I went with an astro mixamp and paired it with a Sennheiser 558hd headset. It came out to about $150 during a sale. If you can afford it, it's best to get an excellent stereo headset and pair it with an amp to give you virtual surround. I ended up getting a sennheiser game one headset later to have a built in mic. This headset is very comfortable and is open back. If you prefer closed back, there is the game zero.

If your budget is firm and you can deal with wireless, the sony gold and platinum headsets are actually pretty good. The difference being the golds have 40mm drivers and the Platinum has 50mm drivers plus 3d sound capability.

Regarding your Apple earbuds, Apple cables are not standard and are not guaranteed to work.

Since you play on PS4 you can use one of these plugged into your controller.

Plug the headphones in one side and the mic in the other.

For microphones, any 3.5mm mic will work. I use one of these because the mic attaches to the headphones.

But you can use any mic that has a 3.5mm jack. The zalman clip on mic is pretty common.

This will get you pretty good audio, however if you want to step it up a notch you can buy an astro mixamp.

That one works for PS4, PC, and is very popular. You would then plug your headphones and mic into the mixamp and not use the adapter linked at the top. This will also add in virtualized surround sound which is really good.

this is what everyone should be playing on. i will play slower paced or non competative games on my big tv but anything FPS and fast paced, has to be the monitor. that monitor specifically, picture is amazing and its so cheap. 24" is perfect.

There is the monitor that I use with my PS4. It is a BenQ and features many extras besides a 1ms grey-to-grey response time. It's $209 so, not expensive.

My favorite features with my monitor:

FPS Mode, you obviously select this for Black Ops 3. It enables the first-person shooter features within the options.

Black Equalizer, which brightens dark areas without washing out the overall brightness. Making it easier to see players hiding in corners.

Instant Mode, this automatically turns on with FPS Mode. Does what it sounds like it should.

Low Blue Light, is like wearing a pair of Gunners. Helps reduce eye strain.

AMA, I forget what this stands for but I know for a fact that you want it set to High and not Premium.

HDMI RGB PC Range, make sure you change this from RGB(16-235) to RGB(0-255) no matter what monitor you decide to get. And on your PS4 Sound and Screen settings, within the Video Output Settings, change your RGB Range to Full! This will give you more colors to work with, resulting in a better overall picture.

HDMI Out, yes it has an output HDMI port for streaming. One less cable, and less delay. Cool, right?

You can use them on both sticks if you want, but I only use one on my right stick. That's the PS4 ones btw. If you have an xbox 1, make sure you get those.

It will take some time to get used to, but once you adapt, you'll never go back. They also allow you to bump your sensitivity up a bit which is helpful for snap aiming. I play at 7 sensitivity.

Picked it up last week and Extinction mode is definitely good fun.

I've heard the Logitech G930 is pretty good. It's a bit more than your $60 budget though, and I would definitely read the reviews about it (I've heard it has an issue with disconnecting sometimes). There's a wired version (The G35) that might be less prone to those issues.

I personally use the Wireless Gold from Sony though, haven't had much issue with it.

this is the headset i have. if you have the first gen xbone controller you will need an adapter but if you have one of the newer ones with a 3.5 mm jack then all you need is a splitter for it. ive had mine for about 6 months now and havent had a single problem and the sound is awesome.

I didnt spend 300. I bought scuf extended domed sticks ($13) and scuf grips and trigger stops ($25) and installed them on my controller that came with the console. ($0). So $28 for a better preforming controller (In my mind at least). Debating on wether or not to get paddles for around $50 and installing them. $78 for a homemade Scuf is a lot better than 300 IMO.

Here try this..... Much cheaper alternative and offers a lot of the perks of a scuf... If you would like to go even further with the controller, scuf does a package which I forgot the name that comes with back grip plates with adjustable trigger stops...

these are some reasonably priced solid headphones. Probably better than way more expensive Bose or Beats models.

Get these with a V-moda boom mic. It's a much better setup than using a gaming headset.

When playing on PC, i use the ASUS ROG 27 inch 1440p, 144hz, 1ms response monitor, and my ps4 is hooked up to my 55 inch samsung.

Obviously you don't need a $800 1440p gaming monitor, but the asus 1080p 144hz monitor is famous for its performance. I use one as my secondary monitor and couldnt be happier.
