Everyone keeps talking about the Miele, and you think it's BS. Then you buy one, and you never look back.

I have really terrible allergies to cats. I try to avoid them, but everyone I live with owns cats. It's terrible. Every time I would vacuum, I would get literally ill from all the dander and dust microparticles being blown back up in the air. The air was cleaner when I didn't vacuum. To be fair, I did have a bagless.

The place I'm currently in is predominantly hardwood floors, with rug runners and the bedrooms all have medium pile carpet. There are also three levels on this place. There are two long-haired cats. And let me tell you, this Miele Topaz changed my life.

Air quality is important to me, so I went with the S6 series instead of the S2 series. The S2 series still has great air quality control, but the S6 and S8 series are CLOSED vacuum systems. All air goes through the bag (which is a filter) and a secondary exhaust filter. They have arguably the best air filtration system on the market.

Since you have mostly rugs, you technically don't need the electric powerhead. This means you can get a cheaper vacuum. However, I really do recommend getting an electric powerhead now, in case you ever do decide to get carpets. The Miele's have a 7 year warranty on the motor and shell, and are tested to last 20 years so you'll have this vacuum for a while. And while you can always upgrade the powerhead, these vacuums either come with the powerhead attachment or you they don't. You can't get an electric powerhead if you buy a vacuum that's not built to handle it.

So which vacuum? Well, if air quality isn't supremely important you could go with an S2000 series. However, if you're like me, you might want an S6 or S8 series. The S6 series is similar to the S8 but they are compact. So this is great for a place with a ton of stairs, but the bag will fill up quicker. The attachments are also stored on the outside of the machine instead of internal compartments. Personally, I haven't had an issue with the bags filling up too quick but some people want a larger size. I got the Topaz model, and it runs you about $750.00.

If you want a bigger vacuum the S2 and S8 series are the same size. I only did serious research into the S8 series. The Miele Cat and Dog model is neat because it comes with an upholstery brush that is wicked for removing pet hair. The Kona and Marin are also awesome choices.

The power on these cleaners is absolutely mind-blowing. I actually took a photo the other day where the cats had a fight on the carpet, and there was cat hair literally covering the thing. Within just one run of my vacuum, it picked up everything. I am constantly amazed by how much more my vacuum picks up than the older models. And it's QUIET. You can carry on a normal conversation when the thing is running.

The Topaz comes with a Parquet floor cleaner - the bristles are super super soft and excellent for hardwood floors. Make sure your vacuum either comes with that head or you purchase one. And don't worry about whether the cleaner comes with a HEPA filter - you can always upgrade that later. It's not worth buying the more expensive vacuum solely for that feature. Definitely try to find a dealer around you - they'll often give you free bags with a vacuum purchase.

Hope that helps!

If this is true then something like this would be perfect for you. http://www.amazon.com/Electrolux-Sanitaire-SC3700A-Canister-Cleaning/dp/B00R0MIZE4/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1459006789&sr=8-2&keywords=sc3700. This is my favorite bare floor canister that has ever been made. As of right now it only uses Cloth HEPA bags which would be good for you because of allergies. I've used this in my shop ever since it came out and I absolutely love it. I also have a customer who owns a commercial cleaning company that buys these off me like crazy because he loves them so much. They're quiet, they eliminate dust, they're extremely powerful, and they don't cost very much. Here's a little video that goes over most of its features. https://youtu.be/PJhfPosqvfI.

If you're looking for an upright vacuum that quiet and powerful I would recommend http://www.amazon.com/Panasonic-MC-UG729-Upright-Vacuum-Cleaner/dp/B008LA4F0M/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1459007662&sr=8-1&keywords=mc-ug729. This upright has 2 motors, a hepa filter, aluminum telescopic pole, a 40 foot cord, large barefloor tool, barefloor and carpet settings, and is designed to be extremely quiet. I actually use this model to clean my house. I can't find a video review of this one though, maybe I'll have to make one in the future.

*Light weight and Quality don't exactly go together when you're looking for a good vacuum.

