I use it with 2nd gen Amazon Fire TV boxes and it works great.

Amazon stopped selling it awhile ago, now offering a $70 dongle that should work at least as well, I'd think. There's supposed to be a replacement 'box' model soon with Echo stuff built in, but if you don't want that Echo stuff, I wouldn't wait.

The Apple TV 4K is pretty nice, but at $180+, it's hard to justify over the Fire TV or Roku (though I didn't mention Roku above because the Vue app specifically on it isn't so good. It's apparently getting improved soon)

Ah... Some options include:

  • hire a low-voltage electrician to install a couple home runs of Cat 6 Ethernet for about $100 labor

  • buy a 5.0Ghz Wi-Fi to Ethernet bridge ("extender"), like the Netgear EX6200 for $85 or the EX7000 for $125.

  • use your existing in-wall coaxial cable for Ethernet transmission, using MoCA, like the Actiontec adapter for $120

They're literally paper thin these days. Super non intrusive. Mine just lays on floor next to the TV

I bought this remote so my wife would feel more comfortable when we cut the cord and switched to vue and it’s worked really well. I’d say she had a two day learning curve at most.

Might I recommend the Sideclick remote attachment...
I use it to control my Onkyo receiver and TV. Works flawlessly.

I use this to control my home theater system:
https://www.amazon.com/Logitech-Harmony-All-One-Remote/dp/B01JHQZSHW

Pretty handy, and works with the included remote, or your phone. What’s nice is I can control it from my phone even if I’m somewhere else in the house.

Logitech has a humongous database of devices it will control, but I believe you can check all your devices first before buying on the Logitech web site.

Here is what I am running at home and have not had any issues watching TWD.

Mediacom Cable Internet 100/10

Amazon FireTV (direct connection, not wifi)

NETGEAR N750 Dual Band 4 Port Wi-Fi Gigabit Router

Also, make sure your using the Google DNS servers within your devices.

>Configure your network settings to use the IP addresses 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4 as your DNS servers.

No Shield TV? I use that and it's amazing.

EDIT: I meant Android TV so a Mi Box or perhaps a Nexus player if you can find it would work.

What HDMI cable are you using? Have you tried buying a 4K UHD cable like this?

HDMI Cable 10 FT (4K UHD HDMI 2.0 Ready) - Braided Cord - Ultra High Speed 18Gbps - Gold Plated Connectors - Ethernet & Audio Return - Video 4K 2160p HD 1080p 3D - Xbox PlayStation PS3 PS4 PC Apple TV https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01CRA11IU/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_bi.TAb6TAH9PV

Wonder if something like this would work.

I feel like you should be able to program some kind of remote via BT or IR

Get the pendant. It’s on sale, down $30 from $69. Vue works well on it.

I added this to both of my Amazon remotes. It has 11 programmable buttons that you can use to control your tv (or anything really).

Roku > Ethernet Switch (A small Linksys one) > TP Link Powerline Adaptor plugged into wall outlet. Then, in the room I have my modem/router, I have the other powerline adaptor going to my router.

I know there are better options, but here's the equipment I'm using:

Linksys 8-Port Metallic Gigabit Switch (SE3008) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00F3NUUF4/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_5euTCb077QKPY

TP-Link AV1000 Powerline Ethernet Adapter - Gigabit Port, Plug&Play, Power Saving(TL-PA7010 KIT) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B06WP2ZT5N/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_sfuTCbEX2H3XW

u/BeardedBarney · 1 pointr/Vue

Because the remote is only meant to control the box, not the TV. It's the same way with ATV and Roku. If you want that functionality, you can pick up a SideClick.

That thing is fucking terrible.

I made the mistake of getting one to have my wife use it, and the disconnects and other random crap it does makes it even more annoying.
