I have one of those powerbank for your smartphone that's also a jumpstarter. Like one of these. It's been a good investment I would say. Just attach it to your car battery while watching the movie.

Amazon has those.

I picked up a set of 5 reusable bags off Amazon that fold up pretty small so you can keep one or two in your backpack at all times. It was maybe $10 or so.

> the coldest month last year cost me close to $400.

> I've also gone around sealing up cracks in the year I've lived here

If you don't have one of these yet, I highly recommend it. Super cheap and you can pinpoint exactly where the hot/cold spots are. You'll probably find quite a bit around the windows and floorboards, but if you've got single-pane windows that aren't covered there's likely a massive amount passing right through.

Further, it doesn't make sense for #9 to have the option, "Not applicable – I do not currently have a pet" when the only options for #4 ("Do you own a cat or dog (or both)?") are limited to "cat", "dog", and "both". No "Neither". #6 ("If you do own a cat or dog, are they currently licensed through Multnomah County?") has the options "Yes", "No", and "Unsure". No "Not applicable". So question 9 takes into account survey takers who don't have a pet, while questions 4 and 6 leave them without valid options.

Additionally, #1 asks if you live in Multnomah County, but #2 ("How long have you lived in Multnomah County?") assumes that you do. No "Not applicable". Someone who answered "No" in the first question could technically put "Less than a year" for the second question, but that's going to make the results misleading.

Finally #11 ("Which one of the following reasons would most encourage you to license your pets?") has the option "Other (please fill in)", but I don't see anywhere to write in an answer.

The survey does go through without all the questions answered, so it's not necessary to answer falsely in order to submit... but it's still a pretty bad survey. Please also pass on my anonymous internet gripes. And maybe recommend he or she get this book: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00KBH5U8Y

I'm reading this one right now:

Here's one that looks good, too:

I have another Oregon guide book from a local shop here. It covers all regions of OR, with extra chapters and detail on Portland area.

You need to recalibrate your settings pretty frequently they aren't expensive thats why people usually buy them.

Most people don't buy sub $100 devices and rent them out. It just doesn't make much sense.

With eDP connecting a laptop screen to a regular PC is a little easier than it used to be but, unless you can find an adapter kit for a specific panel you want to use (not sure how common this is), it's still not super simple. Someone on hackaday made one you can order and assemble yourself for one of the apple displays.

Personally I'd be looking at something like this portable monitor which can already take a regular HDMI cable.

I inflate it on site because it's big and won't fit into the back of my vehicle. The dimensions are in the link. I plan to get a small air compressor that plugs into my car because inflating it by hand takes a little while.

So that's kind of an awesome story. If this works I'd hang it on the wall as a conversation piece..

If you travel to new cities frequently grab 2 battery packs. One that can hold 3-5 charges, like a 22000mAh then grab a 2nd more compact one you can fit in your pocket like an 8-12k. Keep the big one in your backpack charging the little one when you have it on you, keep it back at the airbnb charging when you're not carrying your pack, and charge both when you get to the airbnb/hotel.

Carry the little one around with you when you're just out exploring.

My last 2 week, 1000 mile hike/trip had me recharge my big battery pack one time. Being in a new city and not able to find your way or yell at your airbnb that you'll be late sucks. Also mine lasted all that time and I was wandering around downtown seattle until 2am for almost a week before I even went to ONP.

Haven't been to Portland yet, hence how I found this thread. Going to hit there and Denver in the next few weeks. Seattle wasn't my cup of tea for relocating, I loved Olympia and a few coastal towns though.

edit: Also bring 3x the amount of usb-c/thunderbolt/usb cables you'll think you need.

This. I’ve got horrible allergies to all sorts of mold and pollen and such and getting the right filters and battling indoor humidity have been the two key factors to make it livable.

Make sure they are really good filters, I’ve been using these ones since moving here: Filtrete Healthy Living Elite Allergen Reduction https://www.amazon.com/dp/B005F5D5WK

And clean the dehumidifiers regularly, or else they become mold generators! I’ve also been using damp rid chemical dehumidifiers in my entry closet and garage. (that last I suspect is a losing battle.)

Note that you may also want to chat with a Doctor up here about what you are using if it doesn’t work well. What I used in AZ did not work in MN... what I switched to there didn’t quite work here so I’ve had to make some tweaks every time I’ve moved. Biggest problem I’ve found with that is that the meth heads have made it illegal to buy actual pseudoephedrine here, so Sudafed in Oregon is made with phenylephrine instead. Sure you can buy it OTC without signing into the feds log book... but it doesn’t work at all for some folks (me) or as well for others. YMMV.

I keep a lookout on Amazon for this kind because it's unscented. But their prices fluctuate and you can find larger sizes for that price range if you watch.

what you really want is this:

My Brazilian wife makes it a lot and is a preferred brand in Brasil.