I would suggest the C1 Delphi. It has the basic electric brush (overkill for rugs, but great if you ever have a place with low-pile carpets and is upgradable to the 228 or 236 brush if you have hi-pile carpets). It comes with the Parquet Twister head which is essential for hardwood floors and is orders of magnitude better than the multihead (I have both). It's not fancy. It doesn't have the foot-operated suction adjustment switches, and I think it doesn't come with the HEPA filter (although you can buy one for it). Because you have a furry friend, I recommend getting the Handheld Turbobrush.

All of that said, go to your local Miele dealer and see what they have. There are special in-store-only models that are usually a better deal than what you can find online. But the C1 Delphi is where I would start.

Alright, so in this case I would really recommend the Miele Cat & Dog Canister. There are two options, one for $650 and one for $999.

It comes with everything you'd possibly need. It has the upholstery tool which you just mentioned. It has a great hardwood floor tool for your barefloor cleaning.

Should you move to a home with carpets or decide to buy large area rugs for your current home, it also comes with a powerful carpet head to tackle those jobs.

The warranty on this unit is amazing too so you'll have peace of mind for years.

$650 version: https://www.amazon.com/Miele-Classic-Canister-Vacuum-Cleaner/dp/B072JGWYDG/ref=sr_1_5?ie=UTF8&qid=1522610587&sr=8-5&keywords=miele+cat+and+dog

The just under $1k version: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00R43I490?ref=emc_b_5_i

And if you are interested in the higher end version, I'd be glad to discuss the differences between the two.

Self Propelled vacuums aren't even that great anyways. Really awkward and jerky.

If you are comfortable owning two vacuums, I might suggest the Eureka 1934 Upright and the Eureka Mighty Mite Pet Edition Canister. The 1934 is one of the most simple and reliable vacuums on the market, but it works very well on carpets and is pretty lightweight. It's the same design used in Eureka's heavy duty Sanitaire line of vacuums, and has been in production for at least 30-40 years with a few small changes here and there. The Mighty Mite would pretty much be useful for anything else, especially the stairs.

Personally, I don't think an upright can clean hard floors nearly as well as a canister. This is due to the higher concentration of suction at the floor nozzle of a canister compared to that of an upright, which has a large brushroll that the air has to move around.

That being set, if you are dead set on an upright, either of those Hoovers should be fine. In fact, I'm 90% sure that those two are the same model, just with different exteriors. The Windtunnel MAX might be a bit newer, but don't quote me on that.

This person always replies with the same canned responses advocating for Shark because Consumer Reports said so. If you want to take Consumer Reports word for something straight up then by all means, you do you.

The bottom line is, there are a lot of machines out there. Many of them are very good for a specific use case, or given a set of variables to compare against.

A lot of it is down to opinions and personal preference.

As for Shark, I own one. Model: NV352 31. It, like many sharks, has plastic clips at important points of connection. These are weight bearing, and are prone to failure. Shark will not sell you these clips even though they are an easily replaceable part. All I needed was the red piece of plastic. In my case, the only option was to buy the entire top hose assembly as seen here: https://www.amazon.com/113FFJ-NAVIGATOR-LIFT-AWAY-VACUUM-HANDLE/dp/B00STQV68M/

Shark and Dyson also make bagless vacuums. Some folks find them to be dirty and disgusting to empty. I am one of those people.

Here's a great video from AvE. He does an excellent job tearing down equipment and providing a visual understanding of how things are built, and what his opinion on their quality is. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NPTzNJMd19A

That said, my Shark cleans the floor about 80% as well as my Miele will. It does not filter nearly as well, but it's passable.

My final opinion, /u/mjwood1, is to do your own research and really find what machine will deliver the things you need and have the problems you want to have. Try them out, get a feel for them. Get your moneys worth.

Otherwise, I'd say this.

If you've got $100ish to spend, buy a Hoover
If you've got $200ish to Spend, Buy a Shark.

More than $200, save some more or buy the above.

If you have $400 or more to spend, consider a high end canister, upright as long as you're willing to take care of it. Sebo, Miele.

If you're in cordless territory, seriously consider instead the Bissell AirRam. Performance is excellent (for what it is) and it sits on the floor. Handle telescopes in and out of the way. All those dyson clones cheap out on what makes a dyson a dyson, the cyclones and the excellent brushless motor. When the handle is in, it's the perfect height for a kid to use (my nephews fight over who gets to use mine). Swivel steering makes it a breeze for getting around and under stuff.

