> velcro + cloth Michelin tire bags

https://www.amazon.com/Michelin-80-Tire-Covers-Bags/dp/B00IQILFF2

These made it easy. No nasty looking tire pile, and really easy to move thanks to the handles! Plus they were like $49 at Costco!

I'll be a lot easier in Victoria, than where it snows. However, this was a choice quote from /r/vandwellers that I just read that strikes a chord. I localized it for victoria

>February. Imagine waking up at 3am in that van with diarrhea, 8c inside, -10c outside, and trying to hop out and thru the rain, into the slush on the ground fast enough to make it inside some building's restrooms in time without going into shock? I'd strongly recommend a porta-potty.

The recommended picking up one of these for emergencies https://www.amazon.com/SereneLife-Portable-Toilet-Potty-Seat/dp/B07218B4DQ

Rainshadows is an anthology of short stories about Vancouver Island. I haven't read it, but they can't all be bad.

The Forest Lover is a fictionalization of the life of Emily Carr. I also haven't read it, but it has good reviews.

I have a south facing condo in a poorly insulated building and it gets quite hot. I bought one of these window fans this year and it's been working really well. I put it in my bedroom window and it draws all the cool night air in. I find it very quiet, a low even hum, but I'm used to a fan running so YMMV.

I did buy mine from Amazon, but I've seen them locally in London Drugs and at Walmart.

Used to be you could by a disc repair thing in stores, it would use a type of ceramic to fill in deep scratches and some sort of device to grind down the plastic a tiny bit? Probably Best Buy and Walmart have them.

Edit: Amazon has some that are cheaper than local

Y is a great read with vivid descriptions of Victoria, set in a more current era than some of the other suggestions.

You can buy mattresses at thrift/second-hand stores. You can also get decent foam mattresses relatively inexpensively, especially online. Here is a queen size on amazon.ca for $400 with free shipping. and a thinner one for $300.

They also show up on Used Victoria frequently.

While it's about Haida Gwaii and the logging industry in BC, The Gold Spruce is a fascinating read.

I walk to work every day rain or shine. This so far has been my best umbrella, and it's not super expensive:

The ribs are made of fiberglass, and there is twice as many of them. Hasn't flipped on me yet and even if it did it's very unlikely to break.

Home to Woefield by Susan Juby takes place on Vancouver Island, and while it's not exactly about Vancouver Island per se, it's a fun read.

Also not specific to just edible plants, http://www.amazon.ca/gp/aw/d/1551055325/ref=pd_aw_sim_b_2?pi=SL500_SY115 is one of my fav identification guides & has lots of details on what's edible.

That's why I'm saying amazon.ca

They ship some of their products to Amazon warehouses and they're sold through Amazon so you get free shipping over $25 and 2 day if you have Prime.

Amazon.ca: http://www.amazon.ca/Adjustable-Tilting-Mount-Bracket-10~23inch/dp/B001SXDMN0/

Little more expensive, but still cheaper than shipping

found these

One important thing to consider is that you also need a waterproof music player, as well as the headphones.

Nancy Turner also has some good ones that are about traditional foods: http://www.amazon.com/Plants-Coastal-Peoples-Museum-Handbooks/dp/0772656274 I think you can get copies at the museum if you're looking to find it locally

I second this, I bought a hybrid mattress because I didn't like my partner's all-foam situation - too hot, and awkward for rambunctiousness. I bought this Zinus Hybrid in full size and it's the most comfortable mattress I've ever slept on. I also bought this temperature regulating blanket skeptically, and it's changed my life. I rarely slept through the night because I'd get too hot and be uncomfortable. It's amazing what a difference it makes.
