It is an epidemic now and the slightest deviation from agreed upon or advertised terms such as shipping is enough to scare anyone away nowadays just because fraud is such a problem. Please come through with your end of the bargain without anymore deviations and you will have a customer for life and all forgotten. I would love to have a Japanese seller I can trust.

I totally understand your reaction. We try to explain how we work as a proxy service best we can, but it's not so easy sometimes. Even though we don't determine the domestic shipping prices, we have a responsibility to let our customers clearly know what's going on. I think you ordered the Amiibo at a time when the Amazon marketplace was still figuring out their pricing, and you got caught up in it. It looks like the price for these Amiibo have evened out on Amazon. Your instincts are probably right. If you see a price too good to be true, even on Amazon, it probably is. Since it sounds like you're gonna open them, buying Japan imports from Amazon is your best solution in most cases. Robin and Lucina are impossible to find in US stores, but their Japan imports on Amazon are $17.56 and $18.00 respectively. Ike was restocked in GameStop, so you could call a few local GameStops and see if any have one left. Otherwise, Japan import on him is $15.11. Marth would be cheapest to get from Best Buy. If any local ones have him left, you can get him in-store to save the shipping cost, but he's still available online at MSRP if you don't have a Best Buy nearby. Shulk is an odd one... he was restocked at GameStop, Best Buy, and Toys R Us. You can use the in-store locator to find one in a nearby GameStop or Best Buy, you can call Toys R Us and ask if they have any left (I can't find his page on their site anymore), or in a worst case situation a Japan import of Shulk is $13.99 on Amazon (TRU's MSRP). Remember that if you have Amazon Prime, all the prices I listed are Prime eligible. Otherwise, $35 purchases get free shipping (so Robin + Lucina off of Amazon would net you free shipping). Check out Apoxie Fixit Sculpt for modding, it's a two compound formula that dries 4 hours after being mixed, which gives you plenty of time to work with it. It's what I use, I love it. Fun fact: it smells like cooked shrimp before it hardens. Strangely pleasant aroma :P.


There's also this green stuff called... Green Stuff (clever name), haven't used it myself but it looks pretty good from what I've seen. I'd ditch the baking clay.


My Golden Frieza Mewtwo was almost completely scrapped cuz the Montana Gold spray paint I originally used was garbage. If I could salvage that abortion (seriously, I wish I took pictures to show how F'd it was), you can totally save yours, not to say it even looks bad, just the base. Everything else looks salvageable, even the Yoshi, dunk him in acetone & go to town with a million q-tips.

Amazon is selling the standard edition new for $19.33, you'd be lucky to get $4 for a trade-in, at that point you might as well just keep it.

Amazon Warehouse Deals is probably the best you can do for a new copy. Some of them are listed as used, very good condition, factory sealed. In some cases the box is slightly damaged, others near perfect condition, depends on what you wanna spend.


I paid like $37 including tax for mine in perfect condition, still kinda regret spending that much mainly for an amiibo.

Someone stated that they preordered an amiibo that they believed to be Female Corrin at GameStop about a week ago. There wasn't a name to the amiibo on their receipt, but they seemed sure that it was Female Corrin, but that was before we found out we were getting two of Cloud and Bayonetta.

There's no way that Target or TRU would get a Bayonetta figure (imo), so Best Buy or Gamestop seems likely. Corrin could go anywhere, but I think that placing Cloud or Bayonetta in stores like GS/BB would possibly get fans of the series to pick them up, even if they don't have a Nintendo console.

EDIT: Actually, it looks like Cloud (or Female Corrin?) may be an Amazon exclusive

The thing is, anyone is able to do this. Most of the rare amiibo I've acquired I've gotten from just watching online retailers or by keeping an eye on stock trackers and heading over when they're in stock.

Plus, this is significant less relevant than 10-20 years ago, where I would be more inclined to agree with you. Now anyone with a bit of persistence can just sit at home and buy them. Since nearly every online retailer has limited orders to 2-3 of any given amiibo, this levels the playing field significantly.

Personally, and this is just conjecture because I haven't started painting my miibos yet, but I'd just do what I do for miniatures. Get some acrylics, thin them to the consistency of skim milk, put on a ton of coats. With regard to sculpting hit up a hobby shop and ask for "Green Stuff."

Don't use polymer clay. It melts plastics and I wouldn't want to test it on these. I believe they're vinyls but I don't know how it interacts.

If you're shy on painting head on over to /r/minipainting and soak up some knowledge. The features on the amiibos are larger but the techniques should carry over.
