Something like this would be super easy to achieve the look you're wanting without a ton of work - or a huge ding to your budget. I've used this brand for both theatre and drag and they're really tremendous. They hold the style well and I've yet to have one really degrade over time (not that it'd really be a concern in your case).

I've found a few more, but they're considerably longer and would need a cut to get your style but I've saved them in case you're interested. It's really just going to be finding the color you're wanting more than anything.

Thank you ❤️ I'm going to be going from chin length hair to this! I've told some of my coworkers and they're encouraging and supportive so far

Ghost bond is what I use and it is amazing. I suggest buying popsicle sticks off Amazon and applying the glue with that. I ordered these

Popsicle Sticks, (1,000pc), 4-1/2" Length, Food Grade Wooden Ice Cream Sticks, Great Bulk Sticks for Crafts, by Fedmax. (1,000pc) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B075FYT32B/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apap_v6HAGWtiCTfp8

Updos are tricky with wigs unless you want to shell out money for full lace wigs. When I do Victorian hair for historical costuming I would tie my existing up into a tiny bun, then put on a ear to ear front lace piece like this to hide my scalp and finally clip in a fancy bun (similar to this but I made mine with real hair wefts). It's a lot lighter and more comfortable than wearing a full wig, not to mention it's way cheaper. If you don't have bald spots then you probably don't even need the lace front piece because hair stylists can make the top of your hair look quite full.

For example- this one has a lot of reviews. Is under $20 for all variations - however a lot of the pictures don’t show the hairline very well.

I can tell you, you won’t get a super realistic looking hairline for that price range but you can make it work with your own hair or play with the wig hairline to make it look more realistic at least once you get your wig.

Hey!

you said you tried gel headbands?? Never tried those... but have you tried velour ones? They are a-ma-zing! When i received my Jon Renau wig, it wouldnt stay in place, especially the forhead part... it would always go back back back! I thought the wig just didnt fit my ehad or something but the headband really changed the game. I then went on vaccation, beach time and all and the wig wouldnt move an inche :)

Here's the one i found and love

Hey! In addition to the other suggestions for a topper, that seems to be right where a nice thick hairband like this would sit on the days you don't want to go that route!

The Hair Grip https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00DUGZBHI?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share

It comes in various skin tone colors and works great for me! I have alopecia as well, and the glue/tape always came off or got weird as I have naturally oily skin. This stays on all day with minimal shifting.

np.. its a beautiful wig.

here is a guide for silicone spray: https://fabrickind.tumblr.com/post/129443054128 I use this https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0019LV3GO/ it totally works but you need to leave your wig alone for about 2 days or so

Definitely get a wig head if you don't have one already. It makes life wonderful for styling

As a rule of thumb if they don't show the whole wig on the mannequin, don't trust it. Bonus if they show someone putting on the wig and slaying it.
