF

I bought this H4 bulb projector set for my naked, so I can do an easy projector conversion, but the projector is too long to fit in the 7” housing. Basically it is a projector that directly replaces the h4 bulb with a projector with no modification of the housing. I saw your post and decided to give it a shot in my 01 SVS housing and it fits surprisingly. I don’t know how the plastic lens will affect the projector but the fit into the housing nicely. I haven’t tested them on the road, not can I, because my SVS is my parts bike. But here’s another route you can go if you want to. Just another option if you want.

Mine are both h4 though, harness and all...

I am a big fan of these mirrors, only $20. I have not had any issues with rattling or movement while riding. They also look pretty sweet and give a pretty decent view behind you.

So I drilled two holes in top triple to fit these 7/8'' universal risers. Be sure to use lock nuts and Red Locktite when fixing the risers to the top triple clamp. I used this 7/8'' handlebar. The Brake lines were bought used from an 04-06 SV650 which came stock with a longer brake line. Since my bike is an 06 SV650S that brake line fit my bike. The brake line is easy to find used on ebay or you can buy new if you feel uncomfortable about that. The Clutch Cable and Throttle Cable both need to be longer as well, so I bought this Clutch Cable, Motion Pro 04-0331 and this Throttle Cable, Motion Pro 04-0316. I have novice mechanical skills and it took me 3 hours in total. Not too hard in my opinion. What I did though is bought a spare
top triple tree clamp and drilled into that one so that I could ride my bike while preparing for this modification.

The headlight is available here for 26 dollars:

OXMART 7'' LED Headlight Halo Angle Eyes DRL Light Front Projector Headlight, Fog Passing Turn Signals, Super Bright and Waterproof https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07LFZXJJJ/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_1sFpDb7SSE79X

You will need to also get this for 56 dollars:

SKTYANTS 7" 7 Inch Headlights... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B073PXW2YC?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share

Most of the parts in the second item will not be used. It takes all of 20 minutes to complete. I did need parts of the original headlight as well.