If you don't like it, you can return it! But I bet you'll like it. The battery will seriously clean an entire small house and then some on a single charge. Easy to use!

Perfect! Thanks!

I had no idea about the HomeCare model and my mother just phoned and said she visited our local Miele dealer who offered that model (C1 Homecare) for $600. He also offered her a C3 Softcarpet for $700 which I see retails for $800.

So, here's my question: which model? I understand the C1 has a shorter cord and not as enclosed a filtration system, but is the extra $100 worth the upgrade from the C1 Homecare to the C3 Soft Carpet?

Frankly, I'm very happy with both choices as they seem to be fine options.

What should I be considering?

u/usingtoregister · 2 pointsr/VacuumCleaners

could do a lot worse than this

https://www.amazon.com/Hoover-WindTunnel-Bagless-Upright-UH70120/dp/B01M2YSY3H/ref=sr_1_3?keywords=hoover%2Bwindtunnel&qid=1563139603&s=gateway&sr=8-3&th=1

I'd really recommend the bagged version though and spend a couple minutes of your time tidying up or making sure you don't run over large objects. This will break or clog pretty soon if you're a power user just like most other bagless vacuums around $100. learn how to clean the filters and keep everything clear for maximum suction and to prevent overheating.

u/Cap10323 · 1 pointr/VacuumCleaners

Honestly, Dyson makes the best cordless cleaners on the market IMO. They're the only cordless cleaners I've come across that have suction comparable to a 'real' vacuum. If you want a cordless cleaner, I'd buy a Dyson and skip the knock-offs.

That being said, Corded cleaners are cheaper, have more power, and have a much longer life expectancy (all Lithium Batteries have a finite lifespan).

I'd consider one of Dyson's corded models if you want Bagless, This DC33 is an excellent machine for the price.

If you want bagged, go for something like This Panasonic or This Hoover

Both of the machines I listed are "commercial grade" vacuums, meaning they lack cosmetic frills. But will be practically un-killable in residential use. Like.. Will literally last you 20 years.

EDIT: I forgot to mention noise levels. The Dyson I linked is extremely quiet, as is the Panasonic. The Hoover is slightly noisier, but nothing that's horrible.

Ok, sounds great! This is the one you're referring too, correct?

u/performancereviews · 0 pointsr/VacuumCleaners

If you get a robot with smart navigation I don't see that as a problem. Even my Miele Rx1 which starts up in the middle of the house will go through every doorway down The Long haul into the bedroom run out of battery return to the base station and then continue. That's from a 6 year old robotic vacuum. I would make sure you get one rated for the proper square footage of your house. Here's a link to the robotic vacuum I'm talking about there are definitely better ones out there now. Understand that's affiliate link.

For $1,000 your decision is really about canister or upright... what you're most comfortable using. And getting the most convenience features you can.

I wouldn't give extra credence to pet-specific models. Any Miele will do a good job. I have two cats and a cat tree that gets matted with hair and a sofa that gets covered in hair daily. My Compact C2 does a fine job pulling hair up.

You'll want a Miele STB 101 Mini Handheld Turbobrush or Miele STB 20 Flexible Mini Handheld Turbobrush for furniture. (Neither are really mini... they're big compared to brushes on mass market vacuums.)

You'll need a floor head that is electrically powered (not powered by air flow) for your carpet, which is something to watch for if you're buying a canister model.

My one annoyance with my Compact C2 is the foot lever for raising and lowering the height of the head. It really needs to be a knob because there are 5 settings and if you're on setting 2 and want setting 1, you have to press it 7 times, all the way up to 5 and then back down to 1. It's a horrible design.

I have heard that if you go to a vacuum shop you can get the homecare version with better warranty for the same price. Wait for someone to chime in on that.

u/hideo_james · 1 pointr/VacuumCleaners

While Panasonic's leaving the vacuum market, Amazon still sells their vacuums, namely the MC-UG223 and the MC-UG471. The first one in particular was recommended in the vacuum AMA and by my local vacuum repair shop.

The STB101 comes with the usa version.
