Hey, glad you liked it. I used this. Was super cheap and very easy to put in place. You'll need a steady hand and some patience but overall it's not too hard. If you check my other submissions here, you'll see I did the front bumper, side fender badges, and mirrors with this same tape. Just take your time, use wax / grease remover, and clean the area with isopropyl alcohol before laying it down.

Motul 8100 x clean efe 5w30 full synth.

Usually I do 5w40 t6 rotella, but I have an e-tune with brentunning and this is what they recommend so im gonna give it a shot. it makes sense... idk. I always like having that 40 weight makes me feel a little better... I live in Florida it never really gets cold. But then again I always change my oil around 2500-2800 miles... I drive it pretty hard and I start to get that itch when I get close to 3k. IDK if there's any other addicts out there but im sure someone can relate to my story.

Silicone grease over glue imo. Always use it with any o-ring before an install. Pull the o-ring out, coat it with a good layer (I typically wear neoprene gloves, get some on my finger and rub it all around), then place back in, make sure you don't twist the o-ring, and clean up around where there's excess grease. Then once installed check for any additional grease and clean it up.

Definitely install a fumoto valve. No more fishing for drain plugs or burning your hand. Just open the lever and drain into a nice big oil pan. You can even control the flow for taking a small sample into a water bottle. Of course, none of this applies the first time you change the oil yourself to install it haha

Yikes. The top part looks like it might buff out (unless that’s just dirt) but you’re gonna have to touchup the section just above the fog lights. Subaru sells touchup paint, and then you’ll need this special little tool for applying the paint. I’ll see if I can find the YouTube link for how to fix those for ya. That’s so shitty but it happens to the best of us :(

Edit: here’s an amazon link to the tool that was recommended to me for applying the paint: Loew-Cornell Fine Line Painting Pen https://www.amazon.com/dp/B004YZXV8U?ref=yo_pop_ma_swf

That's right, I think people switch over when they start power modding. For stock I would say 5w30 is fine. And yes, the place I had my oil changed used Mobil 1, which I don't prefer. I (and my Subaru) like the Motul much better. I typically Order it off Amazon and I just bring that in to whoever is changing my oil.

Blinker Module - https://www.diodedynamics.com/led-flasher-for-2015-2019-subaru-wrx.html (Needed this because I removed my stock blinker lights. Could have wired in resistors, but this was easy and cheap)

LED Conversion Bulbs - https://www.diodedynamics.com/low-beam-led-headlight-for-2015-2019-subaru-wrx.html (Still waiting on these, so haven't tested them, but they'll be in this Friday)

Harnesses to clean up wiring - https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07QFW8X9Z/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_image_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 (Haven't installed yet, but planning on tomorrow)

Used to seal the hole of the old C Light bulb. Ran the C Light and Halo Harness through here - https://www.homedepot.com/p/Permatex-3-oz-Black-Silicone-Adhesive-Sealant-75150/302775053

Used to hold Halo in - https://www.homedepot.com/p/J-B-Weld-0-47-oz-ClearWeld-50114H/303710929 (There's other ways to do this, but this is what I chose)

I also got the Subispeed harnesses, but I didn't use them because I deleted the stock turn signal bulb.

And I think that's it. Be sure to wear nitrile gloves too to avoid finger prints.

Also take your time. Don't paint the high beam housing unless you have another plan for those like a second projector.

Any other questions or pictures let me know.

(Side note, this is probably not done for me and I'll probably post more if I do more with these. Thinking about changing the bumper cover holes where the turn signals were for instance)

I have had amazing luck with the Sony XAV-AX100. It is a very stable head unit running AA and sounds way better than the stock stereo. It also looks like it could be stock as opposed to the obnoxious ones that have a million green blinky lights. It doesn't support wireless but you can retain steering wheel controls and center console USB, just by using this custom wiring harness. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01D9K3L44/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1

I used this thread for install questions.

Get a small jar of touch up paint and use a touch up pen or super fine touch up brush. ammynyc recommended one of these in a paint chip touch up video: https://www.amazon.com/Loew-Cornell-Fine-Line-Painting-Pen/dp/B004YZXV8U/ref=pd_sbs_201_1?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1&refRID=HE86WYZ4922KYS1SJYY9

I forgot to address your other question... you do lose satellite radio although many found a way around that by simply using Sirius app. One hassle point was definitely finding room for the STARLINK unit that came with my car. They do make bypasses and your front speakers will not work if you take it out all together and do not get a bypass. I just managed to remove the metal brackets and shove it down in the back. I learned this by watching the subispeed android head unit install. To get CarPlay or android auto working, I bought this adapter and works great

I had trouble with this at first as well. I like my phone to my right, but every spot in the middle seemed to block something. I ended up using a magnetic vent clip mount that works very well. I put it on the vent to the left of the steering wheel. It doesn't block anything important, and it holds my huge galaxy note 8 perfectly. It has never fallen off, or moved in the slightest. The way I have it mounted only blocks half the vent. No matter what you have to block something lol. Got used to it on the left, and ended up putting my accessport just below where the trunk release button is. Link to phone mount

Most mid-upper level head units have the ability to plug in a backup camera. I think you'd be hard pressed to find a unit with Android Auto without a backup camera plug. Also, if it has Android Auto, you're guaranteed to have a USB port, as it's required, and all head units with the above mentioned features will most certainly have an aux input as well.

Also, I hear Crutchfield's customer service is top-notch. You should be able to give them a call with more specific questions.

Here are a few well-reviewed units I'm considering for my WRX with all of the features you listed:

Pioneer AVH-4200NEX

Kenwood DDX9903s

Sony XAV-AX100

u/abstractexpert · 2 pointsr/WRX

I just upgraded my 15 STi (w/ Harmon speakers) with the Pioneer 4200NEX. Its on sale for $200 off. I was able to retain my steering wheel controls with another component. Probably your best bet for seeing Android Auto in a WRX until 2020. I've not aware of any OEM updating existing systems to add Android Auto / Apply Carplay after release.

I'm doing mine this weekend. I bought a heat gun off of Amazon for like $18, and did the side WRX chrome badges and replaced them with matte black ones. It worked REALLY well.

What’s great about this one is that it also has a USB port in case you want to charge your phone at the same time but what I’ve found is that surprisingly, the wireless CarPlay connection with this HU is much more stable than the cable connection. CarPlay would crash very often while connected with the cable. Wireless has not crashed yet.

I use this thing I picked up from Amazon. Has Velcro and feet on the bottom so it doesn’t slide. I put my backpack and grocery bags in there every day and it never slides around. Also it’s collapsible so you can tuck it away to fit other items. It even comes with two bungeee cords in case you need those for anything.
