Great adaptation. Another adaptation id like to see get done is Isabel Allende's The Japanese Lover: A Novel https://www.amazon.com/dp/1501116975/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_965mxb0TR7W5G

Though if you read it, you realize it should have just been titled The American Lover because he is actually more American than the protagonist.

I had the same issues in highschool/college and still have scars from it, but it didn't start clearing up until I STOPPED using the acne cleansers with peroxide or alcohol. They ended up being wayy too harsh on my skin. I started using a korean face cleaner from [Innisfree] (https://www.amazon.com/dp/B004XY6IPK/ref=cm_sw_em_r_mt_dp_U_mxf5CbRC03S75) (pretty cheap too) that was much easier on my face and just a light moisturizer that's not too oily like from Cerave if I use it at all. Good luck bro.

Edit: Goddammit lol https://smile.amazon.com/Innisfree-Jeju-Volcanic-Cleansing-Ounce/dp/B006XAG1U4/ref=sr_1_4?keywords=innisfree&qid=1558646932&s=gateway&sr=8-4 here's the right link hahaha

> gay asians also exist

Gay Asians do exist - and they also suffer negatively from the emasculation and mal/mis-representation of Asian men just as straight Asian men do.

https://www.amazon.com/View-Bottom-Masculinity-Representation-Modernities/dp/0822356848

Gay Asian men are fetishized just as Asian women are, and they also feel the effects of Asian male emasculation in the media - because they're still Asian men.

Maybe you are trying to be inclusive with these comments, but I think you are effectively creating even more divisions by implying that gay Asian men don't have a view on the issue, or are positively affected where straight Asian men are negatively affected. From what I have read, this isn't always the case. There is definitely space to be more inclusive but this is not the way to do it.

Since we're talking about language learning, I wanna plug the Pleco app. The dictionary is priceless. The paid add-ons are worth their weight in gold. Also has Cantonese support. Amazing app. Truly.

If you think characters are daunting, check out remembering the hanzi which is made by someone who learned Japanese as a second language and came up with a way to memorize the characters and stroke orders with minimal effort. He made the same system work for Chinese and well.

Kinda sounds like me as an Asian dude but only because I got burned by my Chinatown community, if not for my Borderline Personality Mother/Narcissistic Personality Father (like many TRP fellas complaining about haven fallen victim with the Achilles’ Heel for “Cluster-B” Personality Disorders girls...therefore becoming all-encompassing misogynistic) doing the BPD/NPD ‘V-Spot’ Winnocott True/False Self dance—sandwiching me with their enmeshed-role-reversal-parentification as an only child where I became psychotic.

If only my parents could read The Search for The True Self by James F. Masterson—a simple layman entry that triumphs any ‘5 Love Language in Loving Each Other’ type of garbage psuedo-self-help/pop-psychology/self-development books by X English con artist that are reappropriated by PUAs. Probably would help many other cucks from not having to read and follow empty platitudes and conjured artificial phoniness of PUA instruction and utilizing false cognitive-behavioral “tips and tricks” from said books too.

I’d make /r/asianparentstories proud..but I got over most of it with non-CBT insight-oriented psychoanalytic psychotherapy and intense introspection with now discontinued adjunctive psychiatric medication (Ablify, Depakote, plus Cogentin for auxiliary anti-Parkinsonism).

I have no problems with most of my ethnic identity just that sometimes insecure Asian bros try to sabotage, undermine, cockblock me and everyone patronizes thinking I’m a legit autist retard because I dropped out of school...and as I’ve lamented to my counselor the other day on the topic of romance, I probably didn’t have much emotional availability or attraction to Asian chicks because of this, if at all. But I think I’m beginning to find light at the end of the tunnel? Unfortunately there are more Whites here than Asian Mecca’s elsewhere though with a larger degree of separation..

The Narcissistic / Borderline Couple is an essential text for every marital therapist, offering an improved understanding of marital pathology within the framework of our changing world.”

‘Traumatic bonding’ awefully sounds like our inter-Asian community relations interwoven with introspective identity politics to scapegoat our inner childhood torments of an overbearing mother and pain of an emotionally unavailable scolding father, while we all confide pseudo-anonymous to soul-search aka find ways to amend our collective Erik Erickson arrested identities development issues, if not for the Mahler ‘seperation-individuation’ or Bowlby insecure disorganized attachments for truly healthy intimate bond and healthy relationships.

