I think you are worried about lightning protection? I wouldn't worry about it on a direct buried cable, but if you want to be safe get this

https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B000BKUSS8/ref=mp_s_a_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1503629636&sr=8-2&pi=AC_SX236_SY340_QL65&keywords=cat+6+lightning+protection&dpPl=1&dpID=31T2csu01XL&ref=plSrch

And if it were me, I wouldn't run 5 cables from your switch direct buried. I would run 2 and use 1 (the 2nd is just a backup) and connect to another switch in the other room. This gives you flexibility to do whatever you want in the new place. Your ISP is probably feeding you 50-80 megs or so? You can easily cover the whole pipe with a single 100 meg cable. You don't need to homerun al your drops

Looks like you are 1. Maybe in Europe, 2. Is that plumbing in the lower wall? Maybe you dont want to cut into the wall. Fastest and easiest thing is this http://smile.amazon.com/Wiremold-C30LG-Screen-Cover-White/dp/B000NO9G8A/ref=sr_1_6?ie=UTF8&qid=1462155807&sr=8-6&keywords=wiremold
or something similar. Its paintable also so paint it and it'll look great. Make sure you stick it up perpendicular with the TV and parallel with the door trim or it will look like balls.

Also, as a further question (posting in the comments because its kind of unrelated to the actual sub here, but I figure someone might be know or even might know a better place to post this), I can never seem to get any good sound out of the back 2 speakers. Like, ALMOST non-existent, but if youre very close you can hear them. I'm using these speakers on this receiver if that makes any difference.

Thanks but I'm in the US. I knew it was some kind of USB-b but looking at pictures of the different variants I still couldn't find it. It's most definitely not common. I have a ton of computer equipment / parts and not a single one of those. I work in IT and most of my hobbies are computer-related and I've seen it maybe once a few years back on a camera like you said.

I think I found it though; referred to as "8-pin Mini USB-b". I can get it on Amazon Prime for less than $5.

Hi looks like you need this https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07CXQ37RJ/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_awdb_t1_-OpoDbAMYKWM0

By the way I’m pretty sure that your soundbar have hdmi.
Since hdmi can decode more audio protocols would be better stick with hdmi https://www.cnet.com/news/hdmi-vs-optical-which-digital-audio-connection-to-use/

This is a tough one because you have a glass desktop. I think the best option would be cable raceway. You can get a kit something like this. Here is a better explanation of what it actually is.

Keep the visible bundle relatively tight and the pathway deliberate. You would probably have to find a way to lengthen the cables to make this work.

Doing a job for <Major Department Store in every Mall> we used something like these: https://www.amazon.com/Mr-Label-Self-Laminating-Around-Cable-Labels/dp/B078XR72Y7

They are designed to use with a printer, but you can do marker. They're about 4"x2" with a white bit in the middle. They wrap around for custom fit and cover the written part of the label with the clear portion of the label.

So, conclusions, -0.5 for wanting to use a full-size printer, +1 for adhesion, +1 for protecting label surface.

That's beautiful Clark. You should be a professional phone man. Just need some of these and you'll be on your way to makeing my life a living hell. Someday, you might be able to create a masterpiece like this... all you have to do is try hard and believe in yourself!!

Brocade 6910 should suit your needs just right. You'll get 11 open ports on every floor. They cost around $1.700 each.

You'll need 4 of them. And then you'll need an sfp connector for each floor-switch and 3 sfp for the one in the basement. Each sfp costs about $50-90 but they can be more expensive also.

1000ft of cable costs around $2-300. But I'm sure you can get smaller boxes cheaper.

And then you'll need connectors and someone to do the job of getting the connectors on the cable. That's not something you can do yourself, but a guy can easy do it in a couple of hours or less.

With this solution you'll get a very fast and reliable network. You can later upgrade to 10Gb/s.

To get the video from that to your Mac you'll need a standard 3.5mm to dual RCA cable, ideally one like this. But you can probably use any old RCA audio cable sitting around and test it on a TV, with a 50% chance if guessing which side is video and which is audio on the first shot. It will be monaural, not stereo, so I think you use the Left audio input on the TV.

Then it's a simple video signal we can capture. What device works well with Mac is a question I'm not really qualified to answer, but I have a few ideas you can start with:

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B06X42H9VZ

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B007QCIBX8

Also if you are doing this as a one time conversion and don't need the capability going forward, Costco does VHS to DVD conversion for a decent price, but you have to be a member. After that DVD to a video file it pretty trivial on any machine with an optical drive.

I like this Chatsworth model.

Available on Amazon for under $60.

They have a big slot in the back to stuff any excess cable (within reason) to keep things looking nice and clean.

u/MollyPopGirl · 1 pointr/cableadvice

I think they're just saying the clips easily separate the cables in a neat manner.

You could also get something like this

u/paulgraz · 2 pointsr/cableadvice

If you dont want a full blown floor standing rack, there are other options that would neaten this up.

You could wall mount a couple patch panels right next to that hole, like this: https://smile.amazon.com/dp/B00NUXCHE6/ref=cm_sw_r_tw_dp_N9ADxb573TN78

Or maybe a small wall mounted rack, just for your network (switch and patch panel), kinda like this:

Wow. Thanks.

I've done a little work up there before. When I first moved in I discovered that some of the coaxial outlets in the house didn't actually work. After a little investigation I found out that the line dropped into the den wasn't actually connected to the line coming in to the house at all. It ran up the wall into the attic, took a lazy turn away from the line into the house, then went down into the master bedroom. Literally connected to nothing.

I've got a spool of fish tape I was going to use for feeding the wire. I think I know how to do most of it, what I'm not familiar with is how to set things up so I can connect the coaxial to the modem, the modem to the router, and then a line from the modem into the wall, through the attic, and down another wall to an outlet. I think you just nudged me in the right direction, though:

Something like this wall plate?

If I have that in the master bedroom and connect the coaxial to the back, then connect the modem to that, that should be my signal in. Then connect the modem to the router, and another cat5e/6 cable out of the router and into the ethernet jack on that plate I just linked. Have the back side of that connected to additional cat5e/6 and run that up through the attic, down the wall of the living room to another wall outlet...

I guess that's the part I'm confused about. I need one cat5e/6 outlet that takes a signal in from the router and another that transmits out to plug into the the console or whatever in the living room.

Interesting. Not sure I'll ever use it unless I modify it to hold electrical tape which is the plan. Not sure how that will be accomplished but I'll get there. I'm thinking something like this. somehow attached to that hole. Or maybe I'll even put a small hole in the bottom of it and attached the electrical tape thong through there.¯\_(ツ)_/¯

if its a join for repair you should use something like this

https://www.amazon.com/JUNCTION-INLINE-COUPLER-TERMINAL-SOCKET/dp/B00BMR0D9S

edit: not that one its stupid expensive, but one like it more in the $5 range will work fine.

https://www.amazon.com/Cable-Matters-DisplayPort-Adapter-Resolution/dp/B00JQORLCG

You'd need something like this and a matching displayport to mini displayport cable to connect.
