Thanks for your response! All of the information you gave matches up with what I've found so far. I have two questions:

  1. What do the spring-loaded tabs in the sockets look like? My plan is to 3D print an adapter that will fit on the end of an IKEA TUPPLUR roller shade and also into the sockets in the vehicle. The housing would be rigid from end to end across the shade and would fit down into the sockets, held in place just by friction/fit of the adapters and the sockets. To remove it, I was planning on just being able to lift the retracted cover with attached adapters straight up... but if I could get the geometry to fit with the tabs on either end it would be more secure.

  2. In regards to the short rear seat cover attachment, I've seen that some newer models have a slit in the fabric and attach to the metal posts of the headrests. Is this a desirable feature that should be included in my design? I assume it is to allow the seats to move/recline independently -- which would be an improvement over a rigid bar that wouldn't move with reclined seats and definitely wouldn't move independently with reclined seats. Any insight you can provide on that would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks again!

I apologize in advance for this long post. None of these are "must gets", but they are what I got for my 2016 Premium forester. I'm posting this for my own future reference as well as to help some people who are wondering what accessories might be good for their new forester. I highly recommend ordering from Jackie from Annapolis Subaru @ 443-837-1422 as she can get you some good prices on the subaru accessories as well as WeatherTech products! I saved on WeatherTech shipping costs (~$20) by ordering through Jackie and the warranty is the same as if I had bought them through their website.

Please note that some of these accessory links are for my specific car year, model and configuration. I have a 2016 Premium forester without eyesight (affects the Covercraft/heatshield sunshade - they also have eyesight compatible sunshades!).

Also, I personally didn't get my windows tinted, but I think that is something that you should seriously consider doing :)

I won't ever go back to not having an amp and sub. It really adds so much depth that the stock stereo lacked. It really makes everything sound better, podcasts, country, EDM.

This is the sub I bought.

I've never had a sub in my car, but I never knew what I was missing either. If you can afford the trunk space and like your music loud, I recommend it.

For older Foresters that didn't come with either Bluetooth or Back-Up Camera and you're not going to upgrade the Head Unit, then look at these.

Not black, but clear. I installed these with no issues and have been great.