Ever consider carrying pepper spray? Check your state's laws. In mine it's legal to carry it concealed in your pocket/purse/backpack/whatever. And there's stuff with great range that can be effective against groups, like this: SABRE 3-IN-1 Pepper Spray

Basketball wasn't dominated by Jews in any time in it's conception. Today the league is 90 percent black and it's no coincidence why that is the case. It's the same case with the NFL. To say it's culture means to say you have an agenda to keep the egalitarian view that everyone is equal which is not the case. I've seen real life observation and read books that refute that all groups are the same.

It would do well for Asian men to be represented in those sports if they live in America, because those are the most popular sports in the country. Being in an elite Division 1 college football team gets you pussy for example. It's gets you the sorority white pussy that most guys here really want. Ideally Asian men specifically should stop viewing non-Asian men as role models in sports, as it does imprint their subconscious that these groups are superior.

Asians are extremely restrained from cultural aspects which have resulted in physical restraints in specific sports. So the problem in theory can be solved in Asia by having a better diet spread across the distribution curve, a better sports culture, and a eugenic implementation of some sort to achieve individuals who could possibly be genetic freaks. The problem is money and the sjw's from it happening. Essentially you would have to breed and farm people to be in those positions in order for Asians to be competitive. Though in the end I'm just talking ideas because that is suppressed from economic and political matters.

Some years back, there was also an Asian guy who spent two years bicycling around South America, a risky trek not for the faint of heart. He wrote an interesting book about his experiences. Also talked about how on his journey he came across Asian diaspora communities and their descendants (many were from Asian male lineage with locals), and how they were much better received and integrated into the culture compared to their counterparts living in Anglo countries.

I believe it was in this book: https://www.amazon.com/dp/1462513115/

I don't believe the country in question was Jamaica, but I can't recall the specific nation -- Guiana perhaps? Or it may have been a Pacific Island with a large black population like Tonga? Either way, the point is that playing divide-and-conquer of two majority groups is a worthwhile strategy.

u/Gloriustodorius · 6 pointsr/aznidentity

Uh good message, bad example. The Sikhs identity was at least partially constucted by the colonial British through the military.

This was done in order to encourage tribalism and undermine the development of a truly pan-Indian identity. As such we really shouldn't be following in the footsteps of the Sikhs, who at this point have had their culture too tainted by colonial powers to recognise their own indigineous culture from the British constructed parts

There's a really good book explaning this exact topic I'll send a link to it once I find it.

"A Family Affair: The Political Economy of Media Ownership in the Republic of Korea (1998-2012)"

Chunhyo Kim, Southern Illinois University Carbondale. This is someone's PhD thesis.

> This dissertation investigates the nature of Korean media giants among members of Asian media conglomerates in the era of media marketization. Since the 1980s, each state in Asia has adopted neoliberal media laws and policies that have made its media systems more market-driven. This neoliberal media reform led to the restructuring of media systems from state-controlled systems to profit-oriented ones and facilitating the emergence of Asian media conglomerates. However, scholarship on the nature of Asian media giants has been sparse in critical media studies. Thus, I conduct a case study to explore the nature of Asian media giants with a focus on the interplay between media ownership and media markets in order to determine the major beneficiaries of Asian media marketization.

> I focus on the three Korean media conglomerates of Samsung, CJ and JoongAng Ilbo groups during the period from 1998 to 2012 when the Korean state applied the neoliberal media mode to the Korean media systems.

> Utilizing the theoretical approach of political economy of communication, I examine three points:

>(1) the relationship between the era of neoliberal media and the structures of four media markets (e.g., advertising, daily newspaper, cable television and film);

> (2) the interconnections among media expansions, media ownership and informal ties (e.g., blood and marriage ties); and

> (3) the relationship between the changed structures of those four media markets and corporate censorship of the three chaebol groups.

> To address these questions, I used both institutional and corporate profiling techniques and then analyzed both governmental and secondary documents, including those covering structures of media markets, media ownership, boards of directors, media expansions and emergent issues in the information and entertainment markets.

> Consequently, my analysis finds that neoliberal media laws and policies led to forming centralized market structures controlled by chaebol groups with connections to Western media conglomerates and/or foreign capital. Also, I find that the Lee family members used family connections to expand their media businesses and control multiple media operations, thereby becoming the media emperor in Korea. Finally, my analysis shows that a media-oriented ideology has rarely guaranteed free competition among market players but has instead led to increasing the market polarization between a few market controllers and many independent media companies. In other words, my study indicates that the neoliberal media mode allowed family capitalists in Korea with foreign capital to control the structures of media markets.

---

The analysis starts after cold war, but the white American control of Korean media via chaebol and/or right wing dictator compradors was definitely much worse during the cold war.

You can't read her full thesis, but she turned this research into a book later.
