Why not just spray coat the parts with some type of clear coating to keep the look of everything? Would something like this work to keep the 'look' including the sticker in place as well as the shellac chips as they are? I'm not too knowledgeable on the paint finishing side of life.

Alright so I always loved the way the old Russian furniture looked so I tried to emulate that redness. After doing some research I found a Rit dye method ok great But… the formula the they have now will no longer dissolve in acetone they changed it in 2012.

I was not about to pay $30 for some of the old formula. So I decided to take a risk and use this https://www.amazon.com/Rit-Dye-Liquid-8-Ounce-Scarlet/dp/B00AQ72AVO/ref=sr_1_1?keywords=rit+scarlett&qid=1564018820&s=gateway&sr=8-1 it is water based so I had no idea if it would work. I tried mixing it with the polyurethane, but it was no good. So, what I instead did was use it as a stain.

Once I color matched all of the wood with some walnut stain so that they were all relatively the same shade I brushed the dye on and let it sit for 5 min the wiped the extra off. I did this twice and it looked quite red but after letting it dry it dulled to a perfect color it then did 3 coats of polyurethane over it and there you have it.

Yes, but I can buy that Tapco, and use the remaining $8 on a regular, more practical $2 ( https://www.amazon.com/Giftguys-Credit-Bottle-Polished-Stainless/dp/B00D5DST0C/ref=sr_1_1?s=home-garden&ie=UTF8&qid=1481697759&sr=1-1&keywords=bottle%2Bopener&th=1 ) bottle opener, and still have enough for a beer at a bar and couple bucks to tip the bartender.
And Yes, I have milled solid steel before, not that that would make me any more or less of an authority here.

If you dont have a gun case you should probably buy one if thats what you are talking about.

Id suggest a Plano 42in if your a cheap bastid: http://www.amazon.com/Plano-Weather-Tactical-Case-42-Inch/dp/B00E2217I6/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1462998489&sr=8-1&keywords=plano+42

or a Pelican 1750 if you like your cases with caviar: http://www.amazon.com/PELICAN-1750-000-110-Long-Rifle-Case/dp/B000AOMA1S/ref=sr_1_1?s=sporting-goods&ie=UTF8&qid=1462998488&sr=1-1&keywords=pelican+1750

The only gun upgrade you should do right now is a sling, grab a romy sling off k-var, and learn how to use it. Slings are awesome.

I wrap different colored self-sticking bandage wrap around the last inch and a half of my mags to differentiate my ammo. I cover the end plate completely, and it stays on pretty well and is very grippy and easy and pull out of pouches. I can also remove and reuse it (to a decent extent) for something else if I have to.

Also, what kind of rig is that?

When I refinished my stock that was poop I just used Citristrip and then I wanted a darker wood so I used a stain conditioner then stain, followed with shellac I mixed up from Shellac.net. Lightly sanded at the beginning just to knock down a rough edge.

Another rifle got the same treatment but ended up using Linspeed for that one since it was a Yugo Mauser. Didn't like how shiny it was so for the last coat I knocked down the shine with some 0000 Synthetic Steel Wool, really happy with how that came out.

I found it here on Amazon! They also sell similar mugs but with different firearms here. Some neat stuff.

Thanks for coming back and answering about the cleaning kits. Does this one have the notch for the handguard and the better punch?

http://www.amazon.com/Military-SKS-Original-Buttstock-Cleaning/dp/B005STMIQW/ref=cm_cr_pr_product_top

If it's not the better version, do you have a reliable source for these kits?

u/SenorPierre · 2 pointsr/ak47

I wouldn't. they make safety glasses out of a certain plastic for a reason. I just picked up a 12 pack of tinted safety glasses on Amazon and wear them as sunglasses, plus they're ANSI certified.

edit to add link.

these, to be specific.

I have [this] (https://www.amazon.com/Explorer-Tactical-Carrying-Military-Backpack/dp/B01M7ME25Q/ref=pd_sim_200_3?_encoding=UTF8) and I love it. Though I covered it in mag pouches and that makes it hard for even a vepr lift squad member to pick up.

The one he has is a TekMat, the one on Amazon is not. Get a TekMat, if you can, they're really nice. https://www.amazon.com/TekMat-Cleaning-Waterproof-Instructions-Armorers/dp/B003JOLCAG

i just found this which recommends this. For only $8 I might as well give it a shot.

It's not really. It takes about 5 minutes with a dremel, using a thin grinding stone tip. Just grind a bit, then test-fit the standard mag for fitment. You can get it to the point where it will still accept the Vepr magazine in addition to the standard/surplus magazines.

Here's a brief video detailing the process.

Arguably the bullet guide installation is more difficult, since you have to be very careful while drilling and tapping. If you botch the magazine catch, you can always install an aftermarket upgrade, but you won't be able to easily repair a botched hole in your receiver.

Cold blue it. Real easy to apply and keeps that old metal look.

My son refinished his 1911 with that stuff. Check it out on this post

Speaking of bayonets, I just got one of these: https://www.amazon.com/Romanian-AK47-Bayonet-1st-Pattern/dp/B00CSWFHVA

It smells of cosmoline and is in old but unissued shape (not sharpened, has oil on it). Would recommend.

I see Atlantic Firearms has bayonets too, those are probably more legit.

I don’t think the length matters provided that it will fit in a .30 caliber barrel and it’s long enough to get down a 16” barrel as they all are. This is what I’m using:
